Former Navy fighter pilot. Son of a congressman. Successful businessman in my own right. With a résumé like mine, women have never been a challenge.
Until I met her.
This sexy, tatted-up bad girl wasn’t part of my plans, but that punch to my gut every time I see her tells me I have to know more. She’s a mystery. An enigma. A challenge.
I’m going to figure her out — and then I’m going to make her mine. We’ll find out what she’s hiding... beneath this mask.
Beneath This Mask is a book that I saw a raving review of from Michele @ Harlequin Junkie and I just had to read this one. What I was really drawn into was the fact that this book could be read as a stand alone (which if you know Meghan March, she does love her cliff hangers) Michele never gives me a bad recommendation EVER. Every single book I read that she recommends I fall in love with and Beneath This Mask was no different. I was really hooked on this story and didn’t want to put this one down here.
Beneath This Mask begins with our heroine, Charlotte. Her father gets sent to prison when he steals money from thousands of innocents and Charlotte wants to escape the limelight so she changes her name and moves to New Orleans and works in a tattoo parlour. Her life has become different, from growing up in a home in New York with lots of money, and now she is more content with her life even though she is in hiding. But then her life is thrown into chaos when she meets Simon who is highly connected but she is drawn to Simon because he isn’t your normal politician. Simon wants Charlotte, he is drawn to her and even though he knows she is running from her past, he is falling hard for her but just needs to convince her to take a chance on the potential of what they could be together but her past is going to push their love to a test….
I adored this book so much here and I was really drawn into this trope and even though the heroine is keeping a secret, you understand why she keeps the truth from the hero here and I really admired her strength and the hero’s determination to let her get away from him or run away from what she is feeling when they are together. There is such chemistry between these two but there is also a great intimacy that develops between these two and I was really drawn into this side of their relationship. I adored the hero, Simon, he was delectable and so in with Charlotte and so comitted to her. Definitely not a playboy and I LOVED his character so much.
The heroine, is wonderful too, and even though I wished that she had shared the truth with Simon earlier than when the truth is revealed, you understand her fears and reservations on why she doesn’t reveal the truth to Simon because she wants to fix her own mess and the mess that her father created and I loved that we see how she saves herself and finds her own way back to Simon!!
Overall I found Beneath This Mask to be a fantastic novel by Meghan March. A story about secrets, fighting for the one you love and staying true to yourself….truly SUPERB in every way!!!
