Recommend IT: Secret Baby

Recommend It is a new feature I want to try to do on a more consistent basis, I have actually received such great feedback for this weekly post, so I will be doing this weekly. I am so excited as I always have such great recommendations as I read all over the genre and my hope is that I can share recs that are for all the sub genres if I can! The “Recommend It” feature, is where I will recommend romances based on a certain theme, trope or character type. If you have a trope or theme or character type you want me to put at the top of my list, I have a form that I have created that will just automatically upload into my spreadsheet and I will put it at the top of my list! I feel like as book bloggers, reviewers, readers, we all have great lists to share and this is what I hope I can do for any that want to expand their horizons in the romance genre.

Secret Baby is a trope that can be very difficult to read. It’s a trope that will literally have me DNF a book if it’s handled the wrong way. So, I am very picky about these. There is not a trope out there that makes me madder as a hatter than this one. Because when its written in a certain way, the heroine comes off as abusive and toxic and very manipulative and self concerning. My personal belief is this….if you can have sex with someone, you can certainly tell them the truth if you are pregnant. Its that simple. However, when it’s done right, it can be the most poignant and beautiful storytelling and will deliver straight to the heart. I really do wish authors were better in how this trope is handled, because this list is very SHORT lol. I would love to discover some powerful secret baby books but I am always so scared because most of the time, authors just don’t handle it right. But here below I have a great list of my personal favorites that I highly recommend to you all.

Top Pick

Reckless by Elsie Silver has the best writing for a secret baby trope that I have ever had the honor to read. There is just something about this book that is so uniquely special and its very obvious the author was super delicate in how it was handled. I adored how it all played out and both the hero and heroine were just gold. Best book this author has written in my opinion.

This is a story that brings together a situation where the hero leaves and betrays the heroine (or so she believes at first) its really heartbreaking the situation in this one but it binds the couples closer than ever.

When it comes to see this trope in a historical, I am much more forgiving as the situations back then were vastly different. This couple is a rakish hero with a spinster heroine. Great dynamic.

In this one we have a story of the heroine having a hard time finding the hero as they had a one night stand. So its definitely understanding how this one happens but love how it developed.

While this one didn’t have the perfect secret baby trope, it didn’t have a bad one either and its more understandable with the heroine being on the run. So it makes sense why it was a secret in the way that it was.

This was a secret baby that while it had its challenges, it also had some great emotional depths to it and great rewards in the end. Its not a horrible secret baby but its a secret baby that is understandable in how it happens.

This is one where the heroine is willing to do what it takes for her child. She doesn’t keep the child a secret for long and she definitely has a more selfless heart.

If you would like to give me your requests for what type of recs you would like in a recommend it post, I have a link HERE so that I can put them at the top of the line!

So what do you think of my recommendations for Secret Baby? What are some of your favorites that I need to add to my TBR? Let me know in the comments below!

I seem to be ok, and even like, this trope. I have not read any of these. Then, Now, Always by Mona Shroff was excellent. I liked Lies & Lullabies too which was recent for me. And Zara’s book in True North, Fumbled, and The Cad and the Co-Ed. All good
