Fast Five Friday: Romantic Suspense

by | Feb 23, 2024 | Fast Five Friday | 10 comments

Hey beautiful people. So Fast Five Friday is a weekly meme I will be hosting every Friday. Where just a handful of recommendations based on a certain subgenre or theme will be shared. These are just quick and my top recs for whatever topic we are doing. And this is a great way to share some quick recommendations to kick off the weekend. Feel free to comment and let me know your recommendations and what you think of the books I am recommending.

The topic for today is books with the sub genre of Romantic Suspense. I actually adore this sub genre. Although I do agree that sometimes that romance aspects gets forgotten for the suspense plot. But wanted to share some of my top recommendations to you.

At Wolf Ranch by Jennifer Ryan I absolutely adore anything this author writes, but most especially her emotionally damaged characters, protective green flag heroes, and the suspense plots are just the right touch! If you like Catherine Cowles, this author needs to be on your TBR.

Blue Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas this is really good for romantic suspense. I know some might not expect this author to write suspense, but this one definitely is one. It features an abusive ex coming after the heroine and Hardy Cates is so protective. If you aren’t a historical fan but want to try out the magic of Kleypas, her contemporaries are a GREAT way to go.

Mackenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard This features a native american descent hero, who is a single father and a heroine who is the son’s teacher and so protective of the hero and his son and its adorbs. Be mindful that this book was written in the 90’s and might have some language that can make you uncomfortable as its not very politically correct but has such a beautiful message.

Brutalize Me by Michelle Heard if you love dark romance, I can’t recommen this one enough. Especially if you want to see more softer heroines. This heroine has had a troubling childhood and is being forced into a abusive marriage. The suspense notes are so STRONG and its a delight but also the relationship between the hero and heroine is beyond sweet and endearing. Love how protective this hero is and is so mindful of her soft nature and considers it a treasure.

Force of Nature by Suzanne Brockmann This features a fabulous plot. I guarantee that it will keep you on the edge of your seat. No one writes suspense like Brockmann does.

I’m not big into romantic suspense. When I do read it, I usually want it light like Catherine Cowles.

I haven’t read too many romantic suspense, but I just read three reviews from Tanya for Cowles’ Lost and Found series. I think Something Wilder by Christina Lauren would fit and the FBI/US Attorney books by Julie James. Those were great.

I am so sad that it’s been so long since James released a book. I really enjoyed all of them

I loved Mackenzie’s Mountain and I’ve enjoyed Suzanne Brockman and Jennifer Ryan’s books, too. Love Lisa Kleypas but I’ve only read her historical romances. I need to try this one out. It’s giving me Sleeping With the Enemy vibes!

Yeah I think you would really love Lisa Kleypas’ contemporaries, they are really good. Blue Eyed Devil is that exactly lol the heroine kinda tends to fall for men that are her dad’s enemies lol The hero is a oil tycoon (self Made) and the heroine struggling with an abusive ex and not really having family support because she married him kinda out of rebellion to her father. Its just really great. And the audio is amazing. Does the southern vibes so well.

Suspense is the BEST, it gets a bad rap for some reason, but its one of my favorite sub genres in romance.
