Once upon a time, there was this pampered rich girl who was kind of full of herself. She really only cared about appearances and hiding all her dark, ugly secrets under the guise of an opinionated snob. But then Eva Mercer got pregnant, shot by a psycho, and kicked out of the only home she knew. Now she’s broke, unemployed, and has to start anew with a newborn to raise. But how?
On the other side of town, sexy, tattooed orphan, Patrick Ryan, can’t get a break. He’s out on parole for defending the last damsel in distress while trying to help her support her child, but all he wants is to find his one true love. He knows this woman by scent, smile, and laugh, but he’s never actually met her. He doesn’t even know her name. He just knows she’s the key to fixing everything.
One kind of hero can save you from physical harm. Another can rescue you from a different kind of doom. To reach their dreams, Eva and Pick can save each other. But first, they must open their hearts and learn how to trust.

My Review

Summary

Eva Mercer, to hide her true past, became self centered and full of herself, she had to make sure no one would ever suspect her dark secret. But when she becomes pregnant, her boyfriend ditches her, and her parents kick her out when she refuses to get an abortion. So she stays with her cousin and her boyfriend, and she knows that this is a new start for her, but she has no clue where to start, she has nothing except a child that needs a mother to love and care for her. Patrick Ryan, is on parole, and can’t afford to be seen breaking any law or ordinance. He has married a friend, to help her overcome her addiction to drugs, and to care for her newborn son, who he considers to be his own. Years previous he had a vision of his Tinker Bell, a woman of beauty and courage, his other half, and he saw the children they would have together and certain details that would let him know that she was his. While at work at the bar, he sees a pregnant young woman stroll in, and he knew that she was his Tink, but he can’t ever have her because he is married to someone else, even if he plans on annulling it at his earliest opportunity. Will Tink and Pick be able to hold on to each other or lose each other forever?

The Hero

Patrick Ryan, is an orphan, and was in foster care most of his life. He has never known the family life or true love, but he knows he will have it one day. He finds himself married to a woman he considers to be his sister, and he has a child to care for, a son that he considers to be his own and will do everything in his power to keep him. Pick is the hero you would love to marry one day. He is affectionate, hard-working, proud, kind and caring, and stands up for those he loves. He doesn’t let anyone run over him and dictate his life for him. Even though he has made mistakes, he doesn’t have regrets that eat at his soul.

The Heroine

Eva Mercer, is a heroine that we see change in this story. When we first meet her in Price of a Kiss, she is conceited, self-centered, and quite the snob. Seems not to care about anyone or anything but herself and her own needs. So if you have read the first book, you might get a bit nervous in trying this story out, but trust me it is worth it to see the change in Eva. From the beginning I grew to like her quite a bit. You see that there is more to her that what she lets people think. You see that she is hiding a dark secret (a secret that quite frankly when revealed shocked me), and you start to understand her even better. That she hides who she really is behind a fake mask. But once she learns that she is pregnant she changes from a self-centered woman to a woman who wants to be the best mother, to support and love her child. I loved how devoted she was to her unborn child, how she wants to be the kind of mother her daughter would be proud of and wants to be a positive influence on those around her.

Plot and Story Line

Be My Hero begins with seeing Eva with her cousin Reese and her boyfriend Mason. Which was quite fun seeing these two more, since they just might be my favorite couple so far. We then get to see all of the other characters involved, Ten, Quinn, and Noel. We see some dramatics that happen in the second book, but in a different point of view, which was very interesting to see. We also get to see a side to Pick you don’t see in the other books in the series. Man how I love this hero…he is delicious in every way. From the beginning we see how he is with an infant…and oh my…would I marry him just with the way he is with his son…its so precious and just breaks your heart. What is really heartbreaking though is when he meets his Tink just right after he has gone to the courthouse to marry someone he doesn’t love in any passionate way. This is where the conflict of their relationship comes in. When his “wife” leaves (and the way she does it made me want to murder her myself), the child needs someone to watch him, so Eva (Tink) agrees to. And they begin a friendship of sorts, but soon the desire they feel for each other, explodes and they can resist one another but they don’t act on it fully even if they want to. What we really see in Be My Hero is a story of love that may not have a happy ending. We see the emotional turmoil and the testing of character. We see the inner strength and fortitude these two have to just enjoy the little time they may have together. We see the development of a love story

The Cover

I love the color contrast of the cover…with the red and bright blue and the black background. Not my favorite cover of the series, but I love how it centers on the heroine and her circumstances, which is a good portion of the book.

Overall View

Be My Hero is a wonderful addition to this series that has won my heart with each book. It’s a story of sacrifice, love, and destiny. A tale that gives you a glimpse of family life, of a romance so sweet and perfect…a wonderful blending of heartwarming romance to knock you off your feet!! AMAZING!!

Favorite Quotes

“Excuse me? Are you saying I’m not flirt-worthy? You know, I am almost already down to my pre-pregnancy weight, and my breasts are like twice the size they normally are. Any other heterosexual man on earth would totally hit on this right now.”
“Tink, you are the most flirt-worthy girl I know,” Pick spoke up … “Get yourself something to eat. Then come back and sit by me. I’d be happy to hit on you.”

——————————

“Tink, you are the best thing that’s ever happened to that kid. I don’t care if he only has one day left with you or twenty, you just keep doing whatever you’re doing until you have to go, and I will forever worship the ground you walk on. Because a little slice of heaven is better than none at all.”

—————————–

He caught my hip, steadying me. “This’ll change everything,” he broke away from my mouth to say. “Once I’m inside you, you’re mine, I’m yours, and we are together. There will be no friendship and mild dating. It’s going to be all or nothing.”
I gazed up into his eyes. “Then make me your all.”
His eyes heated. “You always were.”

That is one of the most original romance scenarios I’ve read. And it’s fun when an author takes a not so likeable character and makes them the hero/heroine.
