Years ago, Miss Esme Astell fell hopelessly in love with Charles Brittle, an unassuming and highly respectable London bookmaker. Then he disappeared without a word. The last thing Esme ever dreamed was to meet Charlie again —In a dark alleyway —In a drenching rain —In a chase with the police —In Scotland. Can she resist falling again, this time for the dangerous scoundrel he’s become?

In the Pirate and I, we have a short yet sweet novella that Katharine Ashe brings to us. I haven’t had a chance to pick this author up lately, but when I saw the title, I just knew I had to grab this one up, I just can’t resist those sexy “pirates” .  Now I will say that while I enjoyed this novella quite a bit, I did feel a little loss at times. Maybe if I had read the previous books in the series it might have made a bit more sense. However I did enjoy seeing these two people that once were friends and close to each other, find one another again although a bit differently. Our hero, disappeared for two years, being forced to work on a ship as a pirate, and then reappers needing help so he can disappear for good. I liked seeing these two connect again, and their interactions were quite entertaining. The heroine is spirited, driven and sweet natured. I love seeing how she wants to pursue her own dreams. There are some adventures, sneaky characters that you fall in love with, and a charming dog to add a nice touch to a sweet yet sexy romance. Katharine Ashe delivers a wonderful and endearing love tale with The Pirate and I!!

  1. I’ve read a couple of her books and have liked them so I’ll check this out. And I haven’t read a pirate story in a while anyway. lol

  2. I haven’t read Katharine Ashe but I do want to look into her books. I’m glad you enjoyed this novella, but I will remember to read the other books in the series first. I’m actually not super into pirates, but I don’t dislike them either.

  3. I have only read My Lady, My Lord by Katharine Ashe but I definitely want to check out this series.

  4. I need to read something by this author too! When I first saw the cover for this one I though it was more of a contemporary set with a wedding and all lol! Sounds like it was a good read. I’m curious about some of those side characters! 🙂
    Great review!
