Author Deep Dive: Lorraine Heath

Deep Dives is a new feature here on the site, I have been wanting to do this for a while now. This is a feature where I will focus on the works of one specific author (and if you want an author for me to delve into their works, let me know and I will add it to my list) normally this feature will be an author that is popular or readers want more background on. But I think this is a good idea as I have seen it around booktube and bookstagram. So I thought it would be fun to maybe get it going in the blogging atmosphere! We gotta stay with the times peeps haha

There is something so special about reading a Lorraine Heath Novel. I have a soft place for this author, as she was one of my very first authors to read! I loved the way she just pulls the reader in and just delivers on well developed characters, and beautiful stories being told!

Lorraine Heath has always had a soft spot for emotional love stories. No doubt because growing up, watching movies with her mom, she was taught that the best movies “won’t half make you cry.”

She is the daughter of a British beauty (her mom won second place in a beauty contest sponsored by Max Factor® during which she received a kiss from Caesar Romero, (the Joker on the original Batman TV series) and a Texan who was stationed at Bovingdon while serving in the air force. Lorraine was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, but soon after moved to Texas. Her “dual” nationality has given her a love for all things British and Texan, and she enjoys weaving both heritages through her stories.

When she received her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas, she had no idea she had gained a foundation that would help her to create believable characters—characters that are often described as “real people.” She began her career writing training manuals and computer code for the IRS, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she became not only hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She’s been writing about them ever since.

Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards including RWA’s RITA®. Her novels have appeared on bestseller lists, including USA TODAY and the New York Times.

The author of more than 60 novels, she writes historical and contemporary romance for adults and historical romance for teen readers.

Contemporary Duo

This is a duo series that was written by Feehan in the early 2000’s, and is her only contemporary romances that she wrote. These are also one of the few books that I have yet to read from her but I do remember when these were released and how well loved they were!

WWII HISTORICAL FICTION

Its been so long since I read a historical fiction, but this one was released last year and I am really super intrigued. I am curious to see how Lorraine Heath handles a historical fiction, I do love stories based on WWII.

The Standalone American Historicals

Lorraine Heath backlisted books, are mostly standalones. These books are mostly westerns and are set in America. I will be honest in that I haven’t read most of these but I have read some of them and they are so addictive and stunning and unique! If you like to pick up historicals that are different and unexpected, these are ones that you need to pick up.

The Young Adult Romances

These books are so wonderful! They were some of my first romance novels, and if you like YA, then I can’t recommend these enough! They are just so atmospheric and beautiful and fun! What is so unique about these books is the sense of witty humor, the forbidden like love feeling between them all

The Western Series

Texas Trilogy

These books are honestly my favorite westerns from her. If you are going to read anything from her first, I actually recommend “Texas Glory” the most! But each book is just beautiful and love the bond between the three brothers. The last book “Texas Legacy” was a gift Lorraine wrote for her readers. In features the adopted son Rawley and their natural born daughter “Faith”. Each brother has the name of a Texan city. You can read these as standalones, but I actually recommend reading them in order to get the best experience.

Daughters of Fortune

These books are so different than your typical westerns. The author really delivered on some unique set up here. Some of the characters in these books are connected to the couples in the “Rogues of Texas”. They are looksely connected though. But these books are best followed by “The Lost Lords” if you want to read the connecting series in order.

Lost Lords

This trilogy features a direct connection to “Love With A Scandalous Lord”. These are set in England though and features the Regency era.

Rogues in Texas

This trilogy is connected to the “Daughters of Fortune” as the couples here are the parents to some of the characters in the “Daughters of Fortune” books. This trilogy is about three Englishmen that come to America, to work in Texas and find their ladies! These books are pretty amazing. I can’t recommend them enough especially if you are a fan of westerns and if you aren’t, these books will get you hooked!

The England/Victorian Era Series

Now Lorraine Heath ventured into Regency/Victorian books and these books are what she is most well known for! So many of these you probably have read, if not, you will recognize them most likely. Many of these books are connected to each other though. I will explain how they are all connected to each other though. There is something in how she writes these books. They are dazzling, sensual and deeply romantic! If Regency/Victorian historical’s are your jam, then these books are must reads!

Scoundrels of St. James

This series is spectacular! These books are simply superb in every way. I love the bond between these friends, who find their own way together. This series is about a group of friends that grew up in the underground of London, and together found their way to working with members of the Ton. They each find a spouse within the Ton and these are their stories.

Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James

This series features the children of the couples in the “Scoundrels of St. James” , I do recommend reading the Scoundrel of St. James, before reading these. These are mostly with the couples from the books “Between the Devil and Desire, Surrender to the Devil and Last Wicked Scoundrel”.

Hellions of Havisham

This series is directly connected to the Gentlemen of St. James books. So you want to read that series, before reading this series. You don’t necessarily have to, but the connections will make more sense if you do. This series is around a group of men, who all suffered in their past so are easily forgiven by the Ton. These are their stories in falling in love and finding redemption.

Rogues and Roses

These two books aren’t connected to any other series by this other, so if you just want to dip your toes into Regency England with Heath, then these are great to delve into!

London’s Greatest Lovers

These books are so amazing! I believe I five starred them all! There was something so fun about these books. They definitely have the flair that you will find with a Lorraine Heath, but they also bring something different and can be read from the other connecting books. This trilogy is about three rakes who are determined NEVER to fall in love but boy are they in for some surprises their ladies will give them!

Lost Lords of Pembrook

There is something so charming and intriguing about this series. It features three young heirs, who all were abused by a family member and imprisoned. They found a way to escape England, and then come back to reclaim what was taken from them. All of them are spectacular, although my personal favorite is “Lord of Wicked Intentions”. These are all sexy swoony reads!

Sins For All Seasons

This series features a found family that were all saved by their adopted mother who saved them from baby farms and they each find their own way among the Ton. Each book is a bit different, but just as wonderful.

Once Upon a Dukedom

This is a trilogy that is so wonderful and charming to read! I really loved how sexy these books are, the sense of redemption and regaining what their families lost.

The Chessman: Masters of Seduction

This is the most current series by Lorraine Heath. I absolutely adored the first book and I can’t wait for the next one. Its unclear what the series is fully about but my impression so far is that its about secret identities to pursue other interests but according to Heath’s website its about the queen winning the game of chess between them. My only complaint is the covers, I really don’t like them changing her signature font that she has had for decades!

I don’t think that I have read this author yet. I am pretty sure that I have a few of her books on my Kindle though so I do hope to someday.

Heath is new to me, for all I know. I don’t recall any of the romances I read in my teens (I loved that paperback rounder at the library), but I know they were contemporaries. Those YA look Western? Historical? Doubt I read them.
