A stunning historical romance from debut author Sandra Lake transports readers to 12th century Sweden, where a powerful Viking lord will discover a fierce heart cannot be taken by mere force.
Lida was married to the love of her life for just two months when she became a widow. Pregnant and disowned by her late husband’s family for suspected infidelity, she was forced to return to her family in shame. Eight years later, uninterested in the prospect of finding another husband, she finds herself the unwilling object of a marriage contract with a powerful warlord. In a day, she is wed, bed, and put on a ship headed for Tronscar; an unknown icy stone and steel fortress.
Jarl Magnus is pleased to have taken a strong wife who, however stubborn she may be, will surely produce sons. However, he is less pleased with his wife’s additional baggage—a young daughter. But despite himself, Magnus falls for the daughter just as hard as the mother, and Lida’s heart is warmed to see the cold, serious Jarl move surprisingly fast into the role of stepfather.
When enemies attack Tronscar, Jarl Magnus’s nerves of steel waver, as the warrior fears his love for Lida will weaken him. But when his family is threatened, he’ll go to war to protect them, discovering along the way that they have the strength to protect themselves.
Why Warlord’s Wife?
I discovered this book last year and man was it good!! I love me some vikings, but Sandra Lake wrote a fantastic story, with rich characters. I think what I loved about this, is seeing the history come to life without being too harsh as some viking romances tend to be. This is definitely a story that will give you good “feels” from the beginning. If you haven’t tried out a viking romance yet, or are lookiing for one with a more easy going tone—you should pick this one up for sure!!
I think this might be too close to home, geographically speaking 😉 and things would annoy me if they are wrong
I’ve never read a viking romance, before! Thanks for sharing this, Renee.
Did you say viking?!? 😀 I love vikings but have read very few viking romances. Have you read Eire’s Captive Moon? That’s the first on a trilogy – viking romance – and I loved it! I *will* check out The Warlord’s Wife for sure!
oh yes….they are awesome right? Great alphas. I don’t think I have read Captive Moon…but you can betcha I am looking it up. I can never get enough.
Oooh I haven’t tried a viking romance yet 😀
Ooo a Viking..I am loving the setting 🙂
yep!!! They make delicious heroes.
I like the way you describe it. Usually, I’m all for the historical setting feeling authentic, but with the Viking era, I’m good with a rosy romantic glow on it. LOL
This does sound great.
haha yeah sometimes historical settings are a bit rough aren’t they?? We definitely have it easy in modern times in many ways. But this author did great of toning it down a bit without taking too much away. You would like it.
OK so i have never read a Viking romance or had even though about them at all. But now I am totally intrigued 🙂
oh they are fantastic but different!! Great alpha males if you like those. 🙂 But also fun spirited heroines.
I love Vikings though I haven’t read this. It sounds really good. I’m adding it to my wishlist now.
I love me some Vikings too!!! sounds awesome.
