About The Book

Angel Smith is ready to leave Antarctica for a second chance at life. But on what was meant to be her final day, the research station is attacked. Hunted and scared, she and glaciologist Ford Cooper barely make it out with their lives…only to realize that in a place this remote, there’s nowhere left to run.

Isolated in the middle of a long, frozen winter with a madman at their heels, they must fight to survive in the most inhospitable—and beautiful—place on earth. But the outside world depends on what Ford and Angel know and, as their pursuers close in and their new partnership burns bright and hot, they will stop at nothing to make it out of the cold alive.

My Review

First Impressions

Ever since this book was released, all that I have seen is raving reviews for this one and I don’t get a chance to read wilderness romances too often (they aren’t super common in the genre). I was really excited for this one, I have quite a few friends that have loved this book inside and out and I know that I went into this story with high expectations, probably way higher than I ever should have had if I am being honest because I wasn’t too impressed with this book. I am not sure where the disconnect happened, but I was so stoked for a book that would just fire me up, but instead, it was like churning rubber, trying to read this book. I just don’t think I was in the right mood for this type of story, I had picked it up randomly while searching through my kindle archives. While it had some redeeming qualities to the story, I still didn’t enjoy it like I was expecting to, so it was a bit of a disappointment overall.

Summary

Ford Cooper is a glaciologist and chooses to live and breathe in the ice and the snow, it’s his passion and he knows how to survive long winters but in the south pole, there is one woman that fires up his blood but also makes him wonder if he can ever get her to smile warmly at him. Angel Smith is a cook, she loves to create edible creations for others, and she has this split attraction to Ford that she doesn’t quite know how to separate, she is attracted to him but also doesn’t know if she likes him or not fully. But then the station is attacked, she witnesses a murder of a friend, and she joins forces with Cooper to save some virus samples found underneath the ice. Both Angel and Ford are determined to keep the enemy from finding the samples they are so desperate to have. They run into the wilderness of the snow and ice wasteland while being chased by their enemy. Both Angel and Ford find love while on the run in the least likely expectation from either of them and learn to work together to survive the dangers chasing them…

What I Loved

There were quite a few things about Whiteout that I truly enjoyed, I wasn’t from the beginning what I was going into with this story. But one of my favorite elements was the unexpected that we see happen. You never knew what was going to happen next, and I think this author knows how to write the surprises and built up of the plot. There is a sense of thrills that are packed within this story here. I also was intrigued by the personalities of the characters themselves. They both have such distinct personalities and it was interesting to see how they ended up working out together when at the beginning of the story there wasn’t much love lost between them. I also became intrigued by the villains in the story, there is a side plot to their motivations and I was so intrigued by it. I was really curious to see where that would be built into it.

What I Struggled With

There were a few aspects to the story that I really struggled with and couldn’t quite be okay with for me. The first aspect was the pacing of the story. I have read other books by this author (but only audiobooks) so I think in the future audio narrations are going to be the best way with this author. I just couldn’t get into the writing or the story much at all. It wasn’t steady or consistent and I would get to a point in the story where I would find consistency and then it would throw me off again and it felt on and off all the way through the story. I also didn’t feel the romance at all, I just didn’t connect with the chemistry between these two and I was expecting to find so much more than what I received. I wanted to see more from this couple and I just felt disappointed by their relationship from beginning to end.

Overall View

I found Whiteout to be a thrilling story that is guaranteed to keep the reader on edge in this knock your socks off suspense…..a TANTALIZING READ!

I adored this one, but that’s perfectly okay if you didn’t. I know what you mean about not being in the right mood or just not being a fit for the writing style. 🙂

So sorry it did not live up to your expectations. I have this one to read so I guess I need to lower my expectations going in.

Sorry this wasn’t quite the winner it could have been. I do find that some books are just better in audio.
    Great honest review 🙂 ?

Oooh this is one I hadn’t heard anything about but now I’m totally fascinated! I don’t think I’ve ever read a wilderness romance, so I might have to add this to my TBR (audiobook version only, obviously)!
