About The Book

Once Upon A Time,
there was a king who passed.
He left behind two sons,
one beloved and one outcast.
The older of the two was set to take the throne,
but before he could he had to find a queen to call his own.
The younger one was known to be unruly and unhinged.
The chosen queen was warned to keep far away from him.
Beautiful and cunning, in the light is where she stayed.
But late at night, it was the shadowed lands in which she played.
Mistakes were made and secrets forged;
forgetting duty and her sense.
And while the new king had her hand,
her heart belonged to the scarred prince.

Scarred is a DARK Royal Romance. It is not a retelling or fantasy. It contains subject matter which may be triggering for some. Reader discretion is advised.

“I’d like to draw you,” I rephrase, moving in closer, my fingers dancing across her skin. “Just like this, with your face kissing the stars… I think it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

My Review

After reading the first one, I just couldn’t resist in picking up the second book in the series here. And I was delightfully surprised to see that this one was more historically set as I wasn’t quite expecting that. I never would have imagined that this author would have explored it in this way but I was so pleased about it. It is set in the early 1900s, so definitely not quite contemporary. This does take on qualities of “Disney’s Lion King” and has some similar references to it, however, it’s not a full-on retelling or fanfic of the tale. I was really intrigued to see how this author would handle this story and exactly how it would play out exactly and so intrigued by the enemies to lovers theme that is explored in this one. If you love an angst-filled romance, then I can tell you that this book will SO work for you and so well will it do so. I absolutely couldn’t get enough of seeing the bantering that is engaged between these two as well as showcasing the slow build sexual chemistry that is so obvious. Definitely quite a treat of a read here.

“The truth is, I am yours. Wholly. Inexplicably. Painfully. Unconditionally.” He moves my hand until the dagger presses against his throat. “And if you need to sacrifice my soul so you’re able to live with yours, then do it.”

I did experience some issues with this story here though. While I enjoy some angst between a pairing, I did feel like it was dragged out a bit too long and I think after reading “Hooked” I just didn’t want something so angst after just reading some angst from this author but that is partly my fault, I think if I had spaced these books out maybe my enjoyment would have been a bit better. But I was intrigued by the hero at times, in my mind, he is much darker than Hook from “Hooked” so fair warning upon that. While he eventually worked for me, I struggled with the conflict of his character. The heroine was completely badass though. I absolutely adored her in every way. She has such strength and tenacity that was so vibrant all the way through the story. And the charming sideline plot of this little boy that enters the lives of our pair was so adorable. I respect an author that can implement children into romance and just make it work out so well there. I will say I really enjoyed the plot of the story as a whole, and it was so DIFFERENT from the first book in the series and I loved the change in dynamics in the story and the romance that is delivered here. Definitely, such a treat to be able to read Scarred and the tension filled romance that offers so many sensual sparks and emotional fires that delivers in the way any dark romance reader will be enticed by.

Steam Level

Simmering—soft warm touches and light intimacy

Warm- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.

Steamin’ up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.

Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

This sounds interesting! I don’t think that I would have imagined a romance inspired by The Lion King
