Weekly Recap (Week 46) Red White and Blue

by | Nov 13, 2022 | Sunday Post | 9 comments

This was a week of focusing on doing our civil duty as it was mid-term voting (this is more important than general elections, as these determine the local elections and ones that effect us more than general elections do) but as well as it was celebrating Veteran’s Day. We still don’t know the outcome of the voting results, as apparently some states can’t get counting ballots together haha I am sorry but it should NEVER take this long to count votes. Are we in medieval times or something? haha, Maybe one day these states will get their act together and figure out how to gather the votes in 24 hours. What I am glad about though is appears that both sides won some and lost some. Which is how I feel it should be. It shouldn’t be one side getting it all. I hope everyone that lives in the states, was able to go out and vote (no matter which side you affiliate with or if you are middle of the road, take advantage of this civic duty that so many people in the world aren’t able to, we are blessed to live in a democratic republic)! Then over the weekend, we got to celebrate Veteran’s day. This is where we celebrate the sacrifice that veterans and their family sacrifice to ensure our freedoms. Definitely had me feeling grateful for living in this country despite how divided we have become as a people.

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week November 6th through November 12th

This was such a wonderful week of reading, I read 12 books in total. 3 Audiobooks and 9 eBooks! It was a great week of reading and really picked up some good ones here! Considering all the voting stuff I watched this week and the holiday weekend, I was a voracious reader this week! My Top Picks for the week are Savage Lands, Three Wishes and In His Keeping!

(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads, I have linked for you)

Book Read-Trojan Crown by Eleanor Aldrick-Rating 4 Stars–I absolutely had such a fun time with this one. I really liked how this was a bit more slower burn than book one. It was a single father/nanny type of romance and I really enjoyed it. Such a great dynamic. Not a fan of the daddy kink, but her steam is very well done.

Book Read-Door Bruises by Sierra Simone-Rating 3 Stars–I was really disappointed with the finale of the series. I have really loved these books, but I really need to keep in mind that her endings are unconventional HEA’s. The ending really ruined the book for me and also I wish Poe had a bigger role in the story. I feel like her role was so not satisfying. I mean their relationship is about a menage. But I felt the focus was more on the M/M relationship between the two men. I think moving forward I am going to read endings of the books this author writes, just so I am prepared for them as they aren’t your typical HEA’s (which is what I prefer).

Book Listened-The Hero by Donna Grant–Rating 4 Stars—This was such a win of a read. I really loved the setup of this one here. And it kicks off really exciting. This audiobook kept me at the edge of my seat, I really am so fascinated by this family. It has a second chance romance, with each brother being in the military and all black ops of sorts. While the serial arc was left with a bit of a cliffhanger so I am curious to see what we see happen in the rest of the series. And the narrator was so so good!

Book Read-B&E Ever After by Linda Kage–Rating 4 Stars–This was such a great read. It was a hansel and gretel fairy tale retelling. I have really loved this series, each installment is a more unique take on a retelling. I loved how this was a such a fun tale and its small connections to the fairy tale was so much FUN and the way that our hero and heroine just come together in this one was fabulous.

Book Listened-Huckleberry Spring by Jennifer Beckstrand—Rating 4 Stars— This was fabulous. I just had so much fun with this one. This is a story where the hero has a certain illness that he believes could cost him his life. Its a second chance and had all the feelings in it! If you like inspirational sweet romances, that is closed door, you definitely should check out these books!

Book Read-Crazy Wicked Love by Melissa Foster—Rating 4 Stars–Such a sexy military romance. If you are looking for a great Veteran’s read romance, then you should check this book out. Both hero and heroine are ex military and best friends and has a twist of unrequited love. Super fabulous!

Book Read-Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley—Rating 4.5 Stars—This was such a great book here! And one of my favorite books from this author. I just adore how she writes standalones. Its a contemporary romance with a small twist of magical elements. I loved the second chance and the levels of angst in this one here.

DNF Book Read-Let Me Free You by Alexandria House—Rating DNF–I was so sad to give up on this one here. But this one was super political, and just turned me off completely. When I say political I mean demeaning phrases toward certain figures in politics. This hadn’t happened in previous books so I also wasn’t expecting it either. I will still read older books by this author but just had to set this one aside.

ARC Book Read-Antonio by D.B. Reynolds—Rating 3 Stars—This wasn’t my favorite installment in the series but I still enjoyed it a bit. It just took a while before the couple even met so there wasn’t much page time. But still a fun unique take with a heroine that is an assassin.

Book Read-Savage Lands by Stacey Marie Brown—Rating 5 Stars–I absolutely adored this one. It was so addictive and compelling. The world building was superb. It was a urban fantasy romance setting set in Budapest. I found it so fascinating. While it did end with a cliffhanger, I am excited to delve into this series and get more out of this epic love tale.

Book Read-Crazed by Maggie Cole—Rating 4 Stars—This book was so brilliant and sexy and fun. It really evoked some powerful emotions and enjoyed seeing these two overcome those challenges together.

Book Read-In His Keeping by Maya Banks—Rating 4.5 Stars—I just ADORED this book. I read this one in audio and it was so wonderful. I just loved seeing this book grow and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It is a bodyguard type of romance and so well done. I really love the mix of suspense with a dash of paranormal.

Current Reads

My Current Audiobook is “Red on the River” by Christine Feehan. I chose this one in audiobook, because the 1st book was so SLOW. Which shocked me because Feehan is normally so engaging, but this is the first time she has written some romantic thrillers, which is different than anything she has ever written. But I am intrigued by Red on the River though. I am currently reading Fairtale Come Alive by KA. This was a hold that I have had for a few weeks and I heard its amazing. Then I will be grabbing up another Rina Kent. And then moving forward with a Stacey Marie Brown, I am very excited to see what happens in this one. Then with some darker reads, I know I will need something light to balance it all with the Emma Hart novel. The cover is so flirty. I love it.

Book Releases I am Excited For

God Of Wrath by Rina Kent

Untying The Knot by Meghan Quinn

Villain I’d Like To F….Anthology

How The Grump Saved Christmas by Claire Kingsley

My Weekly TBR

These are books that I have a rough TBR for, I normally don’t like a super strict TBR as I tend to be a mood reader, so I might get to these books but depending on my mood, I might not get to all of them, I have a blend of library reads, some KU and an ARC. I have some exciting books here that I am really looking forward to here. I did recently discover that Anna Hackett got released and I have loved this series. I have some autumn and winter reads to delve into that are a part of my COYER challenge, and then working on some authors I have been meaning to get back to.

Very wise thoughts about the election.

Wow! I’m in awe at how many books you read this week. The most I’ve read in a week is 3 and that’s not usual for me at all. I’m also very slow.

I hope you have a great week! 😀

I don’t think that I have missed voting in any election for well over 20 years. My dad told me that I couldn’t complain if I didn’t vote and I know that I will find something that I might want to complain about. It amazes me how many people don’t vote regularly. You had an amazing reading week! I hope that you are having a great week.

Looks like you had some good reads going on.
I actually don’t mind if it takes time for votes to be counted. I think it shows that they’re truly trying to make sure everything is done properly. My state is all mail in ballots and I’m sure it takes time to make sure all of those are in and correctly accounted for.
