Fast Five Friday: Historical Romance

Hey beautiful people. So Fast Five Friday is a weekly meme I will be hosting every Friday. Where just a handful of recommendations based on a certain subgenre or theme will be shared. These are just quick and my top recs for whatever topic we are doing. And this is a great way to share some quick recommendations to kick off the weekend. Feel free to comment and let me know your recommendations and what you think of the books I am recommending.

So the topic for today will be Historical Romance, even though I don’t read this genre nearly as much as I used to, Its a classic romantic genre and it will always hold my heart forever! There is something about a historical romance with adventure and passion that just makes it so much more. So wanted to share my top five. This was NOT easy and these are more underrated historical’s that aren’t as common.

The Beauty and the Spy by Gayle Callen this is such a treasure. If you love a good spy regency romance, then this is your book. It has kidnapping, espionage, secret missions, and some great chemistry.

The Golden Barbarian by Iris Johansen what I love about this one is the unique location and sense of adventure. This is set in the middle east and I absolutely adore it. So if you are looking for something with a alpha warrior hero Sheikh, a princess and some fun historical angsty times—-grab this one up. You won’t be disappointed.

Seduction of a Highland Lass by Maya Banks– This would probably be my favorite of this trilogy. Maya Banks when writing historicals is SO much different. And that COVER WHOZOA haha I love it though. The highland setting really comes alive and the plot keeps you on your toes!

Untamed Fire by Donna Fletcher Donna Fletcher is such an underrated author its not even funny. This one is set in the America’s actually, in southern california when it was a portion of Mexico. The hero is a Spaniard and its so so good. The angst is perfection.

Shotgun Bride by Linda Lael Miller if you need a solid western series that isn’t too long you can go with this one. Yeah the world of the McKettricks is big however, this series technically is really only four books. I loved the sense of family, a bit of a competition for marriage and the whole romance in this is *chef’s kiss*. These are the best books this author has written in my opinion.

So tell me what are your top five faves of historical romances that you think I would love to try out? Let me know in the comments below!

You have quite a variety up there – Western, Scottish, etc. Sounds like some great sagas in there too.

I don’t really read historical romance but I did really enjoy Highlander series by Karen Marie Moning and Transcendence by Shay Savage. I really should try to give more historical romances a try in 2024.

Yeah KMM’s Highlander books are her best work in my opinion. Not a fan of her anymore since that scandal came out. But those books were legit good. You definitely should pick some more up. I know you like dark romance…have you thought about Pam Godwin? She has a dark historical romance. And highly recommend anything Lisa Kleypas!
