In the world of Pure Ones, where sexual intercourse with anyone other than one’s Eternal Mate leads to a slow, painful death within thirty days, love comes with the warning label “fall at your own peril”…
 Rain: the Healer
From the first time she beheld him, she yearned to sooth his pain and torment and nurtured a secret, selfish desire – to have him for her very own…
Valerius: the Protector
Despite their instant attraction, he has staunchly avoided applying to be the Healer’s Consort, haunted by the brutality and violence of his past…
As the decadal Phoenix Rite draws near, as threats from their vampire nemesis intensify, Rain and Valerius must decide whether they let their histories and duties dictate their destiny or whether they risk all for a chance at everlasting love.

Pure Healing is a book that was recommended to me by “Becca” on Goodreads. As both paranormal romance lovers, I was looking for something new that I hadn’t read before or heard of. And yes I hadn’t heard of Aja James actually, so I grabbed up Pure Healing and dived right into this story. Unfortunately this book I struggled within the first half especially. Now don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed it but there were some plot aspects that really had me struggling with the story.

So lets get into the summary of the story first. Valerius is the hero of the story and termed the “Protector” he has been in love with Rain for many years, but because of the torments of his past has never been to fully embrace a full relationship with her. Rain is the healer of their people and every ten years she takes a consort that gives her strength both from feeding from their blood and sexual intercourse. When Valerius becomes her current consort, a deeper bond forms between them. There has always been such a stunning connection but its never been acted on until now. The truth of Valerius’ past comes to light and puts a damper on their relationship, but as Rain and Valerius work through their issues …..there is an enemy on the rise seeking to destroy them and tension is rising in Rain and Valerius’ relationship.

There is SO much that is going on in this book. Quite frankly if you love J.R. Ward especially with her multiple plot lines than you will love this book. But to be honest I am NOT a fan of multiple plot lines, especially for the first book where you also get so much world-building heaped on the story. So yes it took me almost a WEEK to read this book because I just wasn’t in it until halfway through. But once I read about 55% I was completely hooked into the story. But man, it took me forever to get into it. I really loved the world-building and the unique balance of alpha hero and heroine in the pairings introduced. But I will point out that this world this author has created is so DIFFERENT from anything in paranormal I have ever read. It had such a fresh feel to certain aspects and I soaked those up like a sponge.

You have what she needs, and you’re capable of giving her more than she’d ever bargained for because you love her. Whether she wants it or not, its your gift to give her. True love requires no reciprocation. True love is unconditional.

There is multiple romances in this one, but I am just going to explain the main story because I am sure these other couples are in other books in the series (there are 12 currently, so I have work to do so I can catch up) so the romance between Rain and Valerius was a tough one especially on an emotional level. These two really put each other in the ringer, but I will say my heart just went out to Valerius way more than Rain. Mostly because of the trauma he had faced in his life and Rain I felt could be a bit brutal on an emotional level at times towards him and that rubbed me the wrong way at times. She isn’t a bad heroine, in fact I admired her in many ways. However, she was insensitive to him in many aspects and I really felt like she could have grovelled a bit more, I did feel he deserved a heroine who at least didn’t hurt him so much and she knew the truth of his past very early on in the book. Valerius is the rock of the relationship, how committed he is to Rain, his devotion and zest of love he holds for Rain is breathtakingly beautiful. I really wanted to cry so many times in this book because of the depth of feeling he holds for Rain. One of the BEST heroes  I have EVER read ….top book boyfriends for sure.

You are everything to me….you are my eternity

Overall I found this story to be an edge on your seat read, that will wrap you up like a blanket and have you addicted before you realize it…..a story of eternal love, healing and a riveting sensual passion guaranteed to knock you off your feet!!

About Aja James

Hello readers!

This is Aja (pronounced Asia). Welcome to my site!

A bit about myself:

I’ve been writing stories since the age of six, and novels since the age of thirteen. Can’t say that those early efforts were particularly good, but I sure loved putting them down on paper! And whether I document them or not, stories are forever forming and expanding and interconnecting in my head.
