May 2023: Monthly Recap

by | May 31, 2023 | At A Glance, Month Updates | 6 comments

Wow how has May flown by! And what a crazy fun month it has been. The weather has been finally SPRING and Summer feels, and I am loving all the warm weather. We had such a long winter. Did some traveling to Vernal to see my sister and I always love doing these short lil’ road trips. I was able to finish some series this month and while my reading wasn’t exactly in my plans it was still pretty dang solid. And a long anticipated film was released this month which I had a blast with! I have only been waiting years for it.

Acquisitions/Savings

So one of my goals for this year, is to track my acquisitions and see what I am saving through my subscriptions and such. So each month I will be sharing my month’s current savings. Now while part of me would love to purchase everything and keep all of it, and while I do have the money to buy books, its nice to save money when and where I can especially during a recession.

May Totals:

Total Spent: $76.89

Subscription Costs: Libraries, Audible Plus, Anyplay, KU: $28.98

Total Month Savings: $188.35

Reading Challenges

So, I am not participating in too many reading challenges this year. My focus for the year is the Goodreads (of course), Romanceopoly and a few of the reading challenges on Storygraph. Just simple ones. So below I will be sharing my reading progress with you on these every month.

Goodreads Reading Challenge

I am at 205 books out of 500 and I am 1 book ahead of schedule. So far I am keeping steady with the challenge.

Romanceopoly Reading Challenge-Under the Covers Book Blog

So I have completed 77% of the challenge. I have been keeping up with the books that I plan on for this. I have really been loving this challenge so far and I got caught up on it! If you are looking for a FUN challenge, you definitely need to join in on it. I also love how adaptable it is, you can really make it work for you in whatever way

Nash Hartley has always been my everything: Protector. Partner in crime. Best friend. The person who was there for me in my darkest hour.

But my heart wanted so much more. So, when I knew for certain Nash didn’t feel the same about me, I tried to move on. What a mistake that turned out to be.

Now, I’m back in our small town, desperate to escape my living nightmare, and the only person I want to see is him.

As secrets are revealed, and Nash finds out what happened to me, he’ll do anything to keep me safe.

But there are those who will do anything to stop him, and this time neither of us may make out alive…

Rating: 5 out of 5.

What a endearing friends to lovers romance this one turned out to be. There is such a strong atmospheric vibe to this with a small sub plot of suspense to it that really builds on the story so well. Catherine Cowles is quickly becoming a favorite author.

After I caught my boyfriend cheating, I tried to be mature about it with an amicable split. But he took his retaliation too far, and I have officially had enough. No more Miss Nice Haven.

No one is allowed to lie to me, betray, embarrass, and devastate me, fill me with self-doubt, or put my future at risk, and expect to get away with it. He is going to feel my wrath.

Enter Wick Webster, his archenemy.

Nothing would provoke my ex more than to see me moving on with the one guy he hates most, so that’s exactly what I plan to do.

The only hitch in my brilliant scheme is Wick himself. He’s just gotta be all love-not-war and peace-is-the-only-way. He’s more concerned about helping me heal than seeking my sweet revenge.

And what the hell is it about his soothing presence and yummy looks that calls to me until I forget how much pain I’m in? He’s making it awfully hard to use and abuse him for my malicious means. The damn guy is making me fall for him.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

What a wonderful new adult romance this one is. Linda Kage is queen for me. Every time I pick her up, I am so entertained and The Revenge Plan was a book that was so different than I actually expected. Had some great depths to it with such beautiful bantering.

Tensions and passions rise in the city that never sleeps in this propulsive novel in #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan’s Shadow Riders series.

As the head of the New York City Shadow Riders and his branch of the Ferraro family, Geno bears the weight of dual responsibilities on his broad shoulders. There’s nothing more important to Geno than protecting his territory and his famiglia. So when his own parents become the latest victims in a string of vicious murders, Geno is ready to go scorched earth. He thinks he has the assassin in his sights, but he’s unprepared for the firestorm their connection ignites….

Amaranthe Aubert’s lithe dancer’s body conceals a spine of steel. Even held captive and faced with the threat of lethal interrogation, she’s not about to cave under pressure. She had nothing to do with the murders, no matter what the ruthless man in front of her believes. But before Amara knows what’s happening, Geno connects to her in the shadows, stripping her bare of all artifice. Now, she has no way to hide her true reason for being in New York–and nowhere to run from the man who’s very presence steals the very breath from her lungs….

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Christine Feehan really has delivered on this series. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one here. But it was such a kick ass of a read. Loved seeing how these two just click together and its also has combination of tropes that worked so well for me.

Honorable Mentions

I wish I could express how much I adored all of these books and could have added them also in my top favorite and they are really all over the genres here. Definitely most swoony worthy reads that I can’t recommend enough if you haven’t read them!

You’ve had a great month! Mine was slow due to all I’ve been doing around the house. I’m hoping June is less busy and I can get more reading done.
