New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh returns to her world of angelic rulers, vampiric servants, and the woman thrust into their darkly seductive world...Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux wakes from a year-long coma to find herself changed—an angel with wings the colors of midnight and dawn—but her fragile body needs time to heal before she can take flight. Her lover, the stunningly dangerous archangel, Raphael, is used to being in control—especially when it comes to the woman he considers his own. But Elena has never done well with authority. They've barely begun to understand each other when Raphael receives an invitation to a ball from the archangel, Lijuan. To refuse would be a sign of fatal weakness, so Raphael must ready Elena for the flight to Beijing—and to the nightmare that awaits them there. Ancient and without conscience, Lijuan holds a power that lies with the dead. And she has organized the most perfect and most vicious of welcomes for Elena.
This book continues off pretty soon after the first book. Our heroine Elena is learning how to fight and learning to strengthen her wings so that she can learn to fly. They have two months to have her ready to meet one of the oldest of their kind and the most powerful. And Raphael and Elena need to be ready for any trick she may pull including trying to kill them. Elena is considered a “baby” and weak and can be killed pretty easily. But Elena is just as fierce in this book as she is in the first one. This story isn’t as intense in building of plot and suspenseful moments, but it goes on a different take and one that I really liked. We see more focus on the emotional bonds between Raphael and Elena. The sexual tension between these two is enough to start a fire or more, boy these two have some wicked chemistry and see more focus on that in this story. Which is what I loved most about it, was seeing these two really come together in the way they both needed to. The supporting characters were unique and some of them were some bat crazy, we fall in love with a little boy angel and we get more of the “seven” and Elena holds her own where they are concerned. Overall this is a couple to keep your eye one…excited to see what the next book brings to us!!
Question To The Readers:
Have you read this series? What do you think of Raphael and Elena?
“They didn’t understand that she held his heart, held it so utterly that there was nothing he wouldn’t do, no line he wouldn’t cross to keep her safe.

“We’ll build our own home.”
The promise curled around her heart, a vivid ray of sunlight. “In Manhattan?”
“Of course.” A slow, slow smile. “What kind of mansion would you like?”
Damn, but the archangel was playing with her again. The sunshine grew, filled her veins.
“Actually, I kind of like yours.” She slid her arms around his neck. “Can I have it? Oh, and can I have Jeeves, too? I’ve always wanted a butler.”
“Yes.”
She blinked. “Just like that?”
“It’s only a place.”
“We’ll make it more,” she promised, her mouth to his. “We’ll make it ours.”

“But you, you’ve always been the rain, the wind, inside my mind. I taste you when I sleep, when I wake, when I breathe.”
I am so in love with this series,Renee! I have read all of the books that are released, and with each installment, I love the universe, the characters, and the writing even more!
I think I found Elena a little crazy at the beginning of the series, because Raphael was one scary angel! So strong, and not really taking human opinions into account…
I hope you’ll keep on enjoying tis one 🙂
Have a fantastic Friday and happy reading.
I have only read the first one *gah* I need to get back into the story. I really enjoyed it and sounds like book 2 just picked right on up 🙂
I started the Psy Changeling series and have read the Rock Kiss series she has written.
I likes the Psy CHangelings a little better. Love the new look!
I love this series particularly b/c of the strong foundation with Raphael and Elena’s story first. Glad you are enjoying it too. Nice quote choices and nice review, Renee!
I have read the first two books, but I think I didn’t enjoy this second book much and then stopped the series. It was a bti too violent and distrubign for me. I think I did enjoy the couple. Great review!
