Tea and Biscuits Book Discussion: Books I Would Need On A Deserted Island

by | Jun 12, 2017 | Uncategorized | 22 comments

So if you could choose any books to take with you, if you landed on a deserted island…which would they be and why? I always like to take a look at those books that mean the most to me over the years and have made the most influential impact on my life. Most of these are romance (of course) but some are other unique type of books that have also inspired me.

My Scriptures-

I  am LDS, and very close to my faith and these would be a must for me. My faith has gotten me through some of the worst things I have ever suffered: Severe Depression, Grief (even the loss of a almost fiancee), Loss, and more. But it also has given me so much happiness and fulfillment and so these would be a must including a few other books of LDS church literature.

The Works of Shakespeare

There is so much I love about Shakespeare, and he is just a classic to read.

Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan

I have so much love for this book, and is one of those most classic love stories I have read.

Outlaw Hearts Trilogy

I would have to take all three books with me of course, because I just adore this couple so much. They are fantastic, and even though what they go through together is tough and heartbreaking, I love the way they stay true to each other and rely on each other. A true to the heart epic romance that I would need with me.

Devil In Winter by Lisa Kleypas

If I had to choose a HR that I would need to take with me, it would be this one. Love seeing a anti hero turn into a hero you can admire and love. We see him make so many good changes.

This Is All I Ask by Lynn Kurland

What a classic medieval romance, with plenty of fun humor and unique style of writing, this book sets itself apart from many others I have read. And I just love our pair here, they are perfectly matched. And this is one of those books I could read over and over and never become bored with it. It evokes my emotions every time I pick it up.

Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsey

I just need some sexy yummy vikings to take with me, and Fires of Winter is definitely one of my old favorites. Even though its not a romance for everyone, its one that I love and would be a MUST to take along with me. And this author makes this time period and setting feel so real.

The Pirate Lord by Sabrina Jeffries

What could be more perfect than taking along my own pirate and island romance. This book is hilarious, charming and fun. Its a lighter pirate romance, but man I would want to keep Gideon for my own for sure.

The Gables Faces East and Gables Against The Sky

This is a Christian themed historical romance set in Australia. There are two books. Two of the first few books that got me hooked on romance in the first place. I love this duo series here, such strong characters that go through some tough challenges in their lives, but seeing the way love and determination can make all the difference.

Two Brothers by Linda Lael Miller

There is so much to love about this two booknovel…I love this book so much. Its fantastic, and real and such a authenic western and one of the best historical’s that this author has ever written.

Texas Glory by Lorraine Heath

Oh, this is one of my favorite romances, so this would have to come along to my island of course. This is one of those books that I have to had in paperback and e book form even. Its just a book that I love to indulge in from time to time. And I would feel empty if I couldn’t take this one with me.

The Secret by Julie Garwood

This would have to be a must for me to bring along. This book can make me laugh in the best ways and it leaves me smiling all the way through.

Never Seduce A Scot by Maya Banks

How much love I have for this book…its one of those its impossible to put down. I love a good highlander romance, but this one is so much more than a simple romance.

Declaration of Courtship and Kiss of Snow

I don’t know why I love these books so much, but they are some of my favorites. I love the pack dynamics that we see come into play with these two books.

Blue Eyed Devil By Lisa Kleypas

In Blue Eyed Devil we have a wonderful and emotion filled romance that still gets to me. I just love these two together. And besides the hero is so deliciously yummy to read.

I might have to take Lisa Kleypas with me to a deserted island as well. I would have to bring Ilona Andrews and Diana Gabaldon as well since I know that I enjoy re-reads of their books.

Lisa Kleypas I feel is a must to take right? With the length of how long Gabaldon’s books are, they would be perfect to take to a deserted island for sure.

Oh these are some good choices – especially Blue Eyed Devil! I think I would take the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, the Tairen Soul series by C.L. Wilson and the World of Hetar series by Bertrice Small.

Thanks Bambi!! I love Blue Eyed Devil too. He has such a yummy rough exterior. And the Tairen Soul series is amazing. I haven’t read the World of Heat series yet but I love Bertrice Small so I need to get on that.

Oh you have some interesting choices! I haven’t read many of these but they have been on my TBR for awhile! I would certainly take Devil in Spring, Marrying Winterborne, and Cold Hearted Rake. Appealed by Emma chase for sure. The entire Pay-Changling series and the entire Guild Hunter series. I love Nalini Singh.

Thanks!! Marrying Winterborne is fantastic, and Appealed is charming. And I agree about the Psy Changeling Series. I just love how Singh has written the changeling pack dynamics. I always wish I could jump into the book like Mary Poppins and become part of one of them. It would be awesome.

I’d probably take the entire In Death series by JD Robb just because there’s like 44 books in the series so far and I’ve always wanted to read it. It would last me a while at least. Lol.

haha yeah I know what you mean. The length of the series is probably the reason I haven’t picked them up yet hehe But I do need to get on that.

Shrewd choices. Left alone on a desert island would require some hope so spiritual back-up is good, classics with universal elements never grow old so another smooth move. And yeah, I’d pick a few Nalini Singh and Rosanne Bittner’s too (oh hey, did you see Sourcebooks put up The Last Outlaw on NetGalley for review?).
I would replace Shakespeare with the Works of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer b/c those never get old for me. My tried and true rereads would be some Mary Stewart, Victoria Holt, and Phyllis Whitneys. Then Ilona Andrews, Karen Chance, Mary Balogh… oh, seems my pirate chest is full now. 🙂

Love your picks! I definitely agree with Devil in Winter. It is one of my absolute favorite historicals. You’ve got a great list here.

Harry Potter is one of my must haves. That series never gets old for me and holds a certain kind of magic. I’m going to have to think on the rest.
