Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at sixteen, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn’t have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.
Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she’d found something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again, this time to find a lost friend. She’s driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it’s her ride to freedom.
Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review.

Runaway Road is the first book in Perry’s latest series “Runaway” and I wasn’t sure I would be picking up these books as soon as I did to be honest. I have quite a few of her other books that I wanted to read as well, BUT ….and this is so vain, the covers! Yep I am so drawn to these covers and it always surprises me how beautiful they are for a independently published author, and all of her covers just draw me in completely and I was also double happy to see my library have a copy of this one. So double WIN in my book. Devney Perry is an author I truly like, I don’t necessarily LOVE her works fully, but they are entertaining and heartwarming and have that small town charm I just gravitate towards.

Now I was running away to find peace. To find the life I needed deep in my soul. To find myself again…

Runaway Road features an heroine, who has been on the run most of her life, running away from problems or complications in life. She was married, and settled into a life of luxury and comfort but she was never truly happy with her husband….but somewhat content. But after she found out he had an affair, she realizes all of the riches in the world would never make her happy, only by finding her own happiness within herself would she find it. So she divorces her husband and goes on the road in search of a childhood sweetheart who was one of her best friends growing up. But when she gets in a accident, and ends up in a rural small town with a sexy mechanic to fix her car, she is drawn to him. But they have very little time together, but during their week, they discover a sweet love and Londyn will need to make a choice….what truly matter and fighting for the one you love

A week. I had a week with this woman, maybe nine or ten days, to soak her in. Then I’d let her go…

Runaway Road was a darling and sweet story that is a very quick fast paced read. Probably the fastest I have ever read one of her books. I couldn’t believe how fast I sped through this but then its not very long of a read at only 250 which felt closer to a novella for me than a novel considering most books I read are closer to 400 pages. But sometimes its refreshing to have these fast paced reads to get you through the day. What I was drawn to the most in this story was apart from the actual romance between Londyn and Brooks…was the friendship with Londyn and her group of friends. The story of Londyn is pretty sad. Horrible home situation, practically raised herself with some other kids and they formed a familial bond to each other and as adult went their seperate ways and live all over the country. So I found this set up so fascinating, and seeing the series feature these other “friends” and their stories in finding their own path.

Don’t forget me.” I whispered. I’d been forgotten by too many people. I couldn’t bear the idea of Brooks forgetting me too.

I’ll remember you until the end, Londyn” Brooks ran his knuckles along my cheek, leaving a trail of sparks on my skins. “Until the end.”

The romance between Londyn and Brooks was super fast paced and almost had the instant love connection feel to it. This book is not very long so maybe that is why? There didn’t seem to be enough space to get more in depth connection between these two….they do have lots and lots of SEX. LOL Which is great, I am not complaining about that, but I would preferred some balance of other elements. But it seemed to fit for them, since they only had a week together and trying to fit all of what they wanted to share together in that one week. Brooks was such a loving hero. I just adore Perry’s heroes’ and they are the type of heroes that are “husband material” –definitely strong, leaders but have that soft underbelly supportive, sweet. So basically a cinnamon roll hero to a T. So if these are your types of heroes, this is definitely one you will love and adore and as a plus he is a great father to a teenage son. The family dynamics in this story is darling and love seeing the relationship between these two.

Overall I found Runaway Road to be a stunning story that fills the heart with comfort, joy and leaves the reader with a contented smile and eager for more on this journey of paving your own path!
