Tea and Biscuits Book Discussions: Bookish Resolutions for 2017

by | Jan 2, 2017 | Tea and Biscuits Discussions | 24 comments

As we begin with a new year, and I can hardly believe that its 2017 already and in many ways I am so relieved to put 2016 behind us and being anew. This is a time for many goals in ways to improve ourselves. I will say that my resolutions for last year. There were some things that I were able to accomplish, and some others that I didn’t get around to. Mostly because this past year was stressful, busy and not my best year. But this year I have high hopes for some projects I have planned, and ways to become a more kind person, become healthier and fitter and bring more to this blog and clean it up more and read more than I did last year.

Blogging/Bookish Goals

  • Transfer all reviews to UBB system. I am almost done with this and would like to get all my reviews transferred over fully.
  • Keep up on book release calendar for each month
  • Start on Character guides for favorite series. I got some inspiration for this from a fellow blogger, but I am going to tweak it a bit. And this will be series of all genres I have loved. These guides will be on characters, plot, settings on certain series. Some of which are: The Bridgertons-Julia Quinn, Argeneau-Lynsay Sands, Highlander Series by Karen Marie Moning, Carpathian-Christine Feehan, Malory Family by Johanna Lindsey and many more. But these will be the start and they will take time but I am really excited to work on these series guides.
  • Finish all of my reading challenge and read 300 books or more for my Goodreads challenge
  • Become more consistent in commenting and social media interaction
  • Start hosting more giveaways.

Personal Goals

  • Start eating more healthy (I have let this slide since coming to Texas, and want to get back on track)
  • Exercise 5-6 times a week using the BBG program
  • Keep up on my bullet journal
  • Do some road trips around Texas and explore my new home.
  • Explore the DFW area, and make an effort to try new things and make friends.
  • Become more involved in the community
  • Get an Emergency Savings set up, and get some emergency supplies set up. First Aid Kit, Water, and Food.
  • Get moved into a nicer apartment and get it fully furnished and decorated
  • Get back to my genealogy research
  • Find ways to look at life more positively: Start a gratitude page in bullet journal, do things on my own, go to the spa (never been before), and learn meditation and try to look at life with glass half full and learn not to stress or worry or I might die of a stroke soon (LOL)

Thanks Nick!!! I wanted to offer these character guides to other romance readers, especially if they want to know more about a series, especially bigger series they might feel overwhelmed about. And it will be fun reconnecting with my past favorites that I haven’t read in forever.

The character guides idea is freaking awesome! I will be watching out for those! Good luck with your goals and resolutions! πŸ™‚

I am also transferring the rest of my reviews to UBB. I actually deleted the older spotlight posts on books that I really didn’t have any interest in. This was way back when I started my book blog and I didn’t know what I was doing. haha

haha thanks Zeee!!! I am pretty excited for those, and be able to share it with the romance blogging community!! I will let you know when I have some up.

Yeah I really don’t care about posts other than my book reviews, since most of what I did on my other blog were just memes. And especially back then, 90% of my blog was book reviews. Which means a ton of work but I only have one year left.

Happy new year and good luck with your resolutions! The character guide thing sounds very cool, but also like it would take a lot of time. And wow 300 books?! That is a lot of books to read this year. Have fun exploring your new home, that sounds like a fun goal. I have a goal post scheduled for later this week :).

Thank you Lola!! I am pretty excited for the character guide. And yes it will take some time doing it, and quite a bit of re reading as well. But I am so ready to do something new and different.

I don’t do resolutions anymore – I choose a word to help guide me for the year (it’s on my blog if interested lol)

Good luck with all your resolutions! Have you met many bloggers in your new area? I know there are tons of YA bloggers there that all hang out but I don’t know of many romance readers.

    And Happy New Year!

That is so neat Karen!!! I really love the idea of focusing on one word. I haven’t met many, only Melissa from Lily’s Element. We live pretty close to each other. But I don’t read YA, so don’t have much in common with those bloggers but hopefully I will find some romance bloggers out there.

Happy New YEAR!!!! Bring it on 2017. Hope its a good year for you.

Thank you Quinn!!! I know its so hard to remember, but I only have a year left so I just want to get it done but it also makes me realize how much I read back then and boy was it a ton and I just HAD to review every book I read hehe. But yes I am super stoked for the character guides, it will take time and I am going to have to do quite a bit of re reading this year, but I am super stoked to do it as well. Will be fun to look deeper into my favorite series.

Happy (belated) New Year! Love the resolutions…it sounds like a year of getting organized and making positive changes for you. πŸ™‚ I always seem to jinx myself with resolutions, LOL! So for the 2nd year in a row I’m focusing on one word for the year (like Karen mentioned below!) and am thinking of using Mindfulness. Last year it was Persevere, as I was midways through cancer treatments and still had a ways to go. So I want to be mindful of my health, reducing stress, etc. We’ll see how it works.

oh thank you Michele!!! Its always a good thing to watch the health and stress. I had no idea you were going through cancer treatments, hope you are doing better. I know it can be rough, my grandpa went through 6 different types of cancer so my heart goes out to you. Hope 2017 is a GREAT year for ya.

Some great goals for the year, Renee! Mine will be up later this weekend but we share a couple in common. I’m doing more exploring of my town as well. I did my emergency kit/supplies end of 2016 and honestly it was such a relief to have that done and together. Made me feel all grown up, too! Ha! Hope you have a good time with them all πŸ™‚

Thanks Anna!!! I can’t wait to see your goals. That is awesome you did a emergency kit this past year. Ever since I got hooked on the show “Jericho” I have been itching to get some emergency supplies hehe I am all about being prepared. I know when I go back home for sure in August I will get the most of it in Utah. They are big about emergency preparedness so they have quite a few stores to grab up supplies pretty easily. Good luck with your resolution and hope you have a wonderful year in 2017

I enjoy seeing that you, too, have made bookish and personal resolutions for the new year, Renee. Good luck with them all! I’m astounded by your goal to read 300+ books. I read 153 in 2016 but set my goal lower for 2017. *ha* The character guides for series is a great idea but quite an undertaking. πŸ™‚ I also really like your personal goals of exploring your new home, etc. I moved to Colorado from Dallas although I’m originally from Lubbock. I’ve been here for 19 years though. Dallas has changed a great deal since I left. πŸ™‚ Anyway, I wish you luck in all your endeavors and all the best for 2017!

Well this past year my goal was 250, and I was pretty busy with school last year and moving to another state. So 300 isn’t that hard of a reach for me. Especially since a couple of years ago I read over 400 books. I usually try to read a book a day. But I am hoping I can make it.

It will be a challenge with these character guides but its very exciting too. I have never tackled anything like this before so I just can’t wait. Colorado is beautiful, but I am loving it here. Its different from living near the mountains though. I will say this though, Texas has some of the most beautiful skies I have ever seen. From what I have heard Dallas has made tons of changes over the past few years even. Although I am planning on living closer to Fort Worth. But I am excited to start doing some mini road trips to various parts of Texas, because from what I have been told there is a lot to see.
