Author Deep Dive: Joanna Wylde

Deep Dives is a new feature here on the site, I have been wanting to do this for a while now. This is a feature where I will focus on the works of one specific author (and if you want an author for me to delve into their works, let me know and I will add it to my list) normally this feature will be an author that is popular or readers want more background on. But I think this is a good idea as I have seen it around booktube and bookstagram. So I thought it would be fun to maybe get it going in the blogging atmosphere! We gotta stay with the times peeps haha

Joanna Wylde is such a superb author, and she was my first introduction into both Dark Romance and also MC romance. Now not ALL MC romance is Dark Romance. It really depends on the author and what sub genre they choose to write whether its regular Contemporary Romance or go more grittier into MC Romance. I do think that Joanna Wylde is one of the BEST authors in MC Romance, and I will die on this hill. haha But this is an author I feel like is a great one if you want to start reading dark romance and/or enjoy MC romance if you have enjoyed reading it from regular Contemporary Romance.

Joanna Wylde is the New York Times bestselling author of the Reapers MC series. She started her writing career in journalism, working in two daily newspapers as both a reporter and editor. Her career has taken different paths, from managing a homeless shelter to running her own freelance writing business, where she took on projects ranging from fundraising to ghostwriting for academics. During 2012 she got her first Kindle reader as a gift and discovered the indie writing revolution taking place online. Shortly afterward she published her breakout book, Reaper’s Property, and started writing fiction full time.

Joanna lives in the mountains of northern Idaho with her family.

Reapers MC

I absolutely adored this series. Now I have combined both the Reapers and the Silver Bastard series together because there is only one full-length novel and a novella in the Silver Bastard series, so I have put them together so its not so confusing. She first wrote this series back in 2013 and the most recent novella was written back in 2019. I am not sure if we will still see books from this author if I am being honest or what motivated the author to stop writing full-length novels. But I am so glad that she delivered so well in the Reapers series. And I have to say I think its due to this series that really caused MC romance to really expand in the romance genre. These were published back in a time when MC wasn’t common and more taboo at the time and it was also published by a traditional publishing house. This series is just perfection, and so well balanced. Its obviously a contemporary setting but its also darker themed in some aspects and definitely has a grittier feel to the romance and the atmosphere of it. Its not for the faint of heart, but these are also the best book to get you into the darker edged genre of romance. The hero are full on alpha, but the heroines are strong and feisty and so relatable. The writing is addictive, and you won’t be able to put them down at all. We get a strong sense of brotherhood and family which is so well portrayed.

Saurellian Federation

I will be honest, I know NOTHING about this series. You can see that it was written with Ellora’s Cave. I haven’t read these books and didn’t even know about them. I am assuming they are sci-fi smut haha many of them are shorter books, so I don’t think its regular romance, probably higher in the steam level most likely. But I am intrigued by this so I definitely will be picking up these books to see what they are all about.

AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO DO ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE AUTHORS OR AN AUTHOR YOU WANT MORE IN-DEPTH EVALUATION ON—I HAVE THIS FORM HERE YOU CAN FILL OUT AND I WILL ADD IT TO MY LIST!

I’ve enjoyed the Reapers series and I think I’ve read most if not all, but not all the novellas. It is more gritty than KA’s MC romances, and sometimes the heroes were downright jerks, but I usually loved them by the end. Will have to catch up. Yeah, I haven’t seen anything out by her lately.
