Weekly Recap (Week 41) October Reset + First Snow

by | Oct 8, 2023 | Sunday Post | 6 comments

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week of October 1st through October 7th

I had such a great week folks! Hope you have all enjoyed the first week of October! I absolutely had a blast this week. This was BYU’s Bi Week so had some fun watching some other teams I like to watch. I am really into college football so this is the best time of year to watch it. Not really caring though about the Taylor Swift thing though. I like her music and all but kinda tired of seeing that everywhere. I am all good letting her live her private life in …private haha We did get some good rain this past week and we got our first snow in the mountains! Man I am NOT ready for winter, I am tell you all, we had such a long winter I still haven’t thawed out. But hopefully our fall will last a while longer. We are seeing so many reds and oranges especially in the mountains. Going for a drive today to enjoy all the colors before too much snow gets in the mountains.

My reading for the week was very good, just solid at 12 books. I didn’t listen to as many audiobooks as I would have liked, but did get some good coloring in. I have really been enjoying that again. I really need to keep up with it more, because its so relaxing and brings out my creative side.

(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads, I have linked for you)

List and Link book reviews with ratings and description of opinion via goodreads

Book Read-Fall Into You by J.T. Geissinger–Rating 4 Stars—This was a very solid installment. I enjoyed it more than the first book. The humor in it was overkill though. Took away from the romance and relationship aspects a bit.

Book Re-Read-This Is All I Ask by Lynn Kurland—Rating 5 Stars—I was able to do a reread of this one and it was fabulous. Its been so long since I have reread this book and I really need a new physical copy because the one I have is falling apart I have read it so much lol But if you love medieval romance with Julie Garwood vibes and don’t mind fade to black, this is a must read.

Book Read-God of Ruin by Rina Kent—Rating 4.25 Stars–This was an amazing read! I absolutely loved it. While it wasn’t quite a five star, I had a blast reading this dark romance. Its bananas but fun and angsty and all that forbidden love was delicious to read.

Book Read-Dark Memory by Christine Feehan—Rating 3.5 Stars—I really enjoyed this one. The plot was fantastic. My struggle though was with this heroine. I think also I just wasn’t in the mood for a kick-ass heroine so I do think that affected my enjoyment a bit. But if you love vampires/immortals, this author does it so well.

Book Listened-Looking for a Cowboy by Donna Grant—Rating 4 Stars–This was a great one. The plot was so well done but it was kinda sad. The heroine is a PI that investigates kidnapped babies to sell out under the pretense of adoption.

Book Read-Soul Eater by Lily Mayne—Rating 4 Stars—I enjoyed this one. It wasn’t perfect but I see why its so popular. Now I have to determine if I want to brave the series haha

Book Listened-Kiss An Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips—Rating 4.5 Stars—-What a read! This book packed a punch. I adored the arranged marriage trope and the circus setting although the animal treatment was hard to read at times.

Book Read-Return to Monte Carlo by Cate C. Wells—Rating 3 Stars—This one was a struggle. I really think this author’s writing style is not for me. Her writing needs help with editing and just some polish. Its so rough to read at times and her pacing is all over the place.

Book Read-The Quiet by Linda Kage—Rating 4.5 Stars—This book really was epic! Its also a standalone so if you want to try this author out, this is a great one where you don’t have to get invested in a series. Its such a sweet one. It had some Archers voice vibes a bit. The hero is the outcast of the town and treated so badly by them. Then we have the heroine who is mute and hispanic descent and the author really handled the representation very well. Loved their friends to lovers romance. So endearing.

Book Read-Deep Redemption by Tillie Cole—Rating 5 Stars–What a BOOK! This was the most powerful book in the series. It had my heart and emotions all over the place and it struck deep.

Book Read-Huckleberry Harvest by Jennifer Beckstram—Rating 4.25 Stars–I really enjoyed this one. So refreshing to read an inspirational romance. This one was soft and cozy and low angst for the most part. Just what I needed. It had a bit of forbidden love to it with a tortured hero. My only issue with this one is that the heroine’s best friend who treats her and the hero awful never gets justice or has to make any apologies. Maybe that’s the Amish way, I am not sure, but I thought she was horrible and not a true friend in what she did.

My Weekly TBR

These are books that I have for what I term a flexible TBR shelf for the week. As some of you know, I have been working on switching from being a mood reader to a TBR reader where I just work around a flexible weekly TBR. This week my focus is new releases, I know I did that last week but this week has a bunch lol And I have a couple of ARC’s that I can’t resist reading.

Favorite Book of the Week

There is something so magical about Susan Elizabeth Phillips and I love how she writes Rom Coms, they are just working so well for me. And plus this had a circus setting, I don’t think I have ever read that before.

New Additions to AR Library

I got some goodies this past week. I was thrilled to find Wilde for You in my kindle. Avon is so nice to me haha

Here’s hoping the fall is a good and long one. It’s my favorite season, so I am right there with you. I am not big into sports, but I did watch college football when I lived down south. Every game counts, and back then, they played with a lot more heart than Pros. Wonder if that will change with them being able to be paid now.

Wow, you got snow early! We’ve been having gorgeous reds, oranges, and yellows, too. I just love it!. Hopefully, you get back to normal fall weather.

Yes, I agree, I like Taylor Swift’s music, but I think I’d live my private life more private.

Snow in the mountains? Ack! So hard to imagine down here in FL. lol Hope you’re enjoying those gorgeous fall colors, though. I have no strong feelings on the Taylor Swift thing. It’s kind of cute – the pop royalty queen and the football player – but at the same time I truly do not understand why it is worldwide news. Haha. I was hesitant about Deep Redemption – unsure if I actually wanted Rider/Cain’s story – but oh my goodness. I was floored but how much his story impacted me. So, so good!

It has started getting cool here but I am not ready for snow at all. I do love the fall colors though. It looks like you had a wonderful reading week and I love that you are finding time to color as well. Have a great week!
