Tea and Biscuits Book Discussions: Which E Reader Do You Love The Most?

There are quite a few e readers out there now a days, and many different ways you can read e books! When I first started looking for one, it was just kindle or the nook. That was it!! Of course, this was when e books were just coming out, and back then I was strolling around B&N, and I came across the Nook Color. So I bought it, because back then its not like I had 2 day shipping with Amazon and just didn’t want to wait a couple of weeks for a reader. So I grabbed up what was more convenient really and I had always respected the brick book sellers. I really liked it for the most part. Then Barnes and Noble started to come out with more tablet formats of NOOKs, and I started to dislike e reading at times. I am not a fan of reading on Tablets, and so with lots of frustration over the past couple of years I decided to switch to the Kindle. Which I love better. I wish I had tried the Ink E Readers earlier, and I don’t know why I didn’t. Many complain about the lack of color. But they aren’t suppose to have color from the research I have done. But whichever type of e reader you go with, you need to love. There are pros and cons to both kinds whether its a tablet or e reader. Each company does them different.

Ink E Readers:Β

61HyaQ+pAsL._SL1000_Amazon has four different ink e readers: so if you want to go through a kindle ou definitely have to choose which one works for you. I chose the paperwhite, since its still the most popular of them and most affordable with what it offers. The Voyage and Oasis have the same software as the paperwhite does but have a different light and screen and the oasis has a better battery life. But I have noticed that the paperwhite still has a good battery life. If you have a kindle—which one do you have and what do you love or hate about it? Personally, I just received it this week, so still playing around with it, but I have already read three books on it and LOVE the experience of it. Its so different and I even found a way to transfer my nook books to kindle which was great. I love how during the day, on zero light it looks like a printed book. Its definitely very different from what I am used to. Β And its way lighter than any e readerΒ or tablet I have ever had. I think even my iphone. Barnes and Noble and Kobo both have ink e readers as well. I didn’t really look into Kobo that much, the only advantage it has over the others is the fact that it is waterproof…but I do know of a companyΒ That can waterproof your kindle for you but it takes over a month. I do know that there are others ways to waterproof, for example I have a friend that has a kindle, so when she wants to read in the tub, she just puts hers in a sealed zip locΒ bag and it protects it perfectly. Because the screen is different from tablets, so you can still turn pages through the plastic. Then B&N have the Glow—this is a popular one, and I did think about getting this one. However with the changes B&N have been making for the digital items, I decided against it. Personally, what I likeΒ about Amazon over the other book sellers, is the variety of books they have.

TabletsΒ

Now Tablets can be neat to have especially if you get a Fire or an Ipad or even the Nook has a nice look to it. But they are VERY distracting for readers. At least they have been for me. I have had the Nook Tablet for two years now, and I have become frustrated, because the focus is not books or reading. Its more apps. Those are nice, but for me personally, I have a phone and I have all apps I need or want on there. I didn’t really have to think much about the Fire, to be honest. It has a good price, but like I said Tablets aren’t designed for reading. But they can be nice if you are on a long trip and you want to play a game or watch a movie. It just depends on the person, and what they are looking for.

So my question for my readers are:Β

What E Reading type do you love Tablet or Ink E Reader?

What device to you love the most? Kindle or a NOOK—-Or are you a Kobo fan or like using the diversity of a Tablet?

  1. About Happy Books

I had an ereader by Sony in the past but rarely used it. Right now I’m reading ebooks on my smartphone and Mac, but the first is too small and the second is too big. I plan to get an iPad mini in the future, it has the right size and fits better to what I want than a pure ereader.

    Happy Reading!

I haven’t read anything with Sony. I do use my iphone, but its just not the right size and my battery drains quickly. IPad Mini’s are good though, I do know they have a sort of e reader in them that is good for reading books.

I had a Kindle Fire and I hated it. I just wanted to read but it did all this other stuff I didn’t need and I it was bright. I now have the Paperwhite and I LOVE it.

I also use my Galaxy tablet for files I can’t read on my Kindle but it’s kind of hard on my wrists if I read for a long time.

I can see that about a Kindle Fire, its a tablet and tablets are horrible to read on. I am glad you love the paperwhite too. I love how alike to printed books it looks like and its so easy on the eyes. If they are regular files, you can use Calibre (its free) and converts it into any file you need it including Mobi which is what kindle files are πŸ™‚

I prefer print above all else but for ebooks, I have my trusty Kobo…on occasion, when a book isn’t available anywhere but Amazon, I read in my Kindle app on my PC only takes longer because it’s about comfort and I already spend more than my fair share in front of the computer. πŸ™‚

I agree about print books!! I do like the feel and smell and the experience of them. Glad you like the kobo, but I like to read alot of older romance too, and Amazon has way more in that department than B&N or Kobo do. But I love that their e reader is waterproof. So neat.

I love my Kindle Paper white so much. I still do read on my phone quite a bit though but prefer my Kindle.

AWESOME!!! I am really loving the paperwhite. I wonder why it took me so long to pick it up…the e ink is so much better than any tablet. It feels like I am reading printed paper and not on a reader. And Amazon has a great book selection.

I use my kindle but when I starts to get low on battery I pick up my tablet.

Yeah I do wish the battery was better. I didn’t want to spend $300 on a e reader for the Oasis. Especially since the software is the same as all the other versions of the kindle. But I love how they fit perfectly in your hands. Tablets are way heavier and bulky at times.

oh that so does suck, especially if you want one!! πŸ™ I just got mine this week and it is so good. I get that about adobe reader, it always was a hassle to read ARC’s on my nook, because it was a complicated mess just to do one book.

Definitely ink reader, I think! Tablets are too harsh on the eyes. I also have a paperwhite and love it!!

I agree—-the brightness is too much. It takes me longer to read on a tablet than in printed form. Love having a ink reader though….its the best way to read books in a e format.

Well, my e-reading experience is limited to a Kindle Fire that is the second oldest model. It was the latest and greatest when it came out and it was my Christmas gift that year. I figure I’ll use it until it doesn’t function. πŸ™‚ I have nothing to compare it to other than my reading apps on computer and phone. To me it is wonderful b/c I have a huginormous library on it and most of my e-ARCs. It has lots of options and I suppose for others that is distracting, but for me, I just use it as an e-reader and for going to the store to click another book. πŸ™‚ I also don’t have trouble with glare or brightness, but it can get heavy so I have a special pyramid shaped lap pillow that ‘holds’ it for me.

I do like your discussion of what is available so that if I do need to replace, I can figure out what is comfortable for my needs.

oh that’s neat though!! I have heard many great things about the Kindle Fire. I am like you….my library is pretty big, probably not as huge as yours but still quite a good size. But what I like about the kindle more than a tablet, is the e ink, which is a very different experience while reading. Its way easier on the eyes and I love the detail.

I’ve had a Nook for the longest time and I really like reading on it though I admit it can be a pain when it comes to purchasing books sometimes as well as transferring ARCs. The battery is the greatest though! I’m thinking about investing in a Kindle once my Nook dies out though. I agree that tablets are super distracting. And I don’t like the look of it either.

oh I agree…its why I switched. Sometimes it would take days to get my e book. And such a hassle to get ARC’s to my nook. I do agree…the battery is pretty good. I had the tablet one for a few years, and it was a pain at times. It started having issues, so I had to look into another e reader. But I would recommend the kindle for sure.

The glare on tablets are SO annoying, especially when your trying to read. And I do recommend the kindle e reader, because it has e ink which makes it way easier to read and you can read anywhere. And it looks pretty close to print which is cool. I do love how much space it holds for books though. Since you don’t have to worry about apps or anything like that. Thanks for stopping by for the discussion. πŸ™‚

If I’m reading an ebook I read on my iPad, but it isn’t particularly enjoyable. It’s heavy, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped it on my nose and wow that hurts. I really want a Kindle Voyage, but I can’t quite justify the expense because I CAN read on my iPad.

That is how I felt about my nook tablet. So HEAVY and just a pain to read at times. The price of the oasis and voyage is pretty expensive, its why I got the paperwhite…its the same software. It just didn’t seem worth all that extra money.

Neat!!! Yeah batteries such sometime. Even on the paperwhite, it doesn’t last as long as they say. Since I read way more than they say to when wanting to extend it. But I can make it last close to a week without charging. Much better than my tablet or phone *grins*

I have a kindle fire (I’m anti-B&N) and it’s not bad. It works nicely and no problems when charging though I tend to forget to hook it up to the charger. lol I tend to read more on my cell phone on the kindle app just because it’s convenient and ALWAYS with me.

Thats neat…I have heard some great things about the Kindle Fire’s. I used to like B&N, but the past few years I have not been liking them especially when it comes to digital titles and the Nook. Its not what it used to be. But I wanted to try something new and different that would be easy on the eyes and I knew I wanted to go with Amazon since their book selection is pretty fantastic. And loving it so far, I have just breezed through so many books already since the e ink is so much better and easier to read. Thanks for stopping by for the discussion. πŸ™‚

I’m a e-ink e-reader type of person. I spend a lot of time on the computer. So reading afterwards on a tablet just strains my eyes.

I have both the Nook Glowlight and the Kindle Paperwhite. While I do enjoy them both, I think the Kindle allows for an easier reading experience. The Nook uses ePub, which is the more common format for ebooks. That means on the Nook you can read books from various sources as long as it’s ePub. However, it does require you to connect your Nook to your computer through a USB cord. The Kindle on the other hand has it’s own email associated with it so to speak. So books can be sent wirelessly, which makes downloading eARCs and library books so much easier. It may sound silly or make me sound lazy that I don’t want to connect my ereader with a chord to the computer just to download books, but if you read A LOT, trust me it makes a difference!
