Elite Leading Ladies of 2021

Welcome to the next segment of the Elite Romance series of 2021.  This post is where I am going to list my TOP reads of the year, which wasn’t easy to narrow down. I have had a decent reading year and I am thrilled to be able to share all the delicious reads that I have here.

I have discovered some wonderful heroines this past year that is sweet, strong, courageous, and beyond endearing, and easy to relate to. These women are an inspiration, I love seeing them face unique challenges and rise above and grow beyond what they are in the beginning.

Merritt is one of the best heroines I have EVER read in the genre, there is such a perfect balance in her character that is so rare to see in a heroine. I adore how she is so caring, sweet, driven, and intelligent. She is strong-willed but doesn’t take advantage of others or is selfish in her desires as can happen frequently with too strong-willed of heroines. And she is so willing to fight for her man and has such faith in him.

One of my greatest catnips is in seeing a heroine fight for the hero, to defend and protect him in her own unique ways. Too many times in recent years we see heroines too consumed with their own feminist desires that they neglect the heroes. But SINGH especially lately has written heroines that just love their men so deeply and fight for them. Payal is this type of heroine. She is ALL the way in for Canto and it’s so empowering in the way that she is written.

Winter is so delightful but above all, she has a spine of iron and strength of will. She has such courage and resilience to face whatever comes at her, and I loved how she stands up for herself and refuses to be a victim. I just connected with Winter, you see so much of her vulnerability that is relatable. You just want to see her find her own path.

Isabail is one of those heroines that you love seeing in a historical romance. LeVeque writes the type of heroines that are fierce in their own ways but easy to connect to. She is sweet yet a fighter. She is protective and willing to stand by the man she loves no matter the risk.

Elizabeth was a heroine that SURPRISED me so much. I never expected to fall for such a heroine. On the surface she seems naive in some ways, which granted, makes sense as she was raised in a convent. BUT she is canny, intelligent and has her own sort of cunning that is remarkable. When I expected her to act a certain way that would have led to disaster, she ended up surprising me with creative thinking, definitely the right mate for the hero.

Trinity, is such a lovely heroine and she has a down-to-earth spirit and I really loved how she uplifts and encourages the hero and everyone around her. She doesn’t let bitterness or disappointments in life get her down or affect how she treats others. I truly admired this quality that we see in her.

Bea is the best kind of heroine especially in a darker romance like this one here. I especially loved the balance of tough and sweet that she embodies so flawlessly. She is such an accepting heroine, she sees the beauty in others and is open to new experiences.

Ava is a character that I relate to the most out of most I have read this year. She is awkward and weird around men but is hopeful of the world and sees the good before the bad. She is intelligent as she is a scientist and has a desire to help others, but has a heart of gold.

Gracie was a pure delight, I love her devotion to her work and family and she is a modern day wallflower and I love seeing the unique qualities that she has come to light in this one. She has a certain spirit about her that is so fiery sweet. She stands by her convictions and is so hardworking and a sense of determination.

Sloane is one of those heroines that SHOCKED me so much and in such a good way. I absolutely adored what we got in this book from her. She is sassy, bubbly, and sweet and unconventional and so funny. I love her smart mouth and stubborn streak and how she is willing to stand up to dear daddy Declan in the most dynamic of ways. She has a toughness that proves to be an equal match for the heroine and more.

Spring is such a badass heroine, I just love her spirit and strength and her toughness. She has a fun personality. She is a warrior in her own right, but also has unique magical abilities, and she see’s through the facade that Simus puts up. I love her straightforward nature. She is bold and daring but also has her own share of vulnerabilities.

Veritas is a QUEEN in my book. Her character is so badass and I loved everything about er and in this book it only fortified my feelings on this matter here. I love her strength, her ability to fight and protect, her cunning intelligence, her tenacity to stand by the man she loves, and the courage to fight against such an enemy that they face.

I’ve only read Carnal Urges and Wicked All Night. Loved Sloane and really liked Veritas. I have to say that the Frost book was not a favorite for me this time and I’ve loved the rest of hers that i have read or listened to.

I read that SEP book ages ago, but she tends to have great heroines.

I have such a struggle with heroines in romances that I love seeing a list like this of really fabulous heroines. I’ve only read two of those, but I agree that Payal and Isabail are fab, too.

This reminds me that I need to get back to that Penelope Douglas series. I’ve only read the first book, but was planning on finishing it.
