Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in a downward spiral of grief ever since the car accident that left him a single dad and put his career on hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold Fury and still crippled by emotional baggage, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s touch—even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under those baggy clothes.

Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to move on with his life—and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart, Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.

Zack is the third book in the Cold Fury Hockey series and I was really excited to read this book. We see Zack in the first two books so I was *crossing my fingers* that this book would be superb of a read. Unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy the hero that much to be honest. It was a bit disappointing because he is a jerk type hero. Now he has recently lost someone close to him “Gina” a woman he was with for quite a few years and they had a son together, but he was never truly honest with Gina. He knew she wanted marriage but he never felt like he loved her enough to marry her. He did love her and at the end of Garrett (book two) we see how devastated he is by her death.

Then comes in the nanny his sister has hired for his son. Kate is working on getting her degree in child counseling, and this would be the perfect job for her. She loves children and it would pay really well. At first Zack and Kate don’t really like each other that much. Zack more than Kate, he doesn’t like having a stranger in his home but with him going into the season for Hockey, he needs someone reliable to take care of his son while he is gone. Sparks fly and soon they give into the desire that they feel for each other. But Zack isn’t really that nice to Kate. He makes it clear its just sex and nothing more than that. But more builds between them.

I will admit that even though I did like this book because seriously the HEROINE is what makes this book so special. I just loved her character and she is great about putting Zack in his place without having to make him feel bad about himself. She doesn’t nag at him or anything, just is clear about boundaries and being respectful. Which this is what Sawyer Bennett is fabulous at, she creates the best heroines because they know how to handle their men especially when they are being jerks at times. And boy, I understand why Zack is the way he is, he is slowly recovering from the grief of losing Gina and what I did like was his relationship with Kate is becoming to be more than just sex. Its the little things he does for Kate that has more meaning than just a sexual fling. And yes boy does Zack have to grovel and he deserves it for sure. But I did end this book with a smile so I did really enjoy it quite a bit. But there were times I wanted to strangle Zack because of how he treats Kate and Gina.

Overall I did find Zack to be a fun and emotionally gratifying romance that Bennett always delivers. Its a story of healing, intimacy and true love!

three-half-stars

Jules has got a score to settle against the drug dealers of Denver. Vance has made it his mission that Jules won’t get dead while dishing out vigilante justice. Jules doesn’t have time for romance, she’s too busy saving the world and she enlists Zip (the gunstore owner), Heavy (an ex-PI) and Frank (a mysterious recluse) to help.

The Rock Chicks of Fortnum’s Bookstore get involved to provide romantic advice and guidance, none of which Jules accepts at first. The Hot Bunch of Nightingale Investigations adopt Jules as one of their own. Even though Jules tries to hang on to her inner Head Crackin’ Mamma Jamma, the Rock Chicks; Hot Bunch; Jules’s long-suffering Uncle Nick; Jules’s friend the rotund, African-American, Jackie-O wannabe, May; and especially Vance will stop at nothing to wear her down.

But Jules makes some bad guys pretty angry and one is dedicated to taking her out. Vance and the Hot Bunch have to pull out all the stops to keep her alive. At the same time, Jules and Vance learn the true meaning of home but once they find this precious entity they’ve been searching for all their lives, will Jules’s enemies tear it away?

Jules is a woman that has lost just about everyone she loves except her Uncle Nick. She is a social worker and helps out the kids that are homeless and living on the streets. Trying to do what she can to get them away from the drug dealers and get them to a foster family, an education and help them believe in themselves. But on the side of being a social worker, she wants to drive drug dealers off the streets and acts like a vigilante until Vance gets involved and he is sticking to her like glue which she isn’t fond of even if he is gorgeous. But Vance knows how dangerous it is for Jules to be doing what she is doing. Antagonizing the drug lords in Denver is only going to get her killed, and won’t help the kids she loves and is trying to protect.

I really did love seeing Vance and Jules together for the most part. I will admit though, that this is my least favorite of the rock chick books. I was really looking forward to LOTS of great laughs and even though there were some fun parts, nothing like what we see in the previous books so I was a bit disappointed by the lack of humor that I was expecting. And Jules is a alpha female for sure but she kinda drove me nuts at times. She was way too stubborn and prideful. But thankfully Vance ends up being perfect for her. He doesn’t let her go too crazy but soon her life is in danger and ironically she has Marcus and Darius supporting her and seems to be trying to protect her from those that want her dead. She gets adopted into the Rock Chick club and I love these ladies in reaching out to Jules even when she doesn’t want it. The romance between Vance and Jules was angsty but fun at times too. I did enjoy this book, just not as much as I was wanting. Hopefully the next book will be a good one for me!!

Overall I found Rock Chick Renegade to be a satisfying and thrilling romance that will rock your world in many respects!! A delight to read.

About Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
