About The Book

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn, comes a fresh take on a royal romance with a twist. Laugh out loud funny and full of some of her steamiest scenes yet, Quinn takes you on an unexpected, sizzling fairytale journey.

So there I was selling bikinis out of my truck in South Beach Miami, getting ready to kick off a wet t-shirt contest when the world’s biggest grouch approached me – Keller Fitzwilliam.

The man had the sultriest British accent I’ve ever heard. And he looked like he just walked off a Viking boat and into a suit tailored specifically for his impressively muscular frame. Only problem is, he had the warmth of an ice pick and he kept telling me he was here to take me back to his home country.

Of course, I didn’t follow him. I might be up for a good time, but I’m also educated enough to know leaving with a stranger isn’t smart. Well, that’s until he mentioned my mom’s name. My mom who passed away several years ago.

So after some serious fact-checking, my bikini-clad bum went with him to a sub-arctic country I had never heard of just north of the British Isles, where I found out my grandpa was the king of said freezing country, and I was the one and only heir.

Desperate to learn more about my mom, I decided to give this princess thing a chance.

Good idea, right? Wrong.

Because Mr. Ice Pick was put to the task of training me and he’s not just cold as ice, he’s pompous, aggravating, and possessive. And did I mention we have to share a bathroom in a tiny castle?

We are oil and water every single day and even though he’s training me to be queen, I have this simmering desire to kneel before him.

Dear God. Keller isn’t just a grump. He’s a sexy, dirty grump . . . the best kind.

My Review

First Impressions

Royally Not Ready is the most recent standalone from Meghan Quinn. This book has been raved about and even though I have her massive backlist to work through, I couldn’t resist grabbing this one up and I am so happy that I did. This was such a perfect romantic comedy, it had everything I needed in one while also delivering the feels, heart, and deep emotion. What keeps constantly impressing me about her writing is how well-balanced her books are and they aren’t all just light and fluff. If you need a good laugh, this is a solid book to pick up. This is also a “Princess Diaries” retelling of sorts and you mix that in with a grumpy sunshine opposites attract romance, and you know you are in for a delightful time. I was really intrigued by this book and most especially how much STEAM is in this book, I honestly wasn’t expecting our hero to be so dominant, haha but I loved it so much because it’s not heavy so I think even readers are not big into BDSM will find this book highly intriguing in how the smexy times are done.

And even though I’m in this to find my soul, like Keller pointed out, I can’t help but feel like bringing Keller joy is something I was meant to do.

Summary

Keller Fitzwilliam is the secretary to the King but is also a member of the family in a way. The king and his Queen took the place of his parents and offered him love and acceptance and he would do anything for the Crown. With the King ill, he is charged with finding his long-lost granddaughter, who is his only apparent heir to the throne. So Keller heads off to Miami to find Lilly Campbell. Lilly Campbell is a bright and spirited young woman, who embraces the “fun” side of life. Even though she lost her parents at a young age, she doesn’t let that deter her from enjoying life to the fullest, and then broody sexy Keller walks into her life and delivers news that shocks her to the core, she is a royal princess? She can barely believe that it’s true, but she is curious about Torskethorpe, and wants to find out more about this long-lost family she never knew that she had. But when Keller starts training her into being a princess and learning of her heritage and history of her family, she finds something she never expected to find …..home, fulfillment, and an intense love!

Yes. I want you to continue to stroke my heart. Stare into your eyes. Feel your comforting warmth. Get lost in it. I want to replicate that embrace, but in your bed, our limbs tangled together.

What I Loved

There is so much to love about this story and I honestly had so much fun with this book. It was beyond perfection and I honestly think this is the BEST book this author has written, at least out of the one’s that I have read so far. There was something so delectable about this retelling of Princess Diaries with a dash of My Fair Lady and a sprinkle of dust of Fifty Shades. It actually comes together really well and it had me entertained from beginning to end. I adored both characters so immensely. They are complete opposites though which made for some unique entanglements. Keller is so broody and serious all the time and never has fun, it’s only responsibility and being a protector. Then we have our heroine who is playful and fun and boy does she like to play with Keller. It delivers in all the laughs in seeing these two work in adapting to each other. But then comes the chemistry and it was so “chef’s kiss”. The type of kink that we are introduced to is control in the bedroom. Which is actually the kink I love the most if there are going to be any BDSM elements. But it’s light, maybe a slight tying up and some spanking. It’s not super heavy in BDSM. I was intrigued in seeing the way that these two would find their HEA. The only real conflict in the story is the hero, but honestly, even after some of the mistakes he made, it didn’t deter me from my enjoyment in the story at all. I absolutely loved some of the side characters we get with Lara and the grandparents. The way that they are so encouraging of Lilly and Keller and way supportive of their romance was the kicker. I adored how they wanted them together. There is so much character growth in this one while also delivering in all the hearts and feels.

I keep feeling as if this is what I was supposed to do. I feel like I belong here, like that piece of me that’s been missing all this time has been found.”

What I Struggled With

Some of the actions of the hero might put some readers off towards the end (it didn’t bother me as I expected that 3rd act conflict but it was realistic) and it didn’t deter my true love of this romance.

That connection is unbreakable, Keller. Nothing is going to get between us, and nothing is going to hurt us. It’s you and me, together in this world

Overall View

Royally Not Ready was a lively packed romance that brought together some beautiful factors with a perfect touch of humor to really deliver in such a riveting, deep-in-the-feels romance!

I’ve never felt a love as fierce or powerful as for the woman who captured my heart. I wanted to express the devotion I have for her through art.

Steam Level

Simmering—soft warm touches and light intimacy

Warm- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.

Steamin’ up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.

Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

About The Author

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn’t take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn’t until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven’t turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

The old third act breakup. Why is that such a big thing in romances? I am not surprised this was fun. I mean, it’s Quinn. Glad you enjoyed this book.

I started a Meghan Quinn audio and had to switch out because it wasn’t my thing. Maybe I picked up the wrong book or just wasn’t in the mood for it. I should look into this one. Glad to hear you loved it!
