Tea and Biscuits Book Discussions: Shape Shifters and Top Picks

What is not to love about those sexy shifters that can shape shift in a various form of animals and/or creatures. Below are some of my top picks.

The Leopard People by Christine Feehan

In this series that Feehan has created, is a powerful and highly sensual series of leopard shifters. I have pretty much enjoyed all of the books in this series, although the first few books are by far my favorite. They seem to have more emotional depth than the latest releases have. But I love what Feehan has done with the set up of the series. In the world that she has created we see a group of people that are very low in numbers, and in each book we have a group of men who have befriends one another and set up a small friendship and community and aid each other when needed. I love it so much, although I will warn you the sex scenes are scorching hot…probably her most hottest books she has written.

Psy-Changeling by Nalini Singh

If I were to pick any series that would be my top pick…this would top them all!! What Nalini Singh has done with this series is so different from any other shape shifter books I have read. She has set up a intense and beautiful world of changelings. We see the intricate politics of these changeling packs, the balance of various strengths and the unique love matches we see happen that are by far some of the most memorable ones.

Heart of the Wolf by Terry Spear

This was one of the first shape shifter series I ever read, and even though the most latest releases aren’t my favorites….the majority of the series is AMAZING!! Terry Spear is a wonderful author, and writes in a very compelling manor. I love what she has done with these wolves. We see many different types of packs invovled in these books. SEALS, Scottish Highlands and some set along the Western Coast of the U.S.

Alpha Pack by J.D. Tyler

Oh boy…these boys are sexy as all get out!! They are part of a military special ops team, that on a dangerous mission a few of them were killed, but they soon discovered shortly after that they have unique abilities to shape shift. And along the way they build allies with other creatures. Their mission is to help protect human lives from creatures that are dangerous. These are fantastic. Whether you read them in printed form or Audiobook (which the narrator is superb so if you love narration….you have to try these books in the narrated format).

Shifters Unbound by Jennifer Ashley

Jennifer Ashley is a wonderful author to read. I first fell in love with her historical’s. But when I discovered the first book when it first was released, I fell in love with what she has done with these shape shifters. My favorite book though is Tiger Magic—-there is something quite special about that story and Tiger or tigger as some of the cubs like to call him. First off the writing is so wonderful, and the world building in this series is so thrilling and full of sexy fun with engaging characters.

Gods of the Night by Nina Bangs

I don’t know of many that have read this series, and so I wanted to give a shout out to these three books especially. I do hope one day the author plans on continuing the series. What is unique about this trilogy is based on creatures that I have never seen another author write. DINOSAURS….yeah you all heard me the first time. Ancient creature that died a millenia ago…well they have returned in this series and you definitely don’t want to miss out on it.

DragonFury by Coreen Callahan

In this series we have some sexy dragons who can kick ass. In this series they are currently fighting a dangerous enemy who are high in numbers and are lethal and only wish to conquer and destroy. I have only read these in audio format, and they are wonderful. Each dragon hero we see in each book….is so swoon worthy and make the best mates. I love what they are willing to do for the women they love and to fight a battle that seems unwinable at times but they do it because its the right thing.

Cornerstone Run Trilogy by Kelly Meade

This trilogy I discovered from a blogger friend’s recommendation and she was so right for me to pick these books up. Writing is fabulous, with some great plot lines.

New Species by Laurann Dohner

The moment I discovered this series I fell in love with each book. I love the set up of the series, and even though it has some similiarities to Lora Leigh’s Breeds….there is something about these books I enjoy way more. I do enjoy the breeds, but this series is different and fun and has great love stories that happen. Even though it is quite heated, it has great emotional intimacy and that is what makes this series amazing to read.

Darkness Chosen by Christina Dodd

This is another series I don’t think many know much about. Christina Dodd has written in different genres of romance, but this is where she succeeded in the PNR department. This series is based on the Wilder Family, that must find a way to break a curse their ancestor made. This family rocks…and I love how close knit they are.

Dirk and Steele by Marjorie M. Liu

This is a series I read ages ago, and what is most unique about these books…is the variety of shape shifters that come out. Lions, wolves, dolphins, owls, cheetahs, powerful pschics and others. This series is based on a secret agency, that seeks out to protect as many lives as possible from evil.

Oh, I do love this topic. I find shifter romances to be some of my favorites. They can be aggressive, protective and many times there is a sense of family and togetherness to them.

I’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s out there. I’ve read one each of Jennifer Ashley and Terry Spear’s. But yay, I am further in with JD Tyler’s and I finished the Cornerstone Trio. I have several of the Marjorie Liu and Nalini Singh series so those will be soon-ish to read. I’m working through Eileen Wilks’ The World of the Lupi right now.

I’ve enjoyed both Paige Tyler’s latest shifter series- XOps and SWAT. Mell Eight’s Supernatural Consultant series with the dragon family has been almost cute, Patricia Briggs’ series both have been favorities. I’ve giggled through several of Eve Langlais’ shifter series. Of course, I love Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series with Curran and the rest of the shifters. Kresley Cole’s IAD shifters are great, too. So many. 😉

*hangs head* I need to read all of these. I’ve been slacking in the shifter department lately.

I’m not sure into shifter stories, but I have read some of Molly Harper’s books with werewolves and really enjoyed those. I am curious about Nalini Singh’s books because I love her Rock Kiss books so much.

I like shapeshifters, but haven’t been up on some of the newer series featuring them. Of course, I adore the Psy-Changeling books. I also like the Kate Daniels series, Pamela Palmer’s Feral Warriors series, and Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark books. I’m intrigued by the Christina Dodd and J.D. Tyler series.
