2022 Reading Stats + 2023 Reading/Blogging Goals

by | Dec 31, 2022 | End of Year Survey | 6 comments

HAPPY NEW YEAR to 2023! Can you believe that we have reached a New Year? I feel like 2022 just breezed by. I do think as I get older, the years just go by faster. This year I wanted to share my reading stats for the year. Now, officially, this is the first post that I have done to share my exact stats for the year. I will also be sharing my bookish goals for 2023 as well. But I wanted to share my total stats for the year in various areas and if I accomplished my goals for the year. This is actually the first year I have fully used a spreadsheet to track everything and I can tell you I LOVED using a spreadsheet and seeing the numbers grow over the year and seeing them from month to month. So I will be sharing all of my charts from my spreadsheet for you.

2022 Reading Stats

Yearly Totals Basics:

Books Read: 451

Books Re Read: 26

Books Acquired: 42

Pages Read: 118,126 (with an average of 323 pages read each day)

Average Rating: 4.2

Book Size and Format:

So for this section is the books size, format and how I acquired the book. My largest amount of books and pages read was in May with it being over 15,000 pages read. As you can see I tend to read pretty equally of KU and library reads which does make sense. Then I do some purchased books but that is a smaller amount but I was good this year in reading books I already owned! For the total year my average of pages tended to be around 350-400! As I read mostly novels which always tend to be between 300-400 I am not surprised by that. Although I was good about reading books bigger than that as well. Its no surprise that digital books comprise of my majority of reading. I am not a big fan of reading print that much.

My Longest Book Read: Anastasia at 800 Pages

Longest Audiobook: Kulti at 973 Minutes

Shortest Book: Contemporary Mythos Valentine at 51 Pages

Shortest Audiobook: The Package

Book Genres

This was interesting to see what genres I tended to lean towards and yes I read a lot more contemporary than other sub genres. That is a goal for 2023 to have it be more balanced. I definitely want to get more PNR and Suspense in for next year especially. Those were a lot less than I thought I would read.

Ratings

I am not shocked by this evaluation at all. 4 stars are my most common rating this year although I had a read good amount of five and 4.5 stars! That was one of my goals, is to pick up books that would be closer to 5 stars and I was really lucky that I had so many favorites this year! And hardly anything lower than that and my DNF’s amount was pretty low in comparison to how many books I actually read. As I think I was at 15, which is good considering I read over 450 books. I don’t give out 1 or 1.5 stars. Normally if its going to be a 1 star, its a DNF haha

Publishers and Sources

Now as you can see on here Its good to seeing what years I tend to read the most of and what publishers I stick with the most! As you can see I do read quite a bit of self published works, it takes about half my reading. But the publishers I tend to stick with is Berkley and Avon. And then a mix of everything else.

Books Read by Monthly Look

As you can see here, the beginning of the year was lower, and then once I hit May I really had such a crazy year of reading. It was just so good for me in both books physically read and audiobooks listened to.

Stats Details on Books and Authors Read:

Authors

# of Authors Read: 205

Most Read Author: Kristen Ashley

Debut Authors: 12

New To Me Authors: 61

For authors, I really got to so many good ones. My most read is Kristen Ashley, I have really been working through her backlist a ton though. So that makes sense, and I am almost done with her books that I haven’t read actually. I should finish her up in 2023.

Series

Number of Series: 238

Standalone: 57

!st Books: 35

2nd Books: 24

3rd Books: 17

4th or Higher: 263

As you can see my series definitely win over my standalonnes. I am not a fan of standalones at all, I much prefer series or sagas.

Diversity

So this section is just interesting to see how much I have read. I don’t seek out diverse books, but I do stumble across it all the time without meaning to actually. My total for diverse books read is: 102. Which is pretty good as I am not intentionally going out to seek them. And considering how great my reading was, this is how I prefer it to be honest. Any time I read just for diversity sake, I tend to not enjoy the books as much. But this year the majority of the diverse books I read were so fantastic and I just had a better reading experience. As I read all over the genre, I run into diversity all the time. It is about 25% of my reading so that isn’t horrible.

Genres

So the numbers I have is what I got for the genres that I read. There are some that I need to focus more on. But I was pretty good about some of the others.

Contemporary: 138

Dark Romance: 65

Historical: 61

PNR: 45

Romantic Suspense: 35

Mythological Fantasy: 19

Romantic Comedy: 13

Urban Fantasy: 10

Inspirational: 7

Sci Fi: 6

2023 Reading/Blogging Goals

So I can’t tell you how excited I am to start a new year. Its so weird how the shift happens right? How like last week I wasn’t ready for the year to be over but now I am totally HYPED for it! I definitely have some good stuff planned to celebrate. I know as adults holidays don’t always connect with us, but I try to always celebrate them and try to keep that excitement alive for them. So I am keeping my goals to a minimum and they are pretty basic.

Read MORE books and LOVE what I read! So this past year my goal was 300 but I got to 450! I am hoping my vibe will keep going with this. So I am actually planning on 500 but I would mind getting a bit higher than that. We shall see. My other goal is to always pick up epic romances to just deliver on the five stars for me.

Have FUN with my Reading Challenges so this is something that I want to be better at. To not let reading challenges stress me out. I am keeping it more simple this year and just focusing on the Romanceopoly Reading Challenge. It’s a big challenge and I am going all out with it, so its the challenge I mostly want to focus on this year.

Buddy Reads: I want to focus on doing these more this year. I was able to do a few this past year and had a blast with it! So if you ever want to do a buddy read let me know!

I was surprised your PNR wasn’t higher. I don’t know why I felt you read more from that genre. You definitely killed your reading challenge. Nice job! Good luck with all your reading challenges and I hope 2023 is another banner year for you
