Since she was young, Cher Rivers knew she was not the kind of girl who got what she wanted. A girl who could hope. A girl who could dream. She knew a happily ever after just wasn’t in the cards for her.
In love for years with last bastion of the ’Burg’s eligible bachelors, Garrett Merrick, Cher worked hard at making him laugh. Being one of the guys. Having him in her life the only way she could. All this knowing he was in love with another woman.
The Merrick Family is known for loving deep. So when Cecelia Merrick was murdered, it marked the Merrick family in a way none of them recovered. Both Cecelia’s children found love. Both turned their backs on it. But Garrett “Merry” Merrick knew in his soul the woman he divorced years ago was the one for him.
Until the night when Cher took Garrett’s back and things changed. The Merrick family loves deep but they also protect fiercely. And with his eyes finally open, he can see the woman who truly is for him and Garrett goes after her. The problem is she’s surrounded by danger. So he has to win her at the same time keep her safe.

Hold On is the final installment in the “Burg'” series and I am FINALLY finished with this series and I thought it would take me forever. I have to admit as much of a fan I am of Kristen Ashley, this series isn’t my favorite to be honest. These books while I had a fondness and love for, I still struggled with at times with being as fully into as many of her other books. Now Hold On might be my least favorite of the series, but despite my issues with this book, I still had a solid time with it and enjoyed what KA brought to the table with this book here.

Hold On is a story where two people who have been friends for years, get a little drunk and have crazy passionate sex together and now they have to face the consequences that they find together here. Cher Rivers has been in love with Merrick for such a long time but he has never seen her more than a friend…until now. Merrick is just coming off of a relationship which has ended pretty bitterly in many respects. Cher is used to putting a fence around herself to protect herself from being hurt, and she knows she needs to do that with Merrick. But Merrick knows her so well he is determined to break down her defenses. Cher is a single mother and she has her ex and his wife trying to make her life difficult and now the drama with Merrick and Cher is coming to a crossroads in deciding what she is willing to take a risk on and if its worth it for the long haul.

I will be honest the beginning of this book really threw me a wrinkle because the heroine I so didn’t like and she really had to grow on me. She is very cold through the beginning of it and yes there are reasons for that, but I felt the way she treats Merrick in the beginning to be so “untouchable” and I struggled with seeing a hero treated in the way she treats him. But I love that she does learn and she is willing to fight for her man and boy when she fights for Merrick BAM….I fell for this heroine and grew to really respect her for it. Merrick is having a rough time, but I love how dedicated he proves to be for Cher and her son. The bond the Merrick and Ethan (Cher’s eleven year old son) was simply adorbs. I had a blast seeing these two form such a bond and Cher was such a interactive mother, I love how involved she is in her son’s life.

Now this book is LONG, so fair warning, this is not going to be a quick read. How KA can fit a quirky small town romance and stretch it for over 600 pages I have NO clue, its not like this is a fantasy or anything —but she does and I am always down for it. I love how she just effortlessly can have such length in her stories but so much depth in the relationships and I love seeing that depth in many respects. I will mention the epilogue in this book is AMAZING!! I love a good epilogue but its really an epilogue for the whole series so if you have a love for the series, I highly recommend this epilogue to you because its a must. I loved seeing all of our couples in this series, get a more in depth look. I will be sad to leave The Burg as this series is over, but I had a blast delving into this series and these characters who did win my heart in many ways.

Overall I found Hold On to be a sexy and full depth emotion driven romance that might drive you up the wall at times but will have you cheering these characters on throughout their delightful journey!

About Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
