New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout delivers the unforgettable story of a woman whose new life has just begunβ€”but may end in murder...

Julia Hughes has always played it safe until she learned a very painful lesson. Now Julia’s starting over with a job in the Louisiana bayouβ€”and a scorching encounter with a stranger, only to discover he’s Lucian de Vincent... her new employer. The de Vincent brothers share a massive fortune and a dark reputation. Julia cares for their troubled sister, but a menacing presence in the mansionβ€”and the ever-present temptation of Lucianβ€”prove dangerously distracting.

Lucian’s grandmother claimed de Vincent men fall in love onceβ€”and hard. Apparently, it’s Lucian’s turn. Julia’s compassionate care of his twin makes Lucian want to lay himself bare. But some secrets are better for Julia not to know.

The recent β€œsuicide” of Lucian’s father is the latest in a string of deaths on the estate. Someone is eliminating the de Vincents. And the best way to get to Lucian may be through Julia...

Moonlight Sins takes us down the roads of mysteries, old money, and ghosts that roam that halls and a spicy love story that grabs your attention!! A tale that will have you aching for the next book.Β

Jennifer L Armentrout is a fantastic author and I have always had an admiration for her work and I just love her style of writing, its the type of writing that you can look forward to because its so easy to fall into. I was really intrigued by the style of this new series. I have only read New Adult from her before, so I was curious how she would handle Contemporary romance with hints of a gothic theme set in New Orleans which is the perfect setting for a CR gothic romance and this book gave me all the tingles I love to experience in a solid romance and this became one of my favorites of the year so far.

Our fabulous key players are:

  • Lucien de Vincent, is the youngest of the brothers and a twin. He is dark and edgy and sensual. He is part of a family that has old money, more money than most people can imagine.
  • Julia Hughes, works with those in need at assistant homes. She has a compassionate heart and is kind and thoughtful. She never has flings, and is recovering from an emotionally draining marriage and her divorced husband that won’t stop bothering her.

Moonlight Sins is one of those books that you will always remember for the one reason in the UNIQUE style that it portrays. I have so much love for this author, and she always delivers and she definitely delivered in this book. I will be honest I didn’t know what to expect in this one….a gothic style romance in New Orleans, when I have only read her college romance themes yeah, I didn’t know what to really expect from this book but it definitely outwon any expectations I may have had previously.

It starts out when Lucien and his brothers find their father hanging from a ceiling fan, making it appear that he comitted suicide but none of them believe he would ever be capable of that. Their sister Maddie, has returned after ten years of being missing and can barely speak or move and they need a nurse. They find the ideal nurse, but Lucien is Maddie’s twin and much more protective of his sister.

So he heads over to where Julia is living, and meets up with her at the bar. Even though Julia is not one to have casual sex EVER, in fact this is the first time she throws caution to the wind and allows herself to enjoy the moment of the powerful chemistry she feels for this sexy southern man. She never expected that he would turn up to be her boss. But Lucien, knows that Julia is perfect for the job. And not just because she has the perfect training, but also because she is genuine and sincere. She really cares about others and he has never known anyone with such compassion and heart. He convinces her to stay on and likes to play with Julia and goes on “full seduction” mode.

I truly I LOVED their relationship, it was so sensual and swoony and I just wanted more of them. I rarely see this type of relationship in a contemporary romance so this book had such a fesh look to it. Honestly, these type of “courtships” you really only see in historical. So seeing this style in a contemporary romance just thrilled me to my toes. It does help that they live in the same home even if that “home” is a huge mansion that creaks and moans and has a haunting feel to it. The focus of the story is the romance between Lucien and Julia. We do get some interesting and complex add ons with the brothers and honestly at first I didn’t know what to make of the siblings. There was something different going on with the sister, and you don’t find out till the end what really makes her a true mystery. And boy the ending is one of the BEST I have ever read. There was so many surprises and shocks that I didn’t know what to think of it to be honest. But in a good way. I love an author that gives a good twist at the end without taking away from the love story or the “happy ending”.

β€œI want to know about you,” he spoke before she could, and then shifted closer, his knee pressed into her thigh once more. β€œI have questions. I’m made of them.”

She gave a little laugh as she shook her head. β€œThere’s nothing more to know about me than what you already know.”

β€œThere’s literally everything to know about you,” he insisted. β€œWhere did you go to school? What really made you take a job like this one where you leave everything behind?”

β€œI went to Shippensburg University. You’ve probably never heard of it.” Like she’d ever answer that last question. Finishing off her tea, she smiled faintly. β€œIt’s really late and I do need to get to sleep. Thank you for the tea. I think it will work.”

β€œBut I haven’t asked you the most important question.”

Slipping off the stool, she let her hair fall forward, past her breasts. β€œAnd what is that?”

β€œHow can you be here and be the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen?”

Julia’s head swung to his so fast she thought her it would fall right off her shoulders.

Everything about the tone of his voice and the slightly wide eyes of his said he was being

genuine, but he couldn’t be serious. Her gaze sharpened. Was he drinking something harder than chamomile? Because there was no way in the world that he truly believed that she was the most beautiful creature he’d ever seen.

The question burned to the tip of her tongue. If he thought she was so beautiful then why did he walk away from her that night in her apartment? She swallowed the question so she didn’t have to swallow her pride.

At the end of the day, she knew who Lucian was. He was the kind of guy who couldn’t go a weekend without getting laid. They existed. She’d met a few while in college and when she did her stint at the hospital. They weren’t exactly particular when it came to who’d they be with. Pretty much came down to whoever was available at the time. Which meant she wasn’t going to be impressed with stray compliments that were tossed out as often as the trash was.

Lucian leaned and then spoke in a low voice, β€œThere is another reason why I didn’t tell you who I was.”

The change of subject rattled her and she whispered back. β€œWhy?”

He tilted his head so his mouth was directly above her ear. β€œBecause I knew the moment you’d figured out who I was, you wouldn’t have let me come back to your apartment.”

Exhaling roughly, Julia knew she needed to pull away and stop this conversation. That was the professional and mature thing to do, but she didn’t move. She was frozen on her stool, her heart thumping in her chest.

He wasn’t done yet. β€œI knew that if you realized who I was, you would’ve never let me get my hand between those pretty thighs of yours and I would’ve never known how soft and slick you felt against my fingers.”

A bolt of red-hot lust blasted through her veins as heat poured into her very core. Those words created a storm inside her. A tremble rocked her body.

β€œSo, yeah, that’s another reason why I didn’t say who I was.” His lips brushed the lobe of her ear, sending an illicit shiver across her skin. Pulse pounding, she drew back. She felt unsteady as Lucian straightened on his chair, and she felt so closeβ€”too close to do something irrevocably reckless. Like hopping off her stool and into his lap.

β€œYou’re not supposed to bring that up,” she reminded him. β€œYou promised.”

He tilted his head to the side. β€œI didn’t promise that.”

She opened her mouth.

β€œI didn’t,” he insisted, and when she dragged the conversation back through her thoughts, she realized he was right. He hadn’t.

Her eyes narrowed. β€œEven so, it would be the appropriate thing for you to do.”

β€œAnd I think you already know how I feel about doing the appropriate thing.”

She shook her head. It was way past time to end this conversation. β€œThank you for the tea, Lucian, but—” A gasp cut her off.

Lucian rose and was in front of her so quickly that she was startled. β€œSay it again.”

Confusion swamped her. β€œSay what?”

β€œMy name.”

They were close, and he towered over her by a good foot. Julia reached out, gripping the edge of the island. β€œWhy?”

β€œBecause I asked?” he offered, his lips curving up at the corners. β€œAnd because I like the way it sounds coming from your lips.”

Her heart did a weird little jump. She had no idea how to respond to that request. None whatsoever. But then he moved. He reached into the small place between them, catching the piece of her hair that had fallen across her cheek. Before she could move away, the back of his hand dragged across her cheek as he tucked the hair behind her ear. Her stupid, stupid body immediately responded once more.

I didn’t like this one very much which was said because I usually love JLA’s adult romance. I don’t think I’ll be reading book two, given that brother’s surprisingly little situation. I’m not good with that trope. ??? Great review, Renee!

    Have a wonderful day. =)

I’ve read many books by JLA, especially YA and while I enjoyed them in the beginning, I feel like the more I read from her, the more tired got of them because all of her main characters are the same. So, I haven’t tried anything new from her in a while. BUT, you make this one sound so good, so now I’m very curious and feel like I need to pick it up to see Lucian go in full seduction mode! πŸ˜‰

Great review! I’m so glad you loved this one as well! It was such a departure from what JLA’s done in the past but it was every bit as emotionally intense and smexy. πŸ˜‰ I’m glad you picked up on the almost old fashioned feel to their courtship. Well, after a very, very steamy beginning. *fans face* Can’t wait for book two!

Thank you hun. I adored this book and so sexy. And I loved the old fashioned feel since you never see this style in a contemporary and boy the ending right? Man that really worked me. And yeah the beginning, whoohee this author definitely pulled all the stops for this one.
