Weekly Recap (Week 15) Oral Pain Delights

by | Apr 14, 2024 | Sunday Post | 7 comments

This post is coming out SO late. haha But I have really been wanting to get back to blogging here. So I know some of you are aware I had a oral infection a few weeks ago, well one side of my mouth is great now, but then it happened on the other side and literally the pain has been so bad I just haven’t been able to focus, and I do feel so bad that I have been neglecting this blog and you all. I do think I am on the road to being better *Crossing Fingers* But also I have been busy with family things over this past weekend as it was General Conference for my church, its literally the biggest event of the year for us.

My reading has been really weird, I did get some romance in before the infection got bad again but not as many as I would have liked to have though. The infection is hopefully getting better so I can get treatment real soon. I was worried as the infection was starting to move up my nasal and making me numb, but it seems to be getting better and I can finally breathe and actually get back to life again. But I also am getting swept away into one of my favorite series from my teen years, its a historical fiction series and is probably the series that made me really truly fall in love with reading. But also been watching the movie adaptations which are some of the best adaptations ever done. Its hard reading some of these books especially Gold to Refine because of what the early members of the church had to suffer but it also has put me in a place of perspective of how blessed I truly am.

(All links to the reviews will guide you to my Goodreads Reviews)

Book Read-Mason by Michelle Heard—Rating 4 Stars—This book was a pure delight. It was so hilarious and their banter was great and kinda wild. I am so not used to laughing so much with this author but its been a blast. If you love NA, I highly recommend these books.

Book Re Read-Stolen by A Sinner by Michelle Heard—Rating 5 Stars—Such a fun time to reread this one. Its basically a cinderella retelling mafia style. I was in a mood and just needed a comfort read.

Book DNF-A Soul to Heal by Opal Reyne-–I wanted to love this one, but yeah it just turned me off. I just didn’t like the heroine at all to be honest. And I think monster romances are really NOT for me haha They just make me cringe most of the time

Book Listened-Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs-–Rating 4 stars–What a GREAT installment. I am just having so much fun with this couple and their adventures. Seriously I am hating myself for taking so long to read this author.

Book Listened-A Pillar of Light by Gerald Lund—Rating 5 Stars–This is a reread and I am loving it. I just loved getting back to the beginning of the Steed family and where they make friends with Joseph Smith. The movie adaptation is also on Prime if any are curious, its very well done.

Book Listened-Like a Fire is Burning by Gerald Lund—Rating 5 Stars—This is a reread of the second book and this is where our family movies from Palmrya to Kirtland Ohio and the divide that is starting to happen within their family. Great installment of faith and family connection.

Book Read-Here With Me by Brooke Montgomery—Rating 3.5 Stars—So after the novella, I went into this one with expectations and while it wasn’t bad or anything, it didn’t impress me. And I just didn’t feel the emotion or the romance at all. It just felt way too focused on sex that nothing else could really make an impact. I did like how the age gap was handled except the resolvement, felt unsatisfactory to be honest.

Book Listened-Truth Will Prevail by Gerald Lund—Rating 5 Stars—What a great listen. This covers the years of 1836 to 1838 for the Steed family and some of the grand events that happened in Kirtland. It impresses me how well these books are rich in history and drama and just tug you deep into the heart of these peoples lives. This is honestly the best series if you ever want to know the history of the LDS faith.

Book Listened-Thy Gold to Refine by Gerald Lund—Rating 5 Stars—This book was the toughest. Man I was struggling emotionally because what these saints went through in Missouri is so heartbreaking. This is honestly in my opinion one of the worst periods of our church history where the government was out to exterminate those early members. Lund handled it just right. But its still tough to read. But what a ending that gives so much light and hope at the end of the tunnel.

Book Read-Lake by Michelle Heard—Rating 5 Stars—This book BLEW my socks off! I absolutely loved it dearly. And its the book I was the most nervous about because the blurb had me feeling iffy. But Heard pulled all the stops with it and it was such a comforting romance to read. I loved this interracial romance and it was so delightful and well researched for the cultural aspects as our heroine is Korean.

That dental infection sounds scary the way it was heading into your nasal cavity, too. Glad you’re healing from it. What a joyful event for your church and glad you were well enough to attend.
LOL, I’ve read a few monster romances and I’m not exactly put off by the monster, but I haven’t found one with a well-written or well-developed set of characters so they don’t draw me in for that reason. A disliked heroine? Yeah, that would do it, too. At least the rest of your reading pile was fab.

    Have a good week, Renee!

The heroine in that Opal Reyne book was horrid. I had to keep reading for the monster hero because he was an absolute gem.
I hope you’re definitely getting better. Oral infections are the WORST!! Big hugs xo
