Week Recap (Week 32) New Kindle Paperwhite

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week of July 30th Through August 5th

This was such a great week for me! I was able to spend some time with the family this past week. Work was pretty solid of a week and I was nervous about a new manager, but so far she has been super nice and great to work with. Then I did something special for myself and indulged in a new kindle paperwhite. I haven’t had a paperwhite in many years. I haven’t had one since I had the Voyage. As much as I love the scribe, its not super great for reading something that is easier to hold in my hand and is more book size. I will still use my scribe but I have been wanting to try this out. And I have been wanting a kindle I can decorate haha So I grabbed a clear case and I have some stickers and a pop socket coming in today and really excited to showcase my brand and vibe in my kindle too. And I got the pretty Sage color with it too. Hint: If amazon is out and you want that one, go to Best Buy (they have it lol, I really didn’t want to wait 2 months for it). So for reading this week I have been able to get to 11 books this week. Not quite as much as I had planned for but I got swept away by some episodes of The Waltons this week.

(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads, I have linked for you)

List and Link book reviews with ratings and description of opinion via goodreads

Book Read-Wicked Beat by Olivia Cunning—Rating 3.5 Stars—I really liked this one but I didn’t love it. I had some issues with the heroine in this one, I wasn’t a fan on how she treated the hero. She was a bit snobbish towards him.

Book Listened-King of Pride by Ana Huang—Rating 4 Stars—Such a super read! Not as good as the first book, but loved their chemistry together and the whole forbidden relationship and class difference was a great dynamic. I had a fun time seeing them having a music connection together.

Book Read-Beautifully Broken Control by Catherine Cowles—Rating 4.5 Stars—What a sweet and endearing romance. I really liked these two together. I enjoyed the suspense premise that was implemented. I do love a self made hero. They are always my favorite to read.

Book Read-Princess in Disguise by Karen Hawkins—Rating 5 Stars—This is just a novella but I adored everything about this book. And what a great book to kick off the readathon with. I loved the sense of adventure, and spice and stranded together theme.

Book Read-My Grumpy Billionaire by Nadia Lee—Rating 2.5 Stars—I really struggled with this one. The first half of the story was WEIRD haha And maybe this is why I don’t read many rom coms. But I almost DNF’d this one. You can literally skip over the first half of this book, it felt so unnecssary for their story.

Book Read-Glimmers of You by Catherine Cowles-–Rating 5 Stars—LOVED this book so dearly. It was everything and more. There is something so much more that Cowles invests in with this series. I do think these are some of her best writing. This was also the most well balanced enemies to lovers I have ever read. I loved how the angst was implemented, it was handled just right.

Book Read-Wrecked by Veronica West—Rating 4.5 Stars—This was a anticipated read since the beginning of the year. This duet has been teased all over bookstragram for months and I finally got both hands on them and LOVED Wrecked. Wrecked is about a lady race car driver and falling in love with her tutor and coach. It was amazing but this one ends in a cliffhanger.

Book Read-Ruined by Veronica West—Rating 3.5 Stars—This was the finale to the Duet and really enjoyed it. Not a fan of what the heroine does in certain things in the beginning, but I fell harder for the hero in this one. And the ending was so satisfying.

Book read-Irish Reaper by Rowena Fox—Rating 2 Stars—This is a mafia romance that was such a struggle to read. I really couldn’t get behind this one. It was way too dark and brutal for me to enjoy. The way these characters are so physically violent with each other was too much. When characters poison or stab each other, Its a pass for me haha

Book Listened-Bound by Affliction by Ryan Michele—-Rating 4 Stars—This was a solid read. I have really been loving this series. I was quickly endeared with this one here, and it dealt with some difficult issues of healing from abuse and trauma.

Book Listened-In Bed with the Devil by Lorraine Heath—Rating 5 Stars—This was a re read. There is a readalong for this series for the historical romance readathon . I read this series over a decade ago. So its been so much fun listening to this book. I had forgotten how good these books are to read.

Current Reads

I just started the audiobook for The Guardian by Donna Grant and its delightful. Its a bit bittersweet to be picking up the last book of the series and curious on how the author will finalize the series. I am just about finished with The Frat Boy by Nikki Sloane and its alright. Its not my favorite of the series if I am being honest. It has a premise that I just haven’t really been in the right mood for (with erotic romance I do need to be in a certain mindset to enjoy them) but its very interesting. Then I have Pure Destiny by Aja James I will be honest in that I just need to bite the bullet and read this book. I just haven’t gotten around to it but plan on getting it read today. Then we have Booted by Pam Godwin I am so curious to see how this one will be handled. I know it will have some plot conflict to it. Then I am going to finish off my queue with a historical “Married in Haste by Cathy Maxwell” and I really am excited for this one. I hear its super fast paced so I have high hopes for this one.

My Weekly TBR

These are books that I have for what I term a flexible TBR shelf for the week. As some of you know, I have been working on switching from being a mood reader to a TBR reader where I just work around a flexible weekly TBR. For this upcoming week I have some small town, racing romance, historical romance and some erotic romance.

Favorite Book of the Week

The author really stepped up her game with this one here, and I was so impressed with how this one was handled. Loved the angst, the redemption and the second chance trope.

I had no idea kindle paperwhites came in colors. I thought they were all black. I have a small Fire that is pink, but my old paperwhite is black, so is my Oasis. Sage is nice. I think the Scribe has some neat features, but it’s too big. I didn’t like reading on an iPad because it was big, and I read a lot as I travel to work. Hope you enjoy the new paperwhite and glad to hear things are going well with the new manager. I spy Good Boy. I loved the duet. I was sad they didn’t write more books for that series.

Glad to hear you had such a great week. And that’s great to hear your new manager is nice so far. And yay for a new kindle! Wrecked sounds like a good read, I don’t midn cliffhangers too much, but some of them can be a bit much. I hope your current reads are good ones. Have a great week!

Fun that you could get your Paperwhite and with the sage cover and can decorate it to suit you. I’ve always had a Fire and go for the rough and tough covers, but maybe I’ll get something I can custom next time. Glad the new manager is working out on your job and you had some fun with the family.
Looks like a variety pack of ratings in your books last week. Eleven’s great!

I really like reading on my Scribe but I don’t try to hold it. I prop it up on a pillow on my lap. I do have a whole collection of Kindles if I feel like reading on something smaller. I am glad you were able to get what you wanted! Nice that they come in colors now. I hope that yu have been having a great week!
