Weekly Recap (Week 29) Threads the New Twitter?

by | Jul 15, 2023 | Sunday Post | 9 comments

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week of July 9th Through July 15th

This has been a conversation that I have been seeing everywhere and I am curious what you think about the new app connected to Instagram called Theads? I am loving it actually. I know its new and only been using it for a few days which is probably why my reading has gone a bit downhill this week with only 8 books. (And as my average is normally 10-12, its a bit lower than normally but still decent haha) I really think Threads will be the book twitter or how book twitter should have become. The reason I think this is because most bookstagram users, keep their instagram accounts book only focused. Not too many do anything with politics actually, and if they do well I don’t follow them on there haha I love having a twitter like feed where its just book stuff only and its awesome. I think I might be going with the Orange County Florida library system soon. Its $150 a year but I have been browsing their catalog and it seems to be decent. I tried the Las Vegas one but its not available to non residents so that made me sad because they have like 70K in romance. But If any of you can think of a library system that is slightly better than the Orange county and similar to what Brooklyn had but does accept non resident subscriptions let me know! I am okay buying books if I need to, but I do love to support libraries whenever I can and would much prefer to give my money to them than Amazon.

(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads, I have linked for you)

List and Link book reviews with ratings and description of opinion via goodreads

Book Read-Knotted by Pam Godwin—Rating 5 Stars—-what a wonderful book this turned out to be! If you love a sexy western with some edgier themes to it, I highly recommend this one. Its not super dark and probably one of the lighter books that Pam Godwin has written, and I believe its free too! I couldn’t put this one down and it had me in all my feels! Loved the BDSM as healing element, its my favorite aspect in seeing BDSM and I feel like its not super common. This is a tough one though, as it deals with trauma from sexual assault but I really related with it on a very personal level.

Book Listened-Him by Sarina Bowen+Elle Kennedy—-Rating 4.5 Stars–This book was AMAZING!!! I absolutely loved it and is one of my favorite MM romances I have ever read. I can’t wait for the continuation of their story this upcoming week with “Us”. And there was some solid hockey focus that I enjoyed. I am curious to see what these authors deliver next for our pair in question but I refuse to use the new covers (I hate them lol)

Book Listened-Bound by Desire by Ryan Michele—Rating 3.5 Stars—This rating doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy this book because you know what I really really enjoyed it. But the heroine turned me off a bit as I couldn’t relate to her. Although if you love kick ass heroines, than you will probably love her more than I did. She just had no personality to her other than being a fighter. But the hero and his storyline? I was completely invested and to be honest that is what I wanted to see the most.

Book Read- Rogue by Anna Hackett—-Rating 4 Stars—What a wonderful book, this has 2 stories that are novellas in it and really enjoyed this one. This book wasn’t perfect, I wasn’t completely invested in the characters equally but my favorite book was the desert pirate one, I loved his story and wished we had gotten more time with his book.

Book Read-Soul Deep by Lora Leigh—Rating 4 Stars–This is a novella in the Breeds series and this was a reread and had a blast coming back to this story. Not my favorite of the series, but its good for the overall enjoyment of the serial growth of the series.

Book Read-Contractually Yours by Nadia Lee—Rating 4 Stars—I had such a blast with this one here. Even though it wasn’t perfect with the third act, I still enjoyed the romance overall and it had my favorite trope in a contemporary romance so it was a delight to read.

Book Read-Beautifully Broken Pieces by Catherine Cowles—Rating 4.5 Stars—Catherine Cowles is AMAZING! And no matter what I read from her, I am always amazed by how much I fall in love with her works. This one was so endearing and loved the setup of this one and very eager to see this series grow. I love mountain lake settings (I relate with it so well as that is the setting we have in Utah). Definitely eager for book 2. If you haven’t read this author yet, this is an author every romance reader needs in their life. I guarantee she is well worth the risk.

Book Read-Pure Darkness by Aja James—Rating 3 Stars—This was a good novella, had no romance in it, but is important for the overall serial plot. Reading Creature’s story was a bit sad but loved lil Benji, and how he is able to connect with Creature. Looking forward to this father and son relationship grow in the next couple of books. Eventually I think he gets a romance in the last book but I could be wrong haha I am crossing my fingers he finds his own share of happiness though.

Current Reads

I am a behind on my reading plans from last week, I just didn’t get to as many as I was hoping for. But these are in my current lineup for the beginning of the week. My audiobooks I have planned for is: King of Wrath by Ana Huang and The Legend by Donna Grant I am really excited to start this new series by Ana Huang. Her previous series was so much fun to read. And Donna Grant has done a superb job with this series “Sons of Texas” and I can’t wait for this installment. And I love how patriotic it feels. We need more of that especially in romantic suspense. Then we have Hot Ticket and I just know that this will be one spicy book. Anyone who has read this author or this series KNOW exactly what I mean. Booktok would probably explode if they discovered this author haha Then I have Cockpit by K. Bromberg lined up here. I absolutely adore this author and this series is so fun and this is the final brother’s book. This brother is a rescue helicopter pilot. Very eager to get his story. Then we have The Architect by Nikki Sloane I have been putting this one off because of the mixed reviews but I really want to get to book 4 haha so I gotta get to this one here. I do love a crafty cunning hero.

My Weekly TBR

These are books that I have for what I term a flexible TBR shelf for the week. As some of you know, I have been working on switching from being a mood reader to a TBR reader where I just work around a flexible weekly TBR. So for this week I am mixing in plenty of sub genres. I have some romantic suspense, dark romance, sci fi, historical and some conotemporary. Very excited for the lineup I have.

Favorite Book of the Week

I would definitely say this is one of my favorites of the week haha Even if it wasn’t a full five star read, it got close to one!

New Additions to AR Library

It was ironic this week, because, Avon released 4 ARCs to me haha and there was a discussion happening on it with Threads, books I requested months ago LOL But I got some great books I can’t wait to pick up this week.

I’ve been hearing the buzz about Threads but know nothing about it. I don’t enjoy social media for the most part are rarely use any of it. I never feel good about the time I spend on it, so it’s just not for me. What I’ve heard all seems to be positive, though. I hope you’ll love Us. You’ll get to meet Blake Riley who is one of my favorite fictional characters (and who coined #Wesmie LOL). He even gets his own book (Good Boy).

I’ve not explored Threads yet, but I’ve been hearing about it more and more. Glad you felt welcome and comfortable on it. Anne at Books of My Heart got me set up on Hoopla with one of the Florida county systems, but I don’t think it has the collection that your Florida one is offering for non-residents.
One of these days I’ll start that Pam Godwin series.

    Have a good week, Renee!

I had no idea you could pay for a library subscription. I have a few I have cards for different locations in California, Southern and Northern. The Arroyo Seco/Los Angeles one has been the best so far. I’m going to sign up for one in Texas with my daughter’s address next time I’m out to visit my daughter. I’m looking forward to Bad Luck Vampire!

I haven’t signed up for threads. I don’t have a bookstagram account, just a personal one. I need to look up how your IG and threads accounts are linked first. I’m going to be stuck on Twitter until it dies I guess.
The LV library thing was great while it lasted. They did away with it a few months ago. You need to check out this library system in Florida. It’s free. https://www.broward.org/Library/pages/default.aspx
    I hope you enjoy Us!

I’ve been liking Threads. I joined it right away and I’d love to blame my reading slump on it but it’s not at fault. I just can’t get inot anything. Good haul on the Avon books.

I said I wouldn’t add another social media app but if publishing companies go to threads I might and delete my Twitter account! I only keep it because at book events like, YALC they announce winners on Twitter.

I tried Threads right when it first launched and deleted the app off my phone after five minutes – I hated it and no matter if that’s where people go, I won’t use it.
