Weekly Recap (Week 8) Happy Valentines Day

by | Feb 18, 2024 | Sunday Post | 8 comments

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week of February 11th through February 17th

What a week this has been! Holiday weeks always seem to go way faster than even regular weeks. I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day! I mostly just relaxed and indulged in a candlelit bath and treated myself to some chocolate covered strawberries and been reading some wonderful books this past week and it was so fun this week to really just focus on the romance…but really for us romance lovers—-EVERY DAY is Valentines! LOL I also treated myself to some KA classic reads. There is nothing better than indulging in her classic writing, and no one can convince me her newer releases have the same vibe, NOT EVEN CLOSE! LOL

(All links to the reviews will guide you to my Goodreads Reviews)

Book Read- Surrender by Sam Mariano—Rating 3 Stars—I wanted to love this one but it was average for Mariano. Technically its one of her older books and it didn’t feel that polished, so probably just symptom of early writing before she really polished her writing up to what it is now. But I am nervous about what she is planning for the next book and not sure I will read it to be honest. I don’t like being teased something in the series and then just having an author throw in a different dynamic just for shock value.

Book Read-Bound by Tears by Tracey Jane Jackson-Rating 3.5 Stars— I really enjoyed this one in many ways but the book had a prickly heroine and she just didn’t work for me. I know she went through some tough things, but the way she treats others after a decade just rubbed me the wrong way.

Book Read-Bound to the Battle God by Ruby Dixon—DNF—Yeah I was shocked too. I just didn’t enjoy where the plot was going and its a LONG book and I just didn’t feel like investing in a book that felt weird. Maybe sometime later I will try it in audio and see if that is better as I do most of her books in audio these days.

Book ReRead-Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley—After coming off a string of not super great reads, I knew I needed a fill me up so I decided to indulge in one of my favorite series…..The Dream Man series. And yeah Hawke was delicious and man I loved these alpha vibes. Seriously if I am ever kidnapped…send HAWKE my way haha

Book Listened-The Emperor by RuNyx—-Rating 4.5 Stars—WHAT A RIDE!! This book just blew me away. The plot kept me on the edge of my seat! I am really enjoying how she is developing these characters and the plot, they just work so well for me. This may be a controversial opinion, but these books are better than Gothikana (at least for me its better)

Book Read-Wild Man by Kristen Ashley—Rating 5 Stars—-Just as good as the first time that I read it. Probably because its been a long while since I did a reread of this one. This hero is underrated in my opinion for KA heroes. Just love this man. The chair throwing y’all

Book Read-Wild For You by Kristen Proby—Rating 4.5 Stars–WOW this book impressed me so much. I have been a fan of this author for years but honestly, this is one of the best book she has ever written. She really did her research because she really made Montana as gorgeous as it really is. (seriously I would live there, they have so many valleys just like its described here) Not a five star because the heroine wrong the hero at times and never groveled and it was a matter of safety and that matters.

Book Read-Enemies by Tijan—Rating 4.25 Stars—The angst in this book was delicious and just as good as everyone in their reviews claimed. I had issues with the third act conflict, it was really strange and an element of the heroine not groveling when she should have.

Book Read-Colter’s Woman by Maya Banks—Rating 2.5 Stars—This is why Reverse Harem is NOT for me. One it just makes me uncomfortable and rubs me the wrong way especially when its not developed or just feels so one sided. Like the woman doesn’t have to do anything for the heroes? relationships need all parties involved and working to make work and also RH like this just don’t get the development it should. I might continue with the series but I will space them out and see if it delivers the relationship building I need. Anyone read these books that have insight?

Book ReRead–Law Man by Kristen Ashley—Rating 5 Stars—I LOVED this book even if the heroine is a bit weird in the beginning. I just loved so many moments and adored the kids in this one. Now its onto Tack!!! LOL

Current Reads

My Audiobook for my long weekend is going to be Through the Glen and Off the Grid by Monica MCCarty. I have been meaning to get to these books and since I have this weekend off until Tuesday going to indulge into some listening and work on some projects. Then of course I am going to pick up Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley I am doing this as a re read. Lately I have just been wanting some classic OG alpha males and Ashley does them perfectly and since I no longer can read her newer stuff, delving into her classic books. A Kiss from a Rogue by Elisa Braden I want to really get to this weekend. I just love this series and need to catch up on her books before her newest release. The newest release from Feehan is Leopard’s Hunt and y’all have no idea how excited I am for my preoder to come in for this one. I just love her leopard books.

Book Releases I am Excited For

Leopard’s Hunt by Christine Feehan

In Want of a Viscount by Lorraine Heath

Love Contract by Sopohie Lark

Pretty Rings and Broken Things by Kat Singleton

My Weekly TBR

My weekly TBR consists of what I term a “Flexible TBR” basically means I try to read this TBR every week, but sometimes I will also pick up some random books that just sound good at the time. But I will endear to stick with my TBR as its carefully picked. This week I have romanceopoly picks and some books on my series tracker. And YES I am FINALLY picking up a Patricia Briggs…it BETTER be as good as y’all rave about. haha (let me know if this is the best book to start with)

Favorite Book of the Week

This book was so precious. It was really atmospheric, had some solid suspense, Unexpecting connection to other series that I loved and their romance was so sexy and sweet. If you are fans of Catherine Cowles or Laura Pavlov, this book needs to be on your TBR.

This is shocking! I have never seen you have so many low ratings. Glad you rewarded yourself with those strawberries because the reading gods were not kind to you. I understand why you did a reread at that point. Hope next week is better reading-wise.
