No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…
As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

Synopsis

In Magic Breaks, another installment in the world of Kate and Curran. Curran, the Beast Lord of Pack, has left on a mission, and Kate is left behind. However, upon in a meeting the with People, one of their past enemies Curran had killed…has come back alive. Now Kate is on her own to defeat her enemy who may be working with her father. She realizes that if she can’t save her people, they might be destroyed. Meanwhile, she is worried about Curran and that he may be dead or injured.

This was such a unique installment into this series, although I will admit, I didn’t like that Kate and Curran are apart from each other for the majority of the story. But we also see some major factors happen that we see the progress in their relationship and the politics of the Pack. I did like seeing how creative Kate becomes in surviving in certain situations. Curran really surprised me in this book though. With his decision at the end, because he is willing to give up certain things for Kate and their relationship. I loved that, seeing how devoted he is to her, how he respects her abilities, how they fight side by side and seeks to do what is right by Kate despite the major change it will bring. And on the other side of the coin, we see how despite what is going around Kate, the dangers to her and those she cares about…Curran is still her top priority. We see how much he matters to her, and she is such a strong character. I love how even though she is hurting inside because she suspects he may be gone, she doesn’t let it distract her when she needs to be at top form. But we see a deeper level to her feelings for Curran. This story definitely made me eager for the next book , and seeing the change in their lives progress even more.

In the latest Kate Daniels novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews, magic is coming and going in waves in post-Shift Atlanta—and each crest leaves danger in its wake…
After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate—former Beast Lord Curran Lennart—are adjusting to a very different pace. While they’re thrilled to escape all the infighting, Curran misses the constant challenges of leading the shapeshifters.
So when the Pack offers him its stake in the Mercenary Guild, Curran seizes the opportunity—too bad the Guild wants nothing to do with him and Kate. Luckily, as a veteran merc, Kate can take over any of the Guild’s unfinished jobs in order to bring in money and build their reputation. But what Kate and Curran don’t realize is that the odd jobs they’ve been working are all connected.
An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it—before it takes their city apart piece by piece…

Synopsis

Kate Daniels and the Beast Lord Curran have left the pack, and are workinig on their own time and means. They devote more time to Kate’s business, and spending time together. At first Kate was reluctant, because she was sure that Curran would regret the decision. He had always been the pack leader since he was young. But Curran made the decision to leave, when it became apparent that it couldn’t be their life anymore. Curran and Kate are enjoying the freedom of not answering to constant calls or being interrupted all the time especially during the most intimate moments which could be frustrating. But when one of their close friends, has gone missing, they go in search of him. They find themselves drawn into a cat and mouse game with a enemy neither of them see coming.

I LOVED this book so much, this is where we see Curran and Kate attempt to live a somewhat “normal”life. They buy a home like a normal couple, fight enemies together and have sex whenever they feel like it. They have a sense of freedom that they never had before. But there is a on going danger with Kate’s father, and a hidden enemy. Also we see them take on a new responsibility that neither Kate or Curran expected to take on but in the long run it would be financial independece for them. At first Kate suspects that no one wanted to leave the pack to be with them, but we see little by little how that changes or its pretty much kept from Kate for a while. She isn’t a happy camper when she finds out hehe We see some challenges happen for Curran and Kate. View Spoiler » But I also enjoyed seeing how the plot of this book came together, and was pretty happy with the ending. I am very curious about the small teaser we are left with though and what Kate means to do about it or if she tells Curran about it (hope she does or we are going to have one pissed off lion). hehe
