Working together has forged a strong friendship between Melinda York and Mary Muller. So much so, they’re more like sisters. When two men burst into their diner with murder on their minds, Mel doesn’t hesitate to act. She’ll do anything to protect her friend, as well as their New Species customers…especially the one she’s been crushing on for months.
A single act of bravery sparks a series of events that result in Snow getting to know the waitress he’s been obsessively thinking about. He just wants to keep Mel safe. And convince her he’s the male for her.
Mary is the brunt of jokes because of her extreme fear of animals. Phobias aren’t funny. Is she the only one who understands that? When Mel’s actions link them both to New Species, she’d like to hide from those scary men with fangs. That would make her a crappy best friend, though. She’ll try to be brave…right up until the moment she comes face to face with a lion man named Lash. He’ll make her confront her fears in the most unexpected ways possible

Best Friends is the most recent release into the ‘New Species’ series. I have adored this series so much if you are a fan of Lora Leigh’s “Breeds” series than I just know you will adore this one as well. It’s different from the Leigh’s in other ways through which I have really loved seeing the unique differences that set them apart. This story though contains two stories that are connected to each other and I was really happy to see both of them have such beautiful evolvement.

Our book begins with our two heroines Melinda and Mary who work together and have forged a strong friendship stronger than blood bound sisters even. But when a group of “New Species” come into their restaurant and are attacked, Melinda defends them and before she knows it she has a target on her back and she finds herself bonded with Snow and their love match burns quickly but strong. Melinda realizes that what she is building with Snow is worth every moment. Her best friend Mary is terrified of animals and tends to get attacked by a vast array of creatures. No animal likes her and so she is even more fearful of the New Species. While at her friend Melinda’s wedding celebration, she gets lost, fears for her life in a misunderstanding, and ends up in the arms and sanctuary of Lash. Lash is a wild resident and wants Mary as his mate but it will take some work to convince her of his sincerity and devotion.

Both of these stories do pack quite a punch and they do go together but I would recommend reading them in order, it will make much more sense and you will see the beautiful friendship between the women. I will admit that I was so happy to see that Lash finally had a story. I have seen him on occasion in previous books especially involving Valiant. If you love Valiant’s story, trust me Lash needs to be on your list for sure. Both of these stories were hot but also full of such sweet love that satisfied every romantic yearning I look for in my romance novels. Laurann Dohner did a tremendous job with this story and developing these stories together in the manner in how she delved. I had such a blast in immersing myself into Snow and Lash’s book and I keep loving these New Species books even more and more. Looking forward to seeing what is coming up next here.

Overall I found Best Friends to be a whirlwind of two heartfelt stories that sear you with steamy passion and deep surprising emotion which vitalizes the reader in such a profound way.

About Laurann Dohner

I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
