The Mount Trilogy continues with Defiant Queen...

I’m his entertainment. His toy. Payment on a debt. I tell myself I hate him, but every time he walks into the room, my body betrays me. How can I want him and fear him in the same moment? They told me he’d mess with my head. Make it go to war with my body. But I didn’t realize it would be complete anarchy. I should’ve known better. When Mount’s involved, there are no rules. I will not surrender. I will not show weakness. I’ll stand my ground and make it out of this bargain with my heart and soul intact. But he has other plans . . .

Defiant Queen is the second book of the Mount Trilogy. Mount and Keira's story concludes in Sinful Empire.

Defiant Queen is the second book in the Mount Trilogy, and it pretty much sets off after book one. So I was really intrigued to see what Meghan March would give us in book two and how she would end it. Thankfully, I had prepared myself for a crazy cliffhanger and so I was kinda ready for anything but still, all the preparedness in the world would never have prepared me for what Meghan March did to my emotions in this book. Now I will warn you all that this book isn’t for everyone. It has a darker theme and deals with a big anti-hero so it’s not easy to read at times. And even though I don’t love the hero yet, I am starting to see some redeemable qualities to him. The heroine, however, I just love. She isn’t afraid of Mount in the way that everyone else is. Its like on some inner level she knows no matter what he won’t harm her physically or her family or those she cares about. There is quite a bit of HOT and STEAMINESS in this story. So watch out because its hot enough to steam the windows…literally.  I did like seeing more depths to Mount’s character though and more emotional depth to their relationship as a whole. We start to see Mount come to terms with how much he cares for Keira. He is slowly starting to stop fighting his feelings for her and accept it as it is.

I see Keira Kilgore exactly for what she’s becoming – the one woman who might be strong enough to stand by my side and rule an empire

And the ways that he supports her in her dreams and hopes for the future especially in her distillery business. We definitely have a chance to see a new side to Mount that I have come to love this side although we don’t this more kind and understanding side of him as often as I want but hopefully book three will have more of that. I can’t wait for book three because the way this book ended made me wish that I had waited to read these books until December…oh well….damage is done and now I will be counting down the days until book three’s release. Meghan March has written a highly erotic and stunningly emotionally riveted romance that pulled me in like a magnet!! SIMPLY BREATHTAKING!!

About Meghan March

Meghan March has been known to wear camo face paint and tromp around in woods wearing mud-covered boots, all while sporting a perfect manicure. She’s also impulsive, easily entertained, and absolutely unapologetic about the fact that she loves to read and write smut. Her past lives include slinging auto parts, selling lingerie, making custom jewelry, and practicing corporate law. Writing books about dirty talking alpha males and the strong, sassy women who bring them to their knees is by far the most fabulous job she’s ever had.

I’ve tried one book from her, but her writing doesn’t work for me. I remember it being very steamy. I like steamy but sometimes I want more heart to the story. I’m glad that the romance was so good for you! 🙂

Oh that is a shame, I am sorry to hear that Nick. She does write pretty steamy reads, its probably why I haven’t loved these books but I have enjoyed the writing and the characters so I still give it a solid like rating. But I am like you, I want more heart and these book could use a bit more of that.

The steaminess sounds great and I am okay with the darker issues, so I might just have to check out the other books too. 🙂

If you are okay with darker issues than you will be fine with this one. Meghan March writes some great characters.

I stayed up waaay to late reading this one last night and was wondering if you read it yet!! I just don’t know what to think – the story was nice and steamy and I really liked learning more about Mount…. but I agree that I wish I would have waited and read the ENTIRE series in December. Just doesn’t feel like a completed book yet and those endings – man oh man!!! Great review, Renee 🙂

Wow! You have me intrigued, Renee! I’m not one to shy away from dark or anti-heroes. And the premise is really interesting. And seeing as there are apparently cliffhangers, it’s a good thing the final book releases next month! 😉 Glad you enjoyed it so well.
