Lusting For Covers (273) A Hope Divided

by | Nov 5, 2017 | Lusting For Covers | 13 comments

The Civil War has turned neighbor against neighbor–but for one scientist spy and her philosopher soldier, war could bind them together . . .

For three years of the War Between the States, Marlie Lynch has helped the cause in peace: with coded letters about anti-Rebel uprisings in her Carolina woods, tisanes and poultices for Union prisoners, and silent aid to fleeing slave and Freeman alike. Her formerly enslaved mother’s traditions and the name of a white father she never knew have protected her–until the vicious Confederate Home Guard claims Marlie’s home for their new base of operations in the guerilla war against Southern resistors of the Rebel cause.

Unbeknowst to those under her roof, escaped prisoner Ewan McCall is sheltering in her laboratory. Seemingly a quiet philosopher, Ewan has his own history with the cruel captain of the Home Guard, and a thoughtful but unbending strength Marlie finds irresistible.

When the revelation of a stunning family secret places Marlie’s freedom on the line, she and Ewan have to run for their lives into the hostile Carolina night. Following the path of the Underground Railroad, they find themselves caught up in a vicious battle that could dash their hopes of love–and freedom–before they ever cross state lines.

Why A Hope Divided?

This is such a gorgeous cover, and I have been hearing a ton about how good these books are!! I just love diverse romances, and there is just not enough to satisfy me and I love how rich she writes in history or at least that is what I have heard from interviews and other reviews I have read. But I just love the simplicity of the cover, with the heroine in such a pretty blue dress, with the kitchen scene and all the greenery. It just adds such beautiful touches. I definitely want this one on my shelf.

I’d not heard of this book! I’ve heard Ms. Bev writes really good diverse HR, especially set during this time period (I think?). I’ve yet to read one of her books but I want to try one. This book sounds like a good one as well. Great choice, Renee!

    Have a fantastic weekend. =)

I will say that yes Beverly Jenkins is fantastic and she writes the historical aspects so well and so swoony romances.

From what I have learned from SBTB…this author is newer ( I think) and she writes great diverse romances and I am currently reading her newest contemporary “A Princess In Theory” and its so funny and great. So i have a feeling I will just love this author even more in the future.

It is a nice cover indeed and I like how it’s a bit different and more unique than most covers out there. Nice use of different colors as well with the blue dress, the green touches and the yellow background.
