Weekly Recap (Week 44) All Hallows Eve

by | Oct 30, 2022 | Sunday Post | 12 comments

This week has been a solid one, work was steady but uneventful if I am being honest, which makes for the BEST weeks. My reading was super solid with 12 books read (but I was so disappointed with the Elsie Silver and Sherrilyn Kenyon books so those made me sad) and that’s with still watching a good amount of movies this week, I wanted to catch up on the Passionflix releases and some spooky films. But I did veer a bit away from my TBR from last week, I got hooked into Rina Kent and now I am immersing myself into her backlist without putting myself in a book slump haha But this weekend I am reading and delving as much of the spooky reads as I can though. I preordered the new kindle, I would order yours soon, I probably won’t get mine till close to Christmas haha and that if it doesn’t get delayed, I have never preordered anything from Amazon that is a new release like this. I did find my website’s font, finally! So it was a happy week. I am excited for today and tomorrow to have some Halloween treats, homemade pie and fancy non alcoholic drinks and read some gothic/spooky reads!

Bookish Posts and Books Read of Week October 23rd through October 29th

(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads, I have linked for you)

Book Read-Pure Ecstasy by Aja James-4.5 Stars—I absolutely adored this book and it’s one of my favorites of the series. This had a heroine I didn’t expect to want to cheer for and the most delectable hero that is “book boyfriend” material. And the world-building was superb in every way. If you love PNR, this is a MUST-read author.

Book DNF’d-At Death’s Door by Sherrilyn Kenyon–This book was confusing haha I definitely feel like I was missing a lot, and I am not sure if it was the book or the narration but I just couldn’t focus on this one. I am planning on reading the first two books and then re-read this one in ebook form and see if it works better for me that way.

Book Read-Heartless by Elsie Silver-3.5 Stars—I wasn’t as impressed by this one as everyone else in the community seems to be haha the heroine drove me nuts. So yeah, it took away from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Book Listened-One Fine Fae by Molly Harper-4 Stars—This was such a FUN novella of this series, and I had so much fun with this one and yay we have our dragon baby that was born and man that was fun.

Book Read-God of Malice by Rina Kent—5 Stars—This book BLEW me away and I just wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. It totally shocked me, as in the past, Rina Kent just hasn’t surprised me that much, but this one was amazing. But it’s a dark romance, so keep that in mind.

Book Listened-Wild Cowboy Ways by Carolyn Brown-3.5 Stars—This story was solid and I really enjoyed it, I just wasn’t able to focus on audiobooks as much this week. I am not sure why, I just wasn’t in the mood for them like normal. But I still enjoyed the story and love some sexy cowboys that this author writes, she is a queen for contemporary westerns.

Book Read-God of Pain by Rina Kent-5 Stars—This book hit me so hard on an emotional level. Those who have read this book, know exactly what killed me in this book, I didn’t expect it to be a tear-jerker, but it definitely was. Its been a while, so I was DUE for a good cry over a romance haha

Book Listened-A Little Too Wild by Devney Perry-4.5 Stars–this book people was amazing!!! The best of the trilogy as far as I am concerned. I couldn’t put this audiobook down, and its been a long while since I just wanted to sit down and listen to an audiobook, that is how much I was into it. I just adored the romance and the story so much.

Book Read-A Contemporary Mythos Yuletide by Carly Spade—4 Stars—This was a quick and fun novella. I had a fun time seeing some of my favorite couples get together and enjoy the holiday together and we even get a snowman being built and a new Christmas love song being written. Simply delightful.

Book Read-The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert–3.5 Stars—This was so adorable and endearing! I just love the writing style of this author and how quickly I can delve into her books. Definitely a delightful read. I hate the new cover so I put the old one up.

Book Read-Cruel King by Rina Kent—4.5 Stars—This was AMAZING! This is the first book in the original series of the parents of the kids in the earlier books I read this week from this author. It’s a bully romance and one of the best that I have ever read!

Book Read-Zeus by Carly Spade-4 Stars—This was so wonderful and had plenty of feels. It was slower in the first half, which is why it didn’t make it to five star, although I was tempted to mark it as a 5 since the second half was superb in seeing Zeus finding his queen. His lightning abilities were amazing and his partner makes the best queen for Olympus. I am really curious to see where this author will be taking this series.

Current Reads

My Current Audiobook is Desire the Night by Amanda Ashley, and I am super excited for this one here. I just love how atmospheric the spooky vibes are for Amanda Ashley so I am curious to see how it will be in audio. Then for Monday, my plans are to read Dark Affair and Gothikana as they are both Gothic romances and feel like they will be perfect for Halloween. I am not sure if I will read Lotus Palace first or Deviant King, we shall see what my mood is haha And due to my binging of some of Rina Kent, I wasn’t able to get to the Jeannie Lin novel, but I want to get to this one on as soon as my Halloween reads are done and isn’t the cover so pretty? I love it.

Book Releases I am Excited For

Nobody Cares Unless You’re Pretty by Lani Lynn Vale

Second Chance Mine by M Robinson

Resting Witch Face by Juliette Cross

Mine to Love by Natasha Madison

More Than Desire You by Shayla Black

My Weekly TBR

These are books that I have a rough TBR for, I normally don’t like a super strict TBR as I tend to be a mood reader, so I might get to these books but depending on my mood, I might not get to all of them, I have a mix of library reads and series I am working on. We have some new adult, military romance, a dark forbidden romance, a gothic tale, some Amish lovin’, and a fairytale retelling. I am in for a good week of reading, if I can get to all of them haha we shall see!

Favorite Book of the Week

This book was one of the BEST dark romances I have read in a long while, it just was everything I have wanted to see in this author and I now I am HOOKED on her stuff.

Always awesome to find a new author to devour. I have found that not every book works for me in audio. It’s a probably a good idea to give the Kenyon book another try in a different format (especially if you have enjoyed her books in the past)

Wow! You did accomplish a lot this week! I can’t even imagine reading 12 books in a week. I’ve never read that many in a month. (I’m a slow reader.) I hope you enjoy your spooky reads. I still haven’t done any spooky reads. I hope you have a good Halloween and week.

I love quiet weeks! I want more of them. This weekend was supposed to be quiet and then we had kind of a home disaster last night with a trash fire. It went up super fast (very scary!) and I got a chemical burn on my face and eyes. Such a nightmare. We were up late. Fire dept., medics, PG& E. The whole nine yards. Thankfully we’re somewhat back to normal now.

Hope you enjoy Catherine Cowles! I enjoyed her.

I’m sad Heartless didn’t work for you like I hoped it would. I guess we can’t all love all of the same books. 😉 I hope I enjoy A Little Too Wild as much as you did. Happy Halloween!

Glad you had a nice quiet week and were able to relax with several books and movies. Bummer the Kenyon didn’t work for you- at least not in that format, but maybe it was a mood thing. Yay for finding a new author/series to love.

    Have a great Halloween, Renee!
