Playing innocent is easy.
After being the quiet, shy girl her whole life, Elise Markham is ready for a mental makeover. She’s done keeping to herself and staying out of trouble—it’s time to break out of her shell and maybe meet someone intriguing in the process. So, on a photography trip to Bluebonnet, she has a whole lot more on her mind than snapping photos, especially when Rome walks into the picture.
Playing dirty is fun.
The newest instructor at Wilderness Survival Expeditions has a colorful past, to say the least. Having come from a family of notorious con artists that destroyed his credit and reputation, all before his eighteenth birthday, Rome just wants a decent job and a quiet life in a town where no one knows his name. He’s exactly the kind of bad boy that an innocent girl like Elise should stay far away from.
But Elise is tired of doing what’s right. She’s ready to throw caution to the wind—and let Rome show her just how exciting being bad can be…

I have had this book on my shelf for almost six months now, and I decided to pick it up and boy am I glad that I did. I don’t know why I haven’t read more of this author, because each time I happen to pick her up, I have no regrets. This was a bit of a unique set up to a couple falling in love. We have our hero, Rome, the new guy in town who is a bad boy. Gorgeous, but his body is covered in tats and piercings. Our heroine, Elise, photographer and virgin and supersonic shy. This was a interesting set up because at the beginning, you can see how much work these two are going to have to put in to find their HEA. Elise has a birthmark on her cheek, and scars in various parts of her body and spine due to health problems when she was a teen. She doesn’t consider herself normal or even somewhat attractivctive. She is super shy around Rome. She has a huge crush on the man, and loves his bad boy look but can’t seem to put two words together to talk to him or let him know of her interest. But we see how determined Rome is to show her there is nothing to be afraid of. Rome is a man that has been betrayed by his parents in the worst ways. He has come to town for a fresh start and barely has two cents to rub together, but is hard working and loyal. These two were simply wonderful together. Their interactions are sweet and quite humorous while being sexy all at once.
“Well,” she began softly. “Um…I’d really like to have sex.”
“Right now?”
She could feel her cheeks heating. “It doesn’t have to be right now, no.”
His mouth twitched. “Tomorrow, then?”
When all hell breaks loose for Rome though (due to acts of Elise’s overprotective brother) this is where I just want to get my pom pom’s for Elise. Because she refuses to let Rome go without a fight. This was a fantastic love story that I was instantly captivated by. I loved having these two together, both tortured in different ways and they balanced each other out. A fun and sweet sexy read and I can’t wait to read the previous books.
“I don’t want to be in another dog party,” she admitted in a low voice. “It hurts too much.”
His fingers tightened on her wrist, just a bit. “I would never do that to you, Elise. I think you’re gorgeous. Incredibly shy, but sexy as hell. And I want you to not be shy around me, because I’m no better or worse than you. I’m just me and you’re just you…“
That last quote is so sweet. I think I would like him.
oh you would. He is one of those bad boys, that has a sweet heart.
You convinced me that I need to read this one, too. Rome’s acceptance of her and her determination to stay with him sound great.
You definitely should *nodding head* I just loved seeing these two come together in such a sweet way.
I still haven’t tried any of her books yet, but I’m tempted after reading your thoughts on this one . . .
oh you should. She writes in three different genres so there is plenty to choose from. Every time I read her, I like her even more.
Okay, I definitely want to read this one. It looks soooo cute.
oh you should!!! You would love it. Clare is so fun to read, she is becoming one of my favorite contemporary authors to read now. LOVE her.
I have lots of books that have been on my to-read pile for ages and lots of boosk that I know I probably will enjoy and wonder why it took me so long to pick them up. It’s great to find gems like that in the books you already own. I hadn’t heard of this author before. This couple sounds like they are great for each other. Great review!
LOL. I love the quotes! Right now? Tomorrow? I’ll pencil it in. 😀 I’ve not heard of this author! Sounds like a good read to me.
Fantastic review!

aww the quotes make me feel bad for missing out on this series the characters sound fantastic
I’ve already heard about this series before, I really need to read this one day 🙂
She really writes great books. I loved Rome but struggled with the heroine if I’m remembering right. Been a while since I read that one. I do want to go back for the others some day 😀 Glad you enjoyed them so much!
