Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week of May 21st through May 27th
This was such a fun week! I was able to go to the first showing in my area for the live action “Little Mermaid” and I ADORED it. If you want to know my full thoughts, I did post a review for it, so I will have the link for that below if you are interested. But it was amazing and the romance was so beautifully well done. Its #1 on my list for the live actions that have been done. If you haven’t seen it yet, YOU need to go see it especially if you were fans of the animated film of it. I do recommend you see it in 3D or at least the nearest IMAX if you can. It will just make the underwater scenes work better for you. My reading this week was pretty solid at 9 books. Work was kinda crazy this week but I was able to pick up some fabulous reads and I had some tankers. So it was a mixed week of reading. But I did gift myself the printed copy of “Twisted Lies” by Ana Huang and found the whole box set of DVD of The Waltons at Walmart for like $60 so added that to my collection. Its about time as its my favorite TV show of all time.
(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads, I have linked for you)
List and Link book reviews with ratings and description of opinion via goodreads
Book Read- Maniac by Onley James—Rating 4 Stars—This was the finale in the series and wow this series really packed a punch! But I absolutely loved all of these books and while the finale wasn’t a favorite of the series, it was super delicious and fun to read.
Book Read-Shadow Dance by Christine Feehan—Rating 4.5 Stars—This BOOK!!! Was so dang good. This is Geno’s book and man it was yum yum. I truly love what this author has been able to do with this series and the sense of family and kick ass characters really packs a punch. Definitely delightful. If you are a fan of this author, or this series, you will have a great time with it.
Book Listened-Witches Get Stitches by Juliette Cross—Rating 2.5 Stars—I really struggle with this series (not this author, her backlisted stuff I really like) but this book especially was so bad. The heroine basically treats the hero badly for something she was warned not to do and she does this for 2 years…..I just couldn’t enjoy seeing the hero who is just a good man be treated be so badly for a heroine who is just ridiculous and plus the snarky humor in this one just came off demeaning and not funny or charming.
Book Listened-Seduce Me by Ryan Michele—Rating 4.5 Stars—I was SO impressed with this book. It really delivered for me on all counts. It was so well done and while it does have the secret baby trope, it was done in a way that made sense and worked for me completely.
Book Read-Dangerous Innocence by Cora Reilly—-Rating 3.5 Rating—I liked this book. Its a new release from Cora Reilly and it did have a fresh feel to the story but I just wasn’t a fan of the heroine that much, even though the hero is mafia, he was giving much more to the relationship than she was willing to. And what is it with this author starting her series off with the heroine betraying the hero? I just don’t like it haha
Book Listened-Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline—Rating 4 Stars—This book was superb! I actually really loved it. It also had some fun sci fi romance vibes to it that seemed to really work and as a plus its also marriage of convenience which really worked for me.
Book Read-Voyeur by Fionia Cole—Rating 4 Stars—Such a solid read. This was a book I read for my Dark Romance Book Club and the reason its dark romance is for the taboo romance. Other than the taboo in it, it felt contemporary or new adult. Its basically dealing the student/teacher trope while also dealing with the hero suffering from PTSD from child sexual assault. It definitely had the emotion but is also has plenty of spice and fun scenarios. Very intrigued for more.
Book Listened-If This is Love by Jewel E. Ann—Rating 3 Stars— I wanted to love this, I really did but I am kinda confused on why there are so many high ratings. But maybe if you love a dramatic western soap opera with immature characters then sure its a great read lol but SO not for me. I wanted to strangle the heroine so many times it isn’t funny. And the ending felt so lackluster. If you are going to put your reader through hell at least deliver on the ending. I am not sure if this is the norm for the author, but I am wary on her currently. So if any of y’all have read her, let me know what book you think I should try from her.
Book Read—The Heiress Bride by Madeline Hunter—Rating 4 Stars—This was a great historical romance to finish my week off. I actually had a blast with this one here. Its a solid historical with such a good mystery behind it. Be wary of the audio narration, its not great as the accents used are super thick and just super distracting.

So this is the lineup I have for Memorial Day Weekend. I am so lucky that I get to have a three day weekend and going to use that time to READ haha So as I am writing this post, I am just about to start Resonance Surge and yeah I am excited because I have heard we return to the BEARS haha and I can’t tell you all how excited I am for that. Then we have some dark romance up next with The Rebel by Sophie Lark and Liars Like Us by J.T. Geissinger and I am in for a dramatic time but ready to enjoy it with these authors. Then going to get to this Linda Kage with Secrets That We Keep. I am really nervous with the blurb but I haven’t met one Linda Kage book I didn’t love so I am sure I will love it once I start it up. Then finishing off Memorial Day reading with this Dino shifter romance that Nina Bangs recently published in Eternal Shadows. I am hoping its easy to read and super fun.
