Tea and Biscuits Book Discussions: Authors I am Thankful For

by | Nov 21, 2016 | Tea and Biscuits Discussions | 12 comments

As Thanksgiving comes closer, I wanted to dedicate this month to being grateful especially when it comes to reading and books. And quite frankly it was quite difficult to narrow this list as much as I have because there are so many amazing authors out there that have inspired us, or given us small moments of joy and laughter, or taken us on adventures we could never have in reality. These authors have made the largest impact on me.

Victoria Alexander

victoria-alexanderThis was one of the first authors I read and she got me hooked on the regency and victorian eras. Especially her earlier books, got me hooked. Many of her books have fun bantering, witty humor and depth in her love stories. I have really loved what she has done with many of her books. She has been writing since the late 90’s, and knows how to win over her readers. Now her recent books are as good as her backlisted ones, but still are fun to read.

Johanna Lindsey

johanna-lindseyThis is the QUEEN of Historical Romance, or one of many. Now, not all of her books are for everyone. She is very realistic in her historical’s. I do think her more recent books most readers would enjoy. Especially her Malory Series, they are awesome. But her backlisted books, are only for those that love a good angsty romance that is historically authentic. Which I love that so I LOVE this lady and her books. She was also one of the first authors I read in adult romance. I have quite a bit of admiration for this lady and she got me hooked on seeing a variety of settings and time periods for historical romance. Vikings, to Pirates, to the Russian Empire, to the medieval knights andΒ  to Sheikh romances, to the island of Hawaii and westerns and some fun regency’s. I love her books because they have taken me on so many adventures and fun smexy times.

Rosanne Bittner

rosanne-bittnerOh I have only had the opportunity to read a few of her books here, however the ones I have read have been incredible and some of the most enriching and romantic stories I have ever read. She does evoke tear jerker of a read, She does bring the historical “old west” to life in her books. She deals with cowboys, outlaws, and native americans. Her stories from what I have read so far, show all the “feels” of emotions and she is highly talented. I recommend her to any romance lover, because she is amazing. I have had some of the best reading experiences while reading her and have read quite a few romances in my time….but she tops the list!!!!

Lisa Kleypas

lisa-kleypasIsn’t this author so fun and I think she is such a classy lady and so talented. Each and every one of her books are simply wonderful!! And she has written some of the most heartwarming romantic reads. She has delved into both historical and contemporary romance. She has over 30 books, and has been writing since the mid 90’s. Her talent has always been wonderful from her first book “Midnight Angel” to her most latest release “Marrying Winterborne” and all the books inbetween have been fantastic. Some of my all time favorites are Blue Eyed Devil, Devil In Winter, Lady Sophia’s Lover and Tempt Me At Twilight. Her books are all witty, fun filled times, likable characters and romances that almost feel alive.

Jennifer Ryan

jennifer-ryanI recently got hooked on this author a couple of years ago and LOVE her books so much. She writes small town romances that are very heartfelt and real. I can’t put her books down, and her characters just call to me. She is a fairly newer author, at but she has become one of my favorites when it comes to the contemporary romance genre. I know she isn’t for everyone, because she doesn’t write lighthearted romances. They are deep and emotional and complex books but I just LOVE that. I love the characters that she writes that I just fall in love with.

Nalini Singh

nalini-singh-2Oh this lady I have so much love for in so many different ways!!! She is one of the most talented authors I have ever read. She is one of the select few authors that can cross fiction genders so easily and so well. She writes Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Contemporary Romance. Each one of her books I have had the opportunity to read have been FANTASTIC!! I don’t think I could say how much I love and adore this author or what her books have done for me in so many good delightful ways. Her books are quite fun, full of adventure and bantering that you can’t get enough of. She deals with complex characters and she always makes the romances fit perfectly. The relationships seem to flow flawlessly and that is true talent in a author.Β  Some of my all time favorites are Kiss of Snow, Slave To Sensation, Rock Hard and Declaration of Courtship

Julie Garwood

julie-garwoodWhat a author this is….now I have only read her historicals and I believe that I have read all of them!! And the narrators for her audiobooks are just right for the books too. I am not sure if that was up to her or the publishers, but if it was up to this author she has done great choosing the best for her works. I do love how well she writes these books. Now she is a rarity in historical romance. Her books can be read and loved by any romance lover and you will fall in love with her books,…I guarantee it. Now if you dont, I will bake you a pie. That is how much I know everyone will love her work especially if you like historical romance. She mostly deals with medieval’s and highlander themes, but she has done some in the regency era’s which are just as fabulous. Her books are witty and fun but not fluffy….they are real and are so well balanced.

Gayle Callen

gayle-callenThis is an author that I have come to love so much. Now I haven’t read much of her more recent releases as much as I would like to. I do highly recommend her backlist. They are so fantastic and quite full of adventure and sensuality. And man the humor….is just simply wonderful. She definitely knew what she was doing when she wrote these books. And I could list her whole backlist as my favorites for reading historical romance. That is how good they are. And those that have read them in the past probably know exactly what I am talking about. She has dealt with mostly regency and victorian era and has a few books in the medieval era too. She introduced me to espionage themed romances and got me hooked on that trope and now I can’t seem to get enough of it. love the mix of danger, mystery and romance.

Emma Cane

emma-caneOh her books are just fantastic!!! There is only one I wasn’t a fan of which came out last year and I just had a hard time getting into it in the beginning. But all of her other books, I couldn’t say enough about. She knows the small town culture and life style and portrays it so well in her books.Β  They are sweet and happy and so endearing. They always leave me with a smile on my face. I love how charming her books are and especially her Christmas reads are some of the best I have ever read. They always get me in the mood for those fun Christmas traditions and a sense of closeness and community.

Lorraine Heath

lorraine-heathoh man…this author is so amazing and wonderful!!! She was one of the very first authors that got me hooked on romance novels in the first place. I have loved all of her books, but some of the books that made that largest impact on me are her westerns and a few of her regency’s. She writes so well when portrayed human emotion and desires. I have had such a great adventure exploring this author’s works….they can always make me cry and leave me with a smile on my face when I am done.

Christine Feehan

christine-feehan-2This author I have much love for because she got me hooked on the paranormal genre and I have loved most of her books!! Her books are epic and fated love type themes. I love all of her series and the variety of elements that she uses. She is quite wonderful, although there are times she can be repetitive ocassionally but I love her work anyway. She writes incredible romances. The men are very alpha like though, so they may not be for everyone. But the women are pretty feisty and I do love the pnr aspects she shows!!

Catherine Spangler

catherine-spanglerI fell in love with this author many years ago, and to this day her books I can still easily re read. She writes in the science fiction romance department but she writes them so well. She got me hooked on the whole romance and science fiction set up. Her books are always plenty of adventure, action, intrigue and romance. I love the way she can pull the reader in so easily into her books and makes them so real and alive.

Sandra Hill

sandra-hillThis author is a riot and her books are so hilarious and lively!!! Man her humor rocks, I have never laughed so hard when reading her books both old and new are so funny. She does focus on time travel and Vikings so you put those two together and it can be quite a party at times. This author takes you on quite some fun wild rides with her books, and I adored every one of her books that I have read. She definitely has given me a good time.

Beverly Jenkins

beverly-jenkinsOh this author is so wonderful to read. I have read only a handful of her books so far but I plan on reading them all since I love her so much. I love that she writes diverse romances and her historical romances are just amazing!!! They do deal with some tough issues but they aren’t overshadowed by it, they are still romantic and fun to read. I am so grateful that I have picked up this author over the years, because she knows the history and I have learned and loved so much while reading her works.

Sabrina Jeffries

sabrina-jeffriesWhat can I say that will show how much I love and adore Sabrina Jeffries in so many little ways. Her books are simply brilliant. I fell in love with her with her Royal Prince Trilogy. All three books are amazing, and all the other books she has written. I will admit that some of her more recent ones I have on occasion struggled with however but her earlier works I can’t say enough for. I have had so many fun times and adventures with her books and so well written too.

C.L. Wilson

clwilsonThis was the first author I read that dealt with “fantasy romance” and I was hooked. I used to read just main fantasy but also wanted to see a mix of fantasy and romance, and she rocks at it!!! I love the way she has written her books, so different from anything else I have ever read! She is quite fabulous to read and her books are always thrilling and sexy and captivating.

And I’ve only read about half of those sadly to say. I’ve got a couple unreads on my shelves so it’s only a matter of time. Love the idea of being thankful for the authors and their books.
