Weekly Recap (Week 32) Fun times in Vernal

Happenings of Week 32 of 2022

So can you believe that we are in August already!!! We are not officially chugging along in the second part of the year and the last six weeks of Summertime. This summer has gone by so quickly, although I stay inside most of the time (as I suffer easily from heat stroke) so I don’t get to enjoy the season much unless its early morning (which is my favorite time of the day in the summer) This week was a fun one, even if it felt like a bit of a slower week. I was able to take the weekend to go to my sisters home in Vernal, and get to play with my nephews and their chickens and ducks haha. It was nice though to get away from the city, But it does mean my reading week was a bit slower, but it was still a fun one though. I also got to go to the farmer’s market and get some fresh produce and support local farms. Here in Utah, our farmer’s markets are only open from the summer to October, so I try to take advantage of it while I can. But I also discovered a new fantasy author to love—-Jeffe Kennedy. I am not sure why I haven’t read this author before, but I devoured the “Twelve Kingdoms” trilogy, I just couldn’t get enough of it. This is the type of fantasy I love to read, so I am definitely excited to explore through her backlist.

Bookish Posts & Books Read of Week July 31st through August 6th

(All my books read and their reviews are on Goodreads)

Surrendering To Hunt by Jennifer Ryan-I had so much with this book, it had such a unique set up that I really enjoy in small town romances. The hero is a sexy cop who loves to serve and protect. Then the heroine likes to have adventure and is a bit wild. They are so great together, they really balance each other out, and it has the poignant small moments that will bring a deep level of emotion to the reader.

Always You by Samantha Young-This is the third book of the Adair family and is Arro’s book (the only girl in the family), but it also is an age gap romance with unrequited love. This book completely was so captivating. I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was so fascinating to see how these two find their way together as they deserve. The heroine has been in love with the hero for years, but he doesn’t feel like he is worthy of her and is also 13 years older than her. But there is also a stalker after Arro, and the badass protector comes out fierce with Mac. I adored seeing them two come together and how supportive their family is and the bantering is top-notch, it had me laughing all over the place!

The Talon of the Hawk by Jeffe Kennedy– I adored this book so much!!! It might be my favorite of the three books. This is the oldest sister, Ursula. She is also the one who has had it the most rough by their father, he has practically forced her to become his heir and abuses her into being as close to manly as he can make her into. But this book is where we see Ursula really come into her own, realize how false her loyalty to her father is, and find her own strength and destiny as queen. Loved her character growth and she falls for this sexy mercenary who stands up to her, fights her to make sure she takes care of herself and loves her so deeply.

The Tears of the Rose by Jeffe Kennedy-This is the baby sister’s book, Amelia, who is the beauty of the three. She is also the most beloved in their father’s eyes. She is a new widow, and she ends up with a scarred healer who is part of a spiritual tribe. I struggled with this one a bit, the heroine just lets grief turn her into a brat and spoiled princess instead of the kind and loving woman she was before. But we also see how she becomes stronger than ever.

The Mark of the Tala by Jeffe Kennedy-I absolutely adored this book. It has a mix of fated love with marriage of convenience and forbidden love. This is the first book that is about three sisters. This is Andi’s book, she is the middle sister and has the magic powers of her mother. But she tends to be the forgotten daught of the king and not liked by anyone other than her two sisters. This has such a sexy romance, I love the intensity of it and the hero is such a badass alpha king.

To Conquer a Highlander by Mary Wine-I had a fun time with this historical, not my favorite Mary Wine, but it was quite fun and some sexy angst. It has a fun kidnapping set up. The heroine’s father has a evil plot against the king, but also abuses his daughter. The hero is the laird of the neighboring clan, and kidnaps her to put a stop to the plot again the king. And sparks fly between these two, it definitely was quite entertaining and diversive.

Top 100 Historical Romance I Recommend (Part 2)

Weekly Recap (Week 31)

Current Reads

My current Audiobook is Beauty and the Baller by Ilsa Madden-Mills. I have had this one on my list for a while, and its been a while since I have read a light romance. I am loving the “Star Wars” theme mixed with football and fun angst bantering. My current ebook and ARC is Dark Whisper, I was debating if I wanted to pick this one up so soon, but I am in the mood for alpha males and paranormal, so going to try this one out. I am so curious to see this latest curve in the serial plot of this series that we saw in Dark Tarot (thank you Berkley for the ARC). I have my hold on the Bromberg book expiring in a few days and I have been wanting to explore her contemporaries more. And my next audio is going to be this Jenn Bennett. I have really been in the mood for a good mystery.

Book Releases I Am Excited For

Chosen by a Sinner by Michelle Heard

Storm Echo by Nalini Singh ( I adored this one, so excited to see what you all think of it)

Ruthless by Gena Showalter

Royally Not Ready by Meghan Quinn

The Make Out Artist by Sara Ney

My Weekly TBR

These are books that I have a rough TBR for! I am not sure if I will be in the mood for them all, but they all are different sub-genres so I do hope to get to them all if my mood works with me on this! I do think it’s good to have a loose TBR even though at times I tend to be a mood reader! I am trying to work towards going half and half so I have more balance in my reading! I have a new release in the Michelle Heard, and a fun BDSM and a new adult romance.

Favorite Book of the Week

I fell so much in LOVE with this book here! It was so emotional and real and vibrant and had me all over the place with emotions! I couldn’t put down the audiobook either.

It has to be tough living in Utah if the heat gets to you. It’s hot out there. I can’t wait for summer to be over. I hate it. I hate winter too though. I hope you are enjoying Beauty and the Baller. I though it was wonderful.

I loved Beauty and the Baller, and Bitter Spirits! Hope you do, too! I’m thinking of grabbing the Christine Feehan book. I read one by her and wasn’t super impressed but I’m thinking I should give her a 2nd try. I’m so over the summer. Stay cool, Renee!

Hooray for the visit with your sister. And I love browsing farmers markets. Summer is actually my least favorite season. I do not tolerate the heat well, I don’t enjoy the heat or humidity. I’m a Floridian who constantly wishes for cold. LOL How great to discover a new author to enjoy!

Fun that you got to go visit your sister in Vernal. I’ve been there for the Field House Museum and camped nearby a few times or passed through on the way to Flaming Gorge. Hope it was a fun, restful visit. I’m not a heat person either so I empathize there.
I enjoyed Bitter Spirits a while back so hope its good for you, too.

    Have a good week, Renee!
