Tea and Biscuits Book Discussions: Books To Read For Independence Day

by | Jul 3, 2017 | Tea and Biscuits Discussions | 6 comments

So in honor of Independence Day, I wanted to share the best romances to read during the time period where the thirteen colonies found their independence and created what is now the United States of America. So below I have listed some of the best books to read of this time period, where we see courageous men and women fight for their freedoms. I will say that I would love it if more authors were to explore this time period and setting—it is just perfect for a good romance. There is just not enough of these books to satisfy me at all. I love seeing the courage, determination and strength and the lengths these people went to so they could live seperate and freely from the British Empire. These brave men and women accomplished a feat that many other people were unable to do in this era.

Love Thine Enemy by Louise M. Gouge

This is a story that revolves around two people that live in the south, in Florida and believe that the war can’t touch them. But all of their beliefs are changed with the tide of the war, our hero and heroine are on opposite sides. One in support of the British and the other in support of the Patriots. This is a lovely story of spies and romance and inspirational love. Highly recommend.

The Forbidden Lady by Kerrelyn Sparks

In this wonderful historical novel of Sparks, which is set in the time of the Revolutionary War. Its a lovely spy romance that deals with the conflict between the Tory’s and the Patriots.  We see some fancy gadgets, charming characters, and with typical Kerrelyn Sparks flair, a book that keeps you on your toes.

Captured Dreams by May McGoldrick

This is such a wonderful book, and May McGoldrick stuns us with a powerful and captivating romance of fighting for liberty and for what you believe in and finding love when you least expect it. With some fun times of smuggling for the Patriots, Nautical themes and characters that go after what they believe in and fight for it.

Love Not A Rebel by Heather Graham

There is much about Heather Graham that I love, but the way she writes a historical romance is epic!! And she delivers a book that is obvious she does her research and makes history come alive for her readers, and Love Not A Rebel will do that for you. I love all the intrigue, the work of secrets and spies, involvement of George Washington, and a Marriage of Convenience trope. Simply fantastic.

Chase The Dawn by Jane Feather

This is a wonderful story with a heroine who has lost her memory, a hero who is a patriot, and both get caught up in the conflict of war and deception. This is definitely a classic historical romance that I loved when I read it, and highly recommend it.

The Rebel and the Redcoat by Karyn Monk

This wonderful romance is a story of our lovely heroine who saves a man who is injured,  a man that risked his life to save hers. But he is a British soldier, an enemy, but she could never betray him. There is quite a bit that goes on in this book, but we see the conflict and the romance of the time, and love seeing these two find their way to each other after going through so much.

Rebel Enchantress by Leigh Greenwood

Rebel Enchantress is a fabulous book that Leigh Greenwood writes for us. I have always admired this man’s ability to write romances, and with this one he did a wonderful job. Its a story that deals with our hero who is a British merchant, and our heroine who is a servant and a spy. A very dynamic plot that keeps you up all night for sure.

Some of these sound great. I love war stories. I am currently reading a Civil War story. It has been a long time since I read a Revolutionary war story, I need to remedy that.

This made me stop and think. I’ve read several historical fiction, suspense, and mysteries set during the Revolutionary War, but no romances. I’ll have to fix that. 🙂 Great list, Renee, and Happy 4th!
