Weekly Recap (Week 31) Historical Romance Readathon

by | Jul 29, 2023 | Sunday Post | 6 comments

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week of July 23rd through July 29th

What a reading week this one was. It was another solid week as well with having read 12 books this week. My reading this week was a bit different than what I had planned originally as I had forgotten of some of the books I needed to read for the Breeds read a long and the book to read for the dark romance book club. Nothing spectacular happened, I got a new manager at work and just crossing fingers she will be nice as a manager and good to work with. There is an upcoming readathon happening for August, its a bridgerton themed readathon. Its a month long one so if you want to participate check out the introduction to it HERE

(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads, I have linked for you)

List and Link book reviews with ratings and description of opinion via goodreads

Book Read-How the Wallflower Was Won by Eva Leigh—I DNF’d this book. It was a preachy feminist historical and you all know how I don’t care those. It was very anti race and anti male type of book. Very disappointing. Not sure if I will pick this author up again.

Book Read-Control by K. Bromberg—Rating 3 Stars—This was a novella to finish off the “Everyday Heroes” series and I absolutely adored this one here. Not perfect of course, but it was a good way to get these characters a HEA.

Book Read-Epic by Sarina Bowen + Elle Kennedy—Rating 5 Stars—What is it about this couple??? I am wanting to bang my head against the wall for taking so long to read these books haha and this novella was amazing. And that whole hockey game scene (WHOOT WHOOT, I was literally cheering these boys on) Is it bad that I miss them playing against each other?? haha and Blake I swear he is like This book was perfection. And I have already reread it haha I can’t wait to get these on print if I can find the original covers for them. But these books just gave me just happy feels that I really needed to experience.

Book Read-ABound Wedding by Ryan Michele—Rating 3 Stars—This was a endearing novella but I was a bit lost because Goodreads led me wrong on this one and its #14 book and not where it was supposed to be haha. Good lesson to double confirm with the author site for the series order, Goodreads isn’t always correct.

ARC Book Read-Wilde Love by Jennifer Ryan—Rating 5 Stars—What a amazing book! This might be one of my favorite books from this author actually. It just had such a epic feel to the romance and just left me on the edge all the way. Its very low angst relationship wise, and the conflict is outside of the relationship. I loved these two together, they were so sweet in their relationship and I loved how they were willing to fight for each other from the very beginning no matter the danger. And adored their families.

Book DNF’d—Grave Love by Audrey Rush—I wanted to enjoy this but its not a romance, its a horror novel with some romantic elements. But it just had some things in it that just turned me off completely.

Book Re-Read-Megan’s Mark by Lora Leigh—Rating 5 Stars—This was a great reread and its been a blast to return to the Breeds and picking up some of my old favorites!

Book Read-Beautifully Broken Spirit by Catherine Cowles—Rating 4.25 Stars—This was so so good. Not my favorite of the series, but really loved their secret relationship. And they have such a great bond together. I am so sad I am almost through this author’s backlisted books. She needs to write faster haha

Book Read-Overcome by Lora Leigh—Rating 4 Stars—-What a great anthology and it was great finally getting to this one. I never did get to this one originally and some great books were included into this anthology.

Book Read-Hot Spell Anthology —Rating 4 Stars—Loved this combination of authors and what they brought together. Definitely also had me intrigued by these other authors as well.

Book Listened—The Defender by Donna Grant—Rating 4.5 Stars—Adored this book. So fun seeing how this one evolved. I really loved this pair together although my heart broke seeing the hero’s dad and what happened to him. But we are finally getting some things happening good against the “Saints”. I can’t wait for the finale.

Book Read-How To Tame a Wild Rogue by Julie Anne Long—Rating 4.5 Stars—What a GREAT ONE!!! One of the best of the series and from this author. I loved the vibes of this story. It just had such a great dynamic between these two. A hero who is a pirate from the london underground and the heroine is a widow he saved and then they have to pose as a married couple and its so fun seeing them connect together. The Orange scene is all I can say.

I just started the audiobook for “King of Pride” by Ana Huang and really looking forward to getting to this one. Ana Huang is always such a delight. Wicked Beat is my current read and really loving this crew. From the first paragraph I was hooked all the way into it. Very looking forward to Pure Destiny by Aja James. Its not a book I am excited for as its a couple I am not super invested in. But I really want to read her dragons so I gotta get through this one. Then we have Booted by Pam Godwin. I just wasn’t able to get to this one this past week, so very excited to delve into it this weekend. Then finishing off my weekend with this Nadia Lee of My Grumpy Billionaire. I am really excited for this one, I just love a fun grumpy sunshine read.

My Weekly TBR

These are books that I have for what I term a flexible TBR shelf for the week. As some of you know, I have been working on switching from being a mood reader to a TBR reader where I just work around a flexible weekly TBR. For this upcoming week I have some small town, racing romance, historical romance and some erotic romance.

Favorite Book of the Week

This book was so amazing! Loved the way the author implemented a MC character and it was done in a way I am not used to seeing but the romance had such a epic feel to it

Glad you remembered you had your readalong book this week. Nice stack you got through even if a few had to be set aside for reasons. I need to read that last story for the Him series. And, the Donna Grant series is calling me to finish those, too. Crossing fingers your new manager works out.

    Have a good week, Renee!
