New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh introduces a bold new chapter in her extraordinary paranormal romance saga with the Psy-Changeling Trinity series. Wild passion will encounter the darkest of betrayal...

Control. Precision. Family. These are the principles that drive Silver Mercant. At a time when the fledgling Trinity Accord seeks to unite a divided world, with Silver playing a crucial role as director of a worldwide emergency response network, wildness and chaos are the last things she needs in her life. But that’s exactly what Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears, brings with him.

Valentin has never met a more fascinating woman. Though Silver is ruled by Silenceβ€”her mind clear of all emotionβ€”Valentin senses a whisper of fire around her. That’s what keeps him climbing apartment buildings to be near her. But when a shadow assassin almost succeeds in poisoning Silver, the stakes become deadly serious…and Silver finds herself in the heart of a powerful bear clan.

Her would-be assassin has no idea what their poison has unleashed...

Silver Silence is the beginning of a new but not new series by Nalini Singh. How the author puts it is another “season”. This book follows after the Psy Changeling series. There have been some new developments of course. We have humans, psy, and changeling working together but not everyone approves of it. And there is a group of “terrorists” wanting to destroy the alliance that they have created. Our heroine Silver, has always had silence, it keeps her under control. But she does have a family, where they look out for her. But when her life is proved to be in danger, she reluctantly agrees to go stay at a bear pack close to home in Russia. Valentin is the alpha of the Stone Water Bears. He has a duty to his pack, and is dealing with a part of his wolves not supporting him being alpha which is breaking the hearts of the pack. But Valentin also knows that Silence is his mate, despite her sense of control over everything. He knows he will have to slowly win her over, but he is a bear so he is more than up to the challenge.

β€œValentin found a mate worthy of him.” Silver took that as the compliment it was meant to beβ€”but she was also bear enough now to say, β€œI’d say I found a mate worthy of me.

In Silver Silence we see the way that these characters slowly come together. Valentin is your typical alpha male of course but not. He knows he can’t be all domineering and controlling with a Psy female, especially when they keeps her emotion under a tight leash. I like how he tries to emulate Lucas, in how he seduced his Psy….but of course he refuses to follow the example of the wolf alpha. Bears don’t like wolves for some reason,,,its kinda funny. What I liked is seeing how Valentin and the other members of his pack tread slowly and patiently with Silver especially since bear changelings aren’t very patient or slow. I also found myself intrigued by bear changelings. I really liked seeing the way they are with each other. They are rowdy, playful, can hold their liquor, and can sleep through anything and boy do they love their sleep hehe Typical bears right?

“Bears have big bodies and big hearts. No one can ever argue otherwise. But there is a school of thought that says these big, blunt, gorgeous, and often aggravating creatures are the most sensitive changelings of us all. It’s hard to hurt a bear … but if and when you succeed, their pain is enormous.”

We also see some intrigue and mystery develop in the plot. I will admit that this is the one aspect of the story I struggled with. There is a lot of new information that Singh puts out, and can be a bit confusing and it was a little difficult keeping everything straight. But that is the only thing that kept this book from being a five star. It does have its emotional moments especially toward the end, but boy this book really tests you, pulls you into a sexy and fun changeling and psy cultures, and seeing three groups come together in unity and try to make a better world for themselves. The author has succeeded in meeting my expectations for this book and I can’t wait to see what she pulls out of her clever hat next!!! Silver Silence will keep you on your toes, sexy as sin, tugs at the heartstrings and will keep you wanting more!! FABULOUS ROMANCE!!

About Nalini Singh

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

I have missed you!! So happy to see that you’re back and I hope you’re doing well.
Can you believe that I have never read a Nalini Singh book?? I feel like I should change that. I can definitely see why/how a lot of information in one book can be frustrating. The rest of it sounds awesome though. πŸ™‚

Oh Nick I have missed you too!! You have never read SINGH!!!!!! *gasp* That is like saying you have never seen a sunset hehe No really you should check her out. She does have some Contemporary books you should try out. Rock Hard is fabulous and is probably at your library. But her Psy Changeling series is fantastic.

Yes there was a lot of information, but I think its because she is setting the stage for this series and there is a lot of new politics involved.

How far behind? Unless you have read the last three of four books of the first series, I would recommend catching up first or you might be really confused. But if you catch on fast, then you would probably be alright. There is quite a bit of politic drama going on here that has been building for the last few books so I wouldn’t want you to get lost.

Awww…that last quote was a real heartbreaker. πŸ™

I read the first book of the Psy-Changeling series a while ago. I really need to pick the series back up again.

    Great review.

Thanks Angie!! There were so many to choose from, but that bottom one is one of my favorites and I had to share it. You definitely need to read the rest of the series. I am thinking of doing a re read this summer because I just love the changeling pack dynamics so much. Wouldn’t it be great if real life was like that?

I still haven’t read this author, I finally put the first audiobook of this series on hold at the library, I am eager to dig in. It speaks volumes that the series is still going strong this many in.

I’m not super into paranormal, but I really loved Rock Hard (or is it Hard Rock??) so I’m curious about this series. I know it’s super popular. Glad you’re loving it.

Oh Rock Hard was so dang good wasn’t it? Rex and Mouse hehe I do think the changeling (shifters) pack dynamics is something you would really love here Quinn. So I definitely think you should give the series a try. She writes some of the best shifter themed romances I have ever read. So I highly recommend these books especially if you have enjoyed her work before.

oh yes that series is wonderful isn’t it? This series is different if not better but I am biased since these books were the first I read from her. But she is such a talented writer.
