All I wanted to do was run away, I never expected to crash into his arms...
After leaving the city life behind to escape my loveless marriage, I moved to small town Havenbarrow for a fresh start.
What I didn’t expect was to find myself drawn to the town’s black sheep.
They called him troubled. Cold. A man with a dark past.
What everyone seemed to miss about Jax was the splashes of light in his eyes. The random acts of kindness he performed when no one was watching. The way he made me smile and laugh.
Jax helped unpack the baggage I’d been carrying around with me. He was patient with my pain and gentle with my scars. He was the stillness during my hurricane.
Yet when both of our pasts came back to haunt our present days, we realized quickly that sometimes love stories didn’t end the way we’d hoped.
Sometimes you were left with only the damage from the storm.

Southern Storms is a story that I probably wouldn’t have been drawn to if I hadn’t gotten a recommendation by a romance tuber I follow. I had never heard of this author before now, and while the cover is HOT as sin, its generic in some respects to many other books especially in the KU subscription if you have it. But I can safely say that I adored this book and I found I couldn’t get enough of it. Its a romance that sweeps you up pretty instantly into the story and the beginning is so heart breaking in some ways you just want to cuddle and comfort these characters involved.

Mama said the best people are the imperfect ones because the best adventures in life don’t come from perfect things

Southern Storms is a story that begins with our heroine, Kennedy. Kennedy has suffered losing her daughter and a husband who is not comforting, sympathetic and only married her because they got pregnant. And his disdain and disrespect even in front of others, is obvious and cuts at her deeply but when he gives her divorce papers and practically kicks her out of their home, she is broken inside. And goes to the only person she knows ….her sister whom she hasn’t talked to in years. But her sister welcomes her with open arms, and after some time gives her a little cottage in a small town and while her sister and her husband goes on a well deserved honeymoon ….Kennedy looks to settle in her new home. But then she comes across a beautiful serene field of daisies and a beast of a man…Jax. Jax doesn’t like people at all, he is a major introvert and even though he runs a plumbing business, he just wants to be left alone most of the time. But Jax knows someething that Kennedy hasn’t realized….they were childhood friends and lost touch through a third party….and as they reconnect —a love and desire is sparked….

I kissed her as if time was running out. I kissed her for our yesterdays, and I kissed her for tomorrow. And then I kissed her again. If she was a dream, I planned to sleep forever.

Southern Storms was simply a beautiful and heart filled story that I was drawn to in so many ways. I honestly was captivated by these two. First off there are a multiple of tropes that come into play here.

  • Fairy Tale Retelling-Beauty and the Beast
  • Childhood Sweethearts
  • Friends To Lovers
  • Second Chance Romance

So just by seeing the tropes you just know that the author really packs in so much into this relationship but this author definitely makes it work so brilliantly. I found that for my first take on this author, she is definitely one I will be reading again in the future. I just had a blast with this story and it gave me all the feels I am always on the hunt for. And it put a focus on a type of male we don’t see too often or don’t really know the term of that much “Sigma” males which are similar to Alpha Males–just the introverted kind of alpha. I simply had a blast with Jax to be honest. He is broody, likes to be alone, but is protective and supportive, a leader even though he doesn’t realize it and dedicated and hardworking and a fighter for the family. For me he is the epitome of a healthy introverted alpha male. And I was down for it ALL!

I love your broken pieces, because it shows that you’ve lived. It shows that you are brave enough to give yourself to the world, no matter how hard it can be at times

The heroine I fell in love with as with and she was such a great match for Jax in all the ways that truly matter. I truly was captivated by her journey and seeing her grow and learn to heal from her loss. I like that this trauma of losing her daughter wasn’t swept under the rug but was focused more primarily on. I know many women could relate so well to what Kennedy struggles with. And seeing her stand up to Jax before she even realizes who he is was fantastic. We see that her ex didn’t break her spirit, just bruised it and seeing her make a strong comeback in her own process was so rejuvenating to the story.

I love your sunny days and your moon shadows, and I am going to keep loving you and your broken pieces until you feel my love so strongly you forget your heart has any damaged cracks. Then, I’m going to love you more

The romance that builds between these two is beautiful especially as we see the little flashbacks to their childhood and seeing their friendship form and even though they were so different, they fit together in such a harmonious way. They see the beauty that resides in each other even if others don’t see it. Their relationship is one of rediscovery, learning of their own value, and healing together and shaping their own lives with a vibrancy of emotion and love…
