1380 A.D. - The great-grandson of the legendary William de Wolfe is not as his family had hoped; although a man of legendary skill and strength, like his great-grandfather, Gates de Wolfe is something of a legendary rake as well. A man with an eye for women, he has left a string of broken hearts all across England and rumors of at least two bastards, possibly more. But Gates is also a man of humor, charm, and great charisma, making it difficult for women to resist him and making it even more difficult for men to despise him because he is such a likable character. Moreover, in battle, he is a destroyer - a knight without equal. He is a man to be feared.

Lady Kathalin de Lara is part of the mighty House of de Lara, great marcher lords. A young lady who has been educated in a convent, she is rather naive in the ways of men. When Gates meets Kathalin, he treats her with surprising respect. She is different from other women he has known and because he greatly respects the woman's uncle, a close friend, Gates makes no attempt at another conquest. He treats her with great regard. But in that regard, and in declaring she is out of bounds for his usual conquering ways, a seed of attraction for her sprouts. Gates, unexpectedly, begins to have real feelings for the lovely Lady Kathalin.

But his reputation as a rake works against him. No decent family, including the House of de Lara, will permit him to seriously court one of their daughters, and Kathalin's family denies his suit. For a spoiled, cavalier man who has always gotten what he wanted, Gates must face the reality that he must actually fight for what he wants and fight for a love he never knew he could feel.

Join Kathalin and Gates on an impossible adventure of life, love, discovery, and devotion that only angels dare to dream of.

Dark Destroyer is a story I was really excited to read, and I have to say that this author never ceases to make me fall in love with her characters. This story features the descendants of the de Wolf clan and the other families connected as well. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like this book to be honest, it did start out a bit slow but that could have been the narrator, I am not sure. However once I really started to listen to this book, I became so hooked.

Our heroine, Lady Kathalin, was sent away by her parents when she was just a child to the convent and hasn’t heard anything from them since. Gates de Wolfe, has been working as the lead knight for the de Lara family for years, and has led many battles to victory. His liege sends him on a mission to bring back his daughter home upon his wife’s request. Kathalin has been raised in the convent and wants to commit fully to the church, its been the only home she has ever known. So when she is forced to leave she is NOT thrilled about the prospect of returning to her family who hasn’t shown any love or affection at all in her life. Even though at first she hates Gates de Wolfe, she begins to understand his loyalty to her father and there is something more she sees in him. Gates is quite a rake, with a few bastards he has left behind. He doesn’t want to ever be forced into a marriage and he hasn’t truly cared about the consequences. But when he meets Kathalin, he meets a woman that he wants more than a simply night in bed. He sees a woman who is kind and generous and has a healing art. She is passionate and true to herself and he realizes he has never admired anyone as much as he admires his lady Kathalin. But her parents have different plans for her. Right when Kathalin and Gates realize their deep love for each other, they assume her parents will be supportive of the match but it turns out to be wrong. Because Kathalin’s parents wish to tie her to a different man so they can have a certain alliance with a certain family. Now their love is forbidden and Gates will have to make a difficult choice: the woman he loves or to choose honor and duty and to protect all three families involved.

This story was such a emotional rollercoaster for me, oh my goodness, I was so swept up in their romance and seeing them find their HEA was torment because you see how much that they love each other, and that everyone around them could care less if they are happy including the third man “Alexander” , Gates best friend and the man that Kathalin’s parents want her to marry. We see some truths revealed about Kathalin’s parents and the motivation behind them seeking such a marriage. But I would like to add how wonderful this story was and that there is HEA, but its hard fought and guaranteed to bring a tear or two to your eyes, seeing them find happiness after such conflict in thinking they would never see each other again.

I found this to be a splendid romance and another treasure from this author that I am in love with and highly recommend. I LOVE her writing style and she just makes medieval era so appealing and full of life.
