March 2023: Monthly Recap

by | Apr 3, 2023 | At A Glance | 7 comments

Can You believe the month of leprichans and four leaf clovers and the beginnings of spring is OVER??? I can’t. Where is the year going??? I feel like March just flew by. Well March was a interesting month. It was a month of pain but joy and celebrations. Some of you may know that I have had some bad dental pain this month so working on getting treatment for that and sometimes dentists don’t want to see you right away. So that did affect my reading quite a bit for the month as I didn’t quite make the numbers I want to but there is always hope for next month. But some of the joys in March? It was my BIRTHDAY and it was a wonderful one even if it was more relaxing but did get some fun family time so thats always a plus. But also its also a day I share with my nephew (and I even predicted it haha). But I also was able to do a trip to Vernal to see my sister and that was fun . For those that don’t know Utah, Vernal is about a 3 hour drive in the mountains from where I live in the Utah Valley. But it’s a beautiful drive actually especially with all the snow.

Acquisitions/Savings

So one of my goals for this year, is to track my acquisitions and see what I am saving through my subscriptions and such. So each month I will be sharing my month’s current savings. Now while part of me would love to purchase everything and keep all of it, and while I do have the money to buy books, its nice to save money when and where I can especially during a recession.

March Totals:

Total Spent: $32.27

Subscription Costs: Libraries, Audible Plus, Anyplay, KU: $28.98

Total Savings: $134.18

Reading Challenges

So, I am not participating in too many reading challenges this year. My focus for the year is the Goodreads (of course), Romanceopoly and a few of the reading challenges on Storygraph. Just simple ones. So below I will be sharing my reading progress with you on these every month.

Goodreads Reading Challenge

I am at 118 books out of 500 and I am 2 books behind. So far I am doing pretty good with this one but due to my pain issues, I got behind but planning on catching up shortly. Although my plans for April are going to be to read much more. As technically I would like to get closer to 600 but we shall see haha

Romanceopoly Reading Challenge-Under the Covers Book Blog

I am having a blast with this. I convinced a friend “Brianna” who also used to be a book blogger but is now a author, to do this with me. So, every Saturday night we roll together and its been so fun! So I have completed 52% of the challenge. I have been keeping up with the books that I plan on for this. So below I will share the books that I have read for this challenge. I actually didn’t do that many this month, I did get behind on my reads for Romanceopoly but plan on catching up in April!

WARNING: This is a dark romance. This book contains subject matter that may be sensitive for some readers, including rape, as well as strong language and explicit sex. 18+ only. Please read responsibly.

When Cora attends her sister’s birthday party, she expects at most a hangover or a walk of shame. She doesn’t anticipate a stolen wallet, leaving her stranded and dependent on Dean—her arch nemesis and ultimate thorn in her side.

And she really doesn’t anticipate waking up in shackles in a madman’s basement.

To make matters worse, Dean shares the space in his own set of chains.

After fifteen years of teasing, insults, and practical jokes, the ultimate joke seems to be on them. The two people who always thought they’d end up killing each other must now work together if they want to survive.

But Cora and Dean have no idea their abductor has a plan for them. A plan that will alter the course of their relationship, blur the line between hate and love, and shackle them together with far more than just chains.

I don’t know how to even explain my feelings for this book, it was everything beautiful! It definitely is dark and heartwrenching but their journey to healing from their abuse and trauma was so touching and the way that they connect through their abuse was worth it!!

Alend Ramses is not who he seems…

The first-ever Dark King, the most powerful vampire ruler in the world, was once the lowest of the low. A slave who became a Consort who became a King…he’s lived long enough to learn from his mistakes and never repeat them.

Or has he?

Eveline Marceau knows a lot…

The Pure Ones’ Seer and Scribe is an intellectual female with hidden depths, which no male across time has come close to uncovering. She is certain that Ramses is no different; she knows what she wants, and he is exactly opposite.

But she doesn’t know everything.

Their paths cross unexpectedly…

Pulled into the Dark Ones’ dizzying world of intrigue, violence and mayhem, the meek little “librarian” shows her steely backbone and holds her own. By all appearances, she is one of the Dark King’s possessions, a symbol and portent for a potential future as tensions between the Dark Ones and their enemies run high.

Appearances can be deceiving.

Can Eveline work with Ramses to steer Destiny in the right direction, or will history once again repeat itself toward a bloody, oppressive end?

This book was AWESOME CAKE! haha Its sensual, captivating, and endearing! I couldn’t get through it fast enough yet…I wanted it to slow down just to indulge into it more. I loved the way that these two fall in love and learn to fight for each other. And it had such a great match up and the character growth especially from the heroine is EPIC! If you aren’t reading this author yet…..GET YOUR BOOTY IN GEAR! I PROMISE YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE LIKE I HAVE.

Don’t you just hate it when someone destroys all your carefully made plans?

I mean, I had goals: college to graduate in one semester, a future I was working hard to reach, and an image of myself I wanted the world to see. My life was stacked into these precisely placed blocks. But then Colton Gamble came along and knocked them all askew.

I hated how he messed everything up, how he could hog all my attention whenever he was around, how he made my pulse quicken—but only because he ticked me off…not because I was attracted to him. Oh! And I hated how he knew how attractive he was too, the shallow, full of himself, doesn’t take no for an answer, too flirty, too cocky, extremely irritating jerk.

The boy had all the qualities that turned me off. Or so I thought.

One night he wasn’t quite the brainless, overconfident jerk I assumed he always was.
One night, he took care of me when I was at my lowest. He opened up to me and made me open up to him.

Now I’m learning maybe he’s not what I first thought he was. And maybe I’M not what I first thought I was. Maybe it’s okay to rearrange a couple of my perfectly set blocks. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll stop worrying about what I’m afraid everyone else will think and finally reach for something I really want. It’s possible some of my plans need to be destroyed, and Colton Gamble is exactly the kind of mess I need in my life.

What do you think? Should I give him a try?

Desperately seeking your advice,

Julianna Radcliffe

One of the best diverse romances I have ever read! This is an interracial romance and it was so beautifully written. Linda Kage really upped her game with this one in showing how racism is viewed especially towards mixed race couples on both sides of the spectrum which I really appreciated it without it getting political or agenda pushing. You could see the genuine touches in this book and how this couple is meant for each other.

Honorable Mentions

I wish I could express how much I adored all of these books and could have added them also in my top favorite and they are really all over the genres here. Definitely most swoony worthy reads that I can’t recommend enough if you haven’t read them!

Even with the tooth troubles, you still did an incredible job on your reading numbers and challenges. Fun that you got to go visit your sister and share a birthday with your nephew. Hopefully, the dentists will take care of that tooth for you and you’ll have a great April.
