My Favorite brideWhen Miss Samantha Prendregast arrives at Devil’s Fell to take charge of six rebellious girls, the vibrant, outspoken governess is not quite prepared to deal with the tall, dark and dashing master of the grand estate. The children she can manage with intelligence, guile . . . and a little bribery. Their widowed father, Colonel William Gregory, is not so easily charmed — and far too easy to fall in love with, which she dares not do.

William always cherished the orderliness of his life, until this captivating troublemaker began flouting his authority and distracting him with her witty defiance and breathtaking beauty. Despite the fact that they clash at every meeting, William finds himself inexplicably drawn to Samantha’s fire. And now he’s even contemplating marriage, which would be sweet madness indeed.

But before he can successfully woo her, William must discover what it is that Samantha is hiding from him. But the secret the lady is preciously guarding is far too shocking and dangerous to ever reveal .

Why My Favorite Bride?

This is such a wonderful romance, and its always fun to do a re read of this one when I am in the mood for it. It has a “sound of music” theme to the story. A military hero widow and a governess that is bold and takes the children in hand. The chemistry that we have between these two is vibrant and strong. We have some involvement of spies and treachery, mystery and passion. We also see some real issues that come alive on the pages, The secret that our heroine holds, is quite fabulous, in the way that it makes William view the world in a different way. The six little girls are utterly adorable and mischievous. We have a story that is the true epitome of a historical regency romance. Full of emotional depth, romance, and sensuality.

I love Christina Dodd but I think I somehow skipped this book. I am adding this to my TBR pile right away. Great post!

You know, I’ve never ever read Christina Dodd. But this one sounds fun, especially with the Sound of Music feel to it. As much as I absolutely adore historical romance, I am so hesitant to try new authors. It’s silly, and I need to get over it, but I don’t know if I will.

You got me at ‘Sound of Music’ Renee! And I’m very curious about the title, too… who many brides were there? 😉 Thanks for sharing!

Yay!! In the story, the hero is planning of marrying another woman who he believes will be the “perfect wife” for him. Another relation to “the sound of music” too but he has this strong attraction and chemistry with the governess for his children. Its quite fantastic.

I hadn’t heard of this book before, I like how you often pick books I haven’t seen around often if at all. I have watched the sound of music and even been to a musical of it once. And your mention of the mystery and secrets make me curious about this book, it sounds good!
