Weekly Recap (Week 9) Busy Work Week

by | Feb 24, 2024 | Sunday Post | 10 comments

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week of February 18th through

This week has been so BUSY at work, I swear, by the time I finish work I am so exhausted, so honestly I just haven’t had the energy to read as much as I would have liked to if I am being honest. I have been making an effort to do some scripture journaling a little bit every day. And even though my reading has slowed a bit but not by that much. I also have been obsessed with rereading some favorite kristen ashely. I just can’t seem to STOP lol

(All links to the reviews will guide you to my Goodreads Reviews)

Book Re Read-Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley—Rating 5 Stars—This was just as good as the first time I read this one. I did do it mostly in audio and to be honest this narration is one of my least favorites from Ashley’s. I recommended if you haven’t read it, its better to be physically read.

Book ReRead-Ride Steady by Kristen Ashley—Rating 5 Stars—JUST Love this book. This is my favorite book from this series. I just love these two together, and the pining heroine and seriously loved the whole sexy biker with tortured hero vibes with a single mom heroine.

Book Read-Leopard’s Hunt by Christine Feehan—Rating 4.5 Stars—What a great setup. The pacing was a bit off in the second half, but otherwise this book was wonderful and loved getting back to the leopard series from this author.

Book ReRead-Rock Chick Rescue by Kristen Ashley—Rating 5 Stars—-This book I found on SALE for audio for $1.99, in fact I think most of the series was on sale. I am guessing it was for President’s Day. And I loved having this book in audio, I don’t think I have ever listened to this one. Seriously my favorite scenes will always be the beginning scenes, I just love it. So entertaining.

Book Read-A Kiss From A Rogue by Elisa Braden—Rating 4 Stars—This was a solid one. I was expecting it to wow me a bit more, it just didn’t quite impact me as some of the other more recently installments. But their romance was sweet and they had great mutual pining, so fun to read. If you are looking for more authentic historical’s, this author needs to be on your radar.

Book Listened-Off the Grid by Monica McCarty—Rating DNF—A disappointment. So the issue with this one is the heroine. She is a journalist and wow so toxic. She literally was okay with putting the hero and his friends in danger for a story. This is why I can’t stand journalistic heroines and I am not sure why authors write them this way. After 40% I just knew she wasn’t going to get better.

Book Read-Hunted by a Shadow by Michelle Heard—Rating 4.5 Stars—What a page turner. This really tore me up emotionally, I wasn’t expecting that. It was a book that tears your heart to shreds because its so emotionally intense and these two really go through so deep trauma but I loved her take on a beauty and beast retelling.

Book Read-Through the Glen by Samantha Young—DNF—I wanted to enjoy this one but was disappointed. This was more of a situation of the author/PR team being misleading on what to expect in a book. They made it a big deal that this heroine was shy but she really isn’t. She is more snappy/sassy type of heroine. It just felt disappointing and I just couldn’t enjoy this and lost the excitement for it.

Book Listened-The Cowboy and His Baby by Jessica Clare—Rating 3.5 Stars—This was a solid read. It does have a secret baby and the heroine took a bit too long being honest with the heroine but also she tends to believe others over the hero and just wish she had been more trusting with him. But it also wasn’t the worst secret baby I have read and really liked the cowboy vibes.

Current Reads

My Audiobook for the weekend is Moon Called and I am finally trying out this author after having her books on my TBR for at least a decade LOL But better late than never. Black Ties & White Lies by Kat Singleton is a book I have been wanting to read since it released last year. I have been itching for a classy contemporary to read. Ravished by Amanda Quick is a romanceopoly pick but also I have been wanting to read more of Quick’s historicals, and this is one of her most well loved ones. Obsession Falls by Claire Kingsley is a story that I have been on and off about but I do need to try this author out especially with her being so well loved. Tears of Betrayal by Michelle Heard when I saw the blurb for this one I just knew that I need to try it out because the premise is pretty awesome.

Book Releases I am Excited For

None This Week!

My Weekly TBR

My weekly TBR consists of what I term a “Flexible TBR” basically means I try to read this TBR every week, but sometimes I will also pick up some random books that just sound good at the time. But I will endear to stick with my TBR as its carefully picked. This week I am doing some new releases, some romanceopoly picks and a couple of books on my TBR.

Favorite Book of the Week

This was the only book I read this week (that wasn’t a reread) that was a true winner! I really enjoyed their relationship. Their trauma was difficult, just made me want to hug them. Loved how endearing they became. And very curious about the serial change and what Feehan plans for it next.

New Additions to AR Library

I did a visit to my local library and got some physical books. Not sure if I will get to them but going to try to get to some of these.

I can relate to the busy work week. It was only a four day week due to the holiday and that seemed to make it even worse (5 days of work crammed into 4). Hopefully this week will be easier on both of us! It’s always fun to go back and reread some favorites from a beloved author.

Yeah I swear holiday weeks are the worst for sure. As much as I love long weekends, it only seems to make the work longer and busier and more stressful. And yes its super fun to go back to a favorite author especially when you can’t rely on their newer work to work for you and their classics such have that nostalgia feel to it.

Life has been getting in the way of my reading this week as well! I feel so unlike myself at the moment! Hopefully we both will be able to read more again this week! 😉
I’m sorry to read about you DNF-ing the Samantha Young book. I loved it! And I don’t agree with you about a shy character not being able to be sassy at the same time! If you ask around people around me, they would say I’m shy as well. But with people I trust or have a connection with.. For example my husband.. I can be sassy as well! In the case of my husband, I got sassy right after meeting him.. very unlike me! LOL!
Claim Me Forever is definitely on my TBR as well! I love A.L. Jackson!
Have a great week and happy reading!

Yeah so we definitely have differing opinions on the Samantha Young for sure. First off, I am REALLY picky about any sassy heroine. Sometimes they come off emotionally/verbally abusive. Sure one can grow into that but I don’t care for it to be so quick and instant. Like you market the book as a super shy heroine but she isn’t actually shy. I have certain expectations on a heroine when they are supposed to be shy. I mean what is wrong with a kind and sweet shy heroine? That is what she was marketed to be and she wasn’t that at all and that first scene just turned me off. I am sure it happens sometimes to not be the case, but that first scene just turned me off and I just wasn’t able to really enjoy their dynamic because I went into the book with a certain expectation that I was sold on and just don’t feel like I received what it was being marketed for. And with how horrid the 2nd book was with how the heroine abuses the hero ….I just am not sure I want to continue with future releases for a while.
