Grandmother, grandmother, who shall it be
Who shall it be who will marry me?
Duke, Earl, a powerful marquess?
When my heart is given to Fyclan Morris…In New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell's new novella, beautiful Jennifer Tarleton has no lack of noble suitors, but the only man who captures her attention is the one her father will never let her marry: Fyclan Morris. He's a brash adventurer, witty, courageous…and Irish! Even worse, her father blames her for their reversal of fortune…
And it's a fortune—or rather, his grandmother the fortune teller—who foretold that Fyclan would meet "the one,", a love prophesied in the stars. He vows nothing will stand in the way of making Jennifer his bride, but is the price too high? Or is a thing called love worth every challenge?
A Little Thing Called Love, is a novella and the beginning of a new series by Cathy Maxwell. In the past I have really enjoyed her work, but this novella shocked me in how much I fell in love with it. Going into it, I knew it was only around 100 pages, so there wouldn’t be a full depth to it like a full length novel, but boy did I enjoyed this one. We have a “destined” love theme to this story. Our hero, knows that Jennifer is the one for him, but it’s not going to be easy. Her father despises him and despite his fortune he will have to win her over in a unique way. Jennifer is a book lover (so I was completely endeared to her from the beginning) but what was most unique was how different she is from her family. Her father is a gambler, her mother accepts just about everything and her sisters are selfish and only think of their own desires. Jennifer wants more than just a transaction for a marriage, she wants love. When she meets Fyclan, she knows he is exactly what she needs. He is considerate, intelligent, shares her love of books, and genuinely cares about her. I found their story to be sweet and heartwarming and just a fun yet short story but I had a feeling of satisfaction that is rare in a novella. What was so rare and different, was how these two, once they realized their feelings for each other, fought to stay together. They didn’t go into denial and drag things out, they accepted and embraced what they had together. Very refreshing. So BRAVO to Cathy Maxwell, and after getting this teaser I can hardly wait to see what she creates with this series.
I’m reading this now and really enjoying it. Very good story and characters. Nice review!
Okay, now I HAVE to read this one. I’ve never read Cathy Maxwell but I’ve been wanting too. I have a few of her books. But this looks like the perfect way to try out her books. And I’m so glad that the novella was satisfying.
I still need to try her books. This novella has appeal as the first of a new series and shorter. I love it when the girl falls for the guy who is forbidden.
That’s so awesome! I love when an author does amazing things with a novella. She came and read at our Lady Jane’s Salon last year and I’ve been meaning to pick her up since. Thanks for the reminder 😀
I love it when a novella is the introduction to a new series, Renee – sometimes, that makes enough room for a little character development that isn’t always present in novellas.
I’ll have to put Cathy Maxwell’s books on my TBR.

OMG! I need to read this one! I didn’t request it from Avon this time around, but I’ll probably buy it, because all the Avon Addicts who have read it have loved it! I am so glad that you liked it, though I agree about novellas, they are super short and sometimes lack depth!
Lovely review! Have a fabulous weekend 🙂
