Now, Annie's son is fading away with a mysterious illness, and she must seek help from his father, who doesn’t know he exists. My Review

Summary

Three years previous, Dash and Annie met on Cancun and had three beautiful nights together. Annie and Dash went their separate ways, even though they both developed strong feelings for each other. Now Annie has a two-year-old son, a young vibrant boy who is changing right before her eyes. He is sick, weakening, and not the upbeat and energetic boy he has always been. Annie is a genetic scientist, but in order to conduct the right research, she needs to know of Dah’s heritage and any anomaly’s in his family line. After searching, she finds him. She is afraid of what she will find, and what Dash’s reaction will be to finding out he is a father. Dash is pack leader, and after his father’s recent death, he is next in line to become the leader of all packs. He will have to marry in order to have the right connections. But when a woman of his past comes back in his life, his loyalties are split because he has always loved Annie, even though he knows he can never fully have her. But there are secrets, betrayals, dangers and hidden agenda’s that will bring these two souls together, and only by trusting in each other and the love they have will they find the answers that can secure their future.

Plot and Story Line

Heir To The Pack is the first of a new series by Laura Welling. This is the first time I have had the opportunity to read her and I really had a blast with this one. Even though the “secret baby” trope isn’t my favorite, Welling did fantastic with implementing it into this plot line. It is hard to let the father know he has a child if you can’t find him right? Eventually, our heroine does, but it takes her quite a bit of time. This story brings us into a jumble of pack politics that can make your head spin. I actually loved having a darling two-year-old boy involved in the mix of this romance. He was charming and adorable and reading this book made me want kids. He really added charm and energy to the story. I loved the way that Dash responds to him, and it was interesting seeing the development of this plot.

Oh boy did this book take me into a whirlwind of events that kept me so intrigued from the first to the last pages. We do have a bit of a few mysteries that are involved into the mix and it adds some facets to the story that you don’t see at first. But as the story progresses we see how this is so much more than just a romance. We see grit and determination and other qualities that you can’t help but admire. The characters are what make this story a fantastic read. We have the main characters, Annie’s mother (who is colorful and outrageous but so fun), then we have pack members, Dash’s best friend and oh man I want to read his story so badly. We have a boy who is cursed and will die if they don’t find a way to free him of it. We have some secret enemies that aren’t whom you expect and the “villain” of the story will shock you to the core when you find truths you didn’t see coming. And the obvious “you assume” villains….ends up delighting this reader.

This is a story that is packed with so many various aspects that flow smoothly together. I was impressed with the love that develops even more between these two as they reconnect and try to find a way to save their son. This plot twist really adds something more to their relationship. We see how it tests them in the worst and best ways….it makes them stronger, fighters and not giving up until they find a way to be a family together. A truly remarkable love story that kept me animated all the way through.

The Cover

I really love the pose here…its sensual but tender too. Love the big moon in the background and the hint of a paranormal theme to the story.

Overall View

Heir To The Pack is a poignant romance that is full of emotional depth, tough choices, strength in overcoming desperate odds, and finding friends in odd places. TRULY MAGICAL AND HEARTWRENCING!!

Secret baby isn’t a theme that I usually go for, but I’m glad you liked this. I have become a bit bored with paranormal romances lately so I may check this one out for something fresh. Thanks for the review!

I’m not a fan of the secret baby trope either but this sounds wonderful.

This sounds good, even though like you the whole secret baby thing isn’t a favorite.

LOL joining the crowd. The secret baby trope usually makes me want to pinch someone on the back of their arm where it really hurts. Now. Hearing she did it well? I could get into that. That sounds like a much better set up than the ones where they do so on purpose. I’ve got one of her others on my tbr review pile. Will have to check it out 🙂
